  1. Hve you checked the torques on your dampers at the top? Is the rollover bar (if FIA) tight? also check that the rubbers on the antiroll bar drop links are intact. They can fail around the circumference and this can give rattles against the lever they're attached to. It's also possible for the dedion tube 'A' frame bush to move sideays so it's not central. Then the 'A' frame hits the tube instead of the bush but thios is a clonk not a rattle Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  2. I'm trying to tune my zetec by looking at the spark plug colour. I get a light rusty brown on the first two cylinders (one carb) and the other two plugs are actually as white as your teeth. What should the aim be? White or light brown? Please bear in mind that the wasted spark is likely to burn any excess mixture on subsequent strokes. Should I be using a different procedure to setting up a xflow? I.e. running until engine spin best and then richening by 1/4 - 1/2 turn? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs

The changee to the tube was in order to fit the new progressive spring which is longer than the previous spec item in order to allow three rates to be used along its length. the new damper is also a longer item so the lower mount has to be further away from the top mount. Why welded on? I expect it was the most cost effective option. you can't lower the whole dedion tube without it fouling the longitudinal members on the chassis. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  4. From what I've seenof the bike engined variety they're a quantumleap forward. ex Chairman roger managed to make everyone else look a bit silly around curborough in one recently. You can't believe how they'll dive into corners. Another bike engined caterham pulled up after trickling gently along the road that leads into Curborough and it seemed to have pussy cat manners. I think you'd need to drive one though - have you tried contactiong roger to see if he has any leads in that direction? It would be worth doing. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  5. Does anyone have any wisdom re: using race bilsteins on the road. What's the differnece in the dampers? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  6. Thanks for the responses. We charged it using a normal charger for 5 hours or so and we had life. Tim ill tell if it lives for very long. Annoying thing i that he has one of these chargers, he just doesn't have the time to use it! I've instructed him to connect it every time he leves the car now. Fingers crossed. Re: the red top 25, I don't know if that's the same batery as he has. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs

  9. Do you have any 96 spec RR dampers available? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  10. The ignition is mobilised by a seperate relay which you should be able to see somewhere close to the Vecta box - does this have it's own fuse on your car? Other than that is the key intact?
  11. I tried this when installing the new engine. forget it if you don't want loads of work and alot of mess. I gave up and disconnected it, rewiring the whole lot. I can't believe that the Vecta is actually dead. It really doesn't do much for a living. Have you checked you haven't got a loose wire? Careful with the key / socket as they don't do replacements at all. Consider a trailer to an agent. PS I found vecta thoroughly unhelpful. Have you tried contacting James W? 12. i HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAD A SIMILAR SOUNDING PROBLEM. It turned out to be that the links for antiroll bar at the rear had worn through the rubbers that surround each end. As such they knocked against themselves sometimes. Very cheap to fix though. Suggest if you have an a/roll bar at the rear, that you check this Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  13. My father has one on his Morgan and it seems to have no charge at the moment. It may have been flat for some time. Is this terminal (excuse the pun)? Does anyone know what the 750 stands for (it's a V8 could it be Amp hours? the battery is very small so it could be a gelpack version but I don't know enough about them. It has been trickle charged overnight but still has no go. What happens to them when you flat them? Do they lose charge more rapidly thAN STANDARD BATTERIES? PLEASE RESPOND TO L.MILLS@BTINTERNET.COM ONLY I'M AWAY FROM HOME! Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs Edited by - MILLSN on 22 Jul 2001 12:37:59
  14. Any thoughts on the top mount replacement issue anyone? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  15. answer is no they didn't. If you spend some dough on a nice cylinder head (no extra compression or revs) then you'll get it though. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  16. I used to find that when my XF carbs were out of balance I got huge flames from the exhaust - have you checked this? I always assumed I was just throwing in too much fuel on one cylinder. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  17. I've found a rule of thumb for all this - If your vibration at the front comes in at about 50-60 mph it's generally balancing. If it's coming in at 70-80 then it's generally tracking. As to the rear wheel balancing, you generally feel this as vibration through your seat. In a seven you won't feel it consciously but it'll be there making you tired on long runs all the same. When you get them balanced you notice that the vibration you didn't know was there has now gone! Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  18. I need to fit replacement damper top mounts to the latest dampers in order for them to fit my car (92 spec dedion). Can anyone confirm that this is possible? Both damper piston rods appear to be 11mm diameter so I hope the thread is the same on old and new dampers alike. Icannot fit the new damper direct without mods as the top mount bush is too wide for my chassis to accept. Can anyone confirm that thread sizes? Also - what spring rates do people run at the front in conjunction with the progressive rear end? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  19. Are Juno on the email? I'd like to speak to them about Leda valving. Has anyone used them - what do you think of their performance? Nigel Mills - xflow nay Zetec
  20. When a vehicle manufacturer builds a car they usually check for resonances so that they don't coincide with any of the engines natural frequencies. So most thi8ngs on a car, if they vibrate at all must do so at high frequencies. Unfortunately there is clearly somethiing within a 7 drivetrain that does vibrate at low frequency and this is excited by the engine at tickover. I'll bet that f you increase engine rpm it goes away as the engine is now vibrating at a different frequency. However, if you do this you can't hear the rattle over the engine noise. Bummer. Another option would be to discover what rattles and make it heavier so it didn't vibrate at the same frequency. You may be able to tun the noise out a bit by adjsting your tickover slightly if it's really that bad. Nigel Mills - xflow nay Zetec
