Lots of nonsense being printed abouts zetecs and ital axles... You can have zetecs in dedion cars too! Love mine personally. Key thing here is how much cash you want to throw at your car, how many miles you plan to do. Also, if you want to tinker. Also, how fast you might want your car to become and what your likely budget would be to achieve that pace! I had a crossflow and liked it but wanted to be able to upgrade power past 160 brake without mad expense. I think K series are lovely things if you can find one in your budget and vauzhalls are cheap, very quick and tuneable if that's your bag. I personally think the latest car you can buy -the better. Ordered some of this by mistake. I should have ordered the rust prevention paint - equally dopey buyers take note. However, has anyone used the chassis paint and got any feedback as to their experiences with it. Why would you coat the rust prevent paint with it as suggested on their blurb? Thanks Bob, I have to say I can't consider >£1K filthy cheap. Cheap maybe.. No the 106xsi got a 1.6 somewhere down the line which I think is where it got slower when it received the cat too. So I'll be aiming for a 92-94 car which was crazy fun. Fro under a grand I hope I can't go too far wrong.

Anyone know what to look for that's specific to the car?

pretty sure my tickover is 950 rpm Phil. I would imagine with your barn door ports that yours might need to run faster. Battery is fully charged is it?

Most I know ran regulators between carbs and fuel line to avoid this problem. Would recommend you do the same

Just a thought, Idid have a similar problem once. One of the wires that feeds the coil had come loose within the plug that connects to the coil itself. Give your wires a rattle, if they fall out you'll know.

Might be worth looking at the exact positions of your progression holes relative to another zetec engined car. My old carbs had four holes but clearly needed five as is general wisdom. With four the car still had an annoying cough as I opened the throttles so I eventually stumped for TBs. If you have 3 holes it probably isn't sufficient and I imagine you'll be running rich to cover the poor progression. Seems odd though that you can't manage the mixture by feeling for the revs changing.

I know you said on a budget but when I had my head done (big valve and ported) it just transformed the car. You assume actually use the car. Fool! When I get a filler cap, sender and suitable throttle return spring it might once again become a reality. Warning -thread hijack. My rev counter has no reason to have played up. I've onl;y changed the ECU, not the ignition system yet it conks out at 4500. Why would it read correctky up until then and only then fail to count where it previously ran fine. I dont understand. Second question: Where do I get an oscilloscope from to check the ECU output? Essentially I've changed the ECU so where previously I used a Dunnell one which drove it without trouble I'm now on MBE. The counter now conks out at anything above 4500 rpm. I can't believe the ECU is at fault - why should EFI adversely affect the rev counter? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec TB's. Got some cams coming soon...
