My supersprint used to run to be right foot limited to 6000rpm but it would want to go past that if allowed. It's do 6500 when I allowed it. Cams were std supersprint (234 I think).
I would think that yours should run to 6K readily, if not it's probably not feeling well.
I recall seeing a programme on tyres where some old guy kept special tyres downstairs in the dark until they had reached a proper age and then, and only then, they were (some of them) ready for use on The Tour. Couldn't figure out if it was phooey or if there was really something in it
This may suprise you but I wrote to K&N (who BTW have a position that their filters should last the life of your car) and they sent me a new set of what I would call front plates. I was able to reference the exact date and transaction where I bought them though. Could be worth a try.

Be sure that your tyre itself (especially if it has kevlar reinforcement) has no protruberances. Once punctured they have a nasty habit of leaving a lovely little invisible piece of kevlar sticking out ready for just a few miles after you've replaced the inner tube. You'll only find out by running your finger (gently) round the inside of the tube itself - take care
If you're using a lambda sensor at the collector do you need to seal. I've always been told not to seal after I took the car to James Whitings's to seperate the collector from the manifold (it was pretty much jammed on with exhaust sealant) but I am concerned that pulling in air though an unsealed joint would invalidate the results somewhat
I recall this not being totally straightforward but the usual "wiggling for all the world" did the trick. I think my suspension was holding the shaft out from where it needed to be though. Have you tried putting a jack under the suspension to alter the angle of approach?
er, thanks. That seems to clear up some of the question. What are earth loops? My lambda sensor has wlin and NBdim outputs one being narrow band, how do I tell the MBE what it is looking at? Whilst I have all the right software it is really short on instructions esp for the inexperienced!
I was hoping to use the data logging feature to update the map after a drive. The car has been mapped once but recent changes have altered the fuelling required and I want to be safe before my next drive down for a remap.

I have a MBE 967E ECU. It can receive a lamda signal but I'm not sure how to connect the lambda sensor to it. It has a signal and a ground but I don't know whether to send it wide narrow band signal from by box. Can anyone advise what it will accept?

If you can buy an in line battery disconnect you can fit a varley and forget. My car has always drained down it' sbatteries and the gel battery I have now is no exception. I have no doubts that if I disconnected it it would be fine for ages. Mine is always on trickle charge
Shameless bump but:
I did forget to mention that the Bilsteins have adjustable platforms on them.
The Ledas platforms are adjustable but integral to the damper
Is your throttle cable itself old/worn? does it glide smoothly in and out. If the outer sheath is damaged it can hang somewhat. The other thing to consider is if you still have the original black yoke that hangs from the carbs to hold the carb end of the cable outer. This can get loose and wobble giving all kinds of strangeness. If so, bolts need removing, degreasing and putting back in on loctite

Oooh you've started something here...every man and his dog will be along! I'm no hill climber so feel free to take this with a pinch of salt. Every time I've done a trackday I've gonie out and enjoyed myself first, then half way through the day taken some instruction. It is always a revelation what extra speed I can carry once I'm using the right lines. If I were you I wouldn't be trying to carry more speed just yet. Seems to me you could spend time getting the lines right at a safer speed with passenger instruction wherever possible. Then you can add the aggression referred to above. One key thing I have picked up along the way is that your tyres have the most grip just as you enter the corner, this means that on turn-in you can afford to turn the wheel far faster than you could otherwise expect. to make the most of this you need to be wide on entry to the corner. All the other stuff seems to follow from getting this right which starts with the best lines.
If the original car you propose to buy had a crossflow it will not need to pass any different test if you replace the engine with a zetec. You retain the same smoke test only criteria. That's what most people on here did when they replaced their XF.
On another note it would be worth costing up moving to a Duratec which offer far more options once you get tuning it. There are on costs but I suspect they're quite minor really in the scheme of things
