  1. I've an MBE ECU sending to my rev counter from a 94 ish car. There are 3 connections to the rev counter at the back of it. One is from the ECU, the other appear to be +ve and -ve. Question is, how doews the rev counter move, does it use the 12V from the car according to the output from the ECU? How should the ECU signal vary? Is it changing mA, Volts, mV or does the rev counter look for some other thing? Reason I ask is that mine winds round to 4500 before ceasing to register at all. Back off the revs and the rev counter springs bakc into life. As I don't understand what makes them work, Ive no idea why it's doing this. Anyone able to help? ☹️ Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. Up and running, still tweaking but it's great

  3. Can anyone tell me from which car are the front brakes on my 7 (above)? I fancy selling them. No seriously Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. Up and running, still tweaking but it's great
  4. Don't forget the noise - they sound so cool Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. Up and running, still tweaking but it's great
  5. Mine used to have one pipe going into the expansion (read 'catch' tank) and another going back out of it and discharging under the car. the one going back out was a vent pipe for the vapours. I didn't get much oil ever going intot he tank unless I overfilled the sump in the first place. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. (Just the fuel mixture to check now)
  6. Sure there's something in the archives about this somewhere but I got mine from James Whiting ages ago. He can probably source the required cap for you Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. (Just the fuel mixture to check now)
  7. If you're not too bothered about the cosmetic quality you can use hot melt glue. It may melt the foam locally but it will stick fine and is easy to apply with a gun, will set in seconds but don't get it on your hands as it hurts when hot Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. 8. Worth checking your battery posts are done up tight and that you have lots of earth routes for instuments, coil, HT leads are ok and plugs are correct type, gap and good condition too. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. (Just the fuel mixture to check now)
  9. Thanks for the suggestions - I've now succeeded. I wedged some pointy pliers along the inner circumference of the seal and levered the 'beggar' out. Refitting the new one explains why getting the old one out was so difficult. Don't think I could have got a scren into the seal from under the car. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  10. Still trying to get this thing out. It now closely resembles a lettuce. I don't understand how these are ever removed - mine seems to be glued to the gbox housing in some invisible way. The box is still in the car so access isn't great but it's not the main thing stopping me - the problem is the seal seems welded in. 1) Has anyone ever had this problem? Box is by SPC if that sheds any light. 2) Are you supposed to remove the speedo driveshaft before trying to remove the seal? It's the only way I can imagine I'll get sufficient leverage to get the seal out. ☹️ Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  11. I do have the James Whiting coolant rail which passes over the exhaust. I have lagged the exhausts with insulating stuff and that has reduced the extremes of temp that the engine reaches, it did used to affect things. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  12. I would consider your waving needle to be a poor earth. You will need at least two earths to your engine block from the chassis. One will not cut it. I had the same problem ages ago. You may find that your temp reading falls after you earth the engine properly. Try switching on your lights and see if it makes a difference to the temp reading (it shouldn't). Bear in mind the block wants earthing not the engine mount. My own temp still reads high (85 ish I think) but I still think there's air in the system and it's a stable reading. It does show hotter briefly when you floor it but about 30 secs later when the water has started to circulate faster it seems to cool off. To bleed the air the engine needs running at high tickover 2K rpm for a few minutes with the front of the car high in the air. Keep an eye on the header tank (if you have one installed) as the fluid seems to disappear into middle earth intermittently (hence I suspect mine's still not bled fully) but check yours for the same thing. Lastly, bear in mind where in the system you're recording the engine temp - it's directly out of the cylinder head (uncooled) so its going to appear hotter than the XF did. I still haven't done this but I reckon a temp sender to measure the exit temp from the radiator would be confirm the above. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  13. Thanks Bill, I'll give them a try Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  14. It's a guess but it may be that the pump is unable to give the flow the engine needs when the engine is running slowly (idle) where it can do when the engine runs fast. You may have a blockage in the system somewhere or you may have a dodgy pump. Maybe there's some way you can check the flow rate. Question any mods you've made to the system - could there be a restriction somewhere? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  15. I've use d Caterham K series fuel filter and need to connect it to my 8mm I/D injection hose. Caterham have supplied me witht the O ring and adaptor (male into the filter and 14mm female out of it). Where do I get a hosetail fitting with suitable end (i.e. M14 plus some sort of suitable sealing mechanism - O ring or something) for the Caterham fitting? Someone out there must have done the same thing?? My local and not so local dealers can't help. demon tweeks can't help, can someone? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  16. Could be that your fuel pipe is narrowing somewhere causing a restriction in fuelling when the flow is upped - do you have a soft fuel line anywhere? Diesels have suffered this on other cars - daft suggestion I knw but you never know. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  17. If you could weld rubber I'd suspect mine's welded in. Having no luck with either method -seal looks a sorry state. I want it out to replace it with a new one for leaks. The seal appears dished when you look at it for some reason - I suspect that's the reason for my troubles Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
  18. Anyone shed any light. The circlip is off, the drive itself is away and I'm left with a round pin which has a square key inside it and is surrounded by the speedo drive seal. Do I need to get the pin out to remove the seal? Will the seal come out on it's own - how do you get any purchase on the thing? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd

  21. Good chance the foam will not help you as it's best at dealing with frequencies above 1KHz i.e. high pitched stuff. The O grade is a fireresistance spec and is very high but the film on the front of it doesn't meet the same spec so I would be wary of that. The film also deteriorates the sound deadening qualities of the foam so best off all round without it. Additionally grade O if the black stuff is very heavy although there is some lighter stuff out there it is even less efficient at tdealing with low frequency noise but better at high. You need one of them airbox thingies Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd

  25. Just bought one of these from Caterham but didn't give much thought to connecting it to rubber fuel hose. 1) Where do you go to get suitable hose connectors 2) Where does this item fit in a K series car? 3) Is there a special bracket? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs soon to be EFi'd
