Complete waste of time using your own or a borrowed noise meter unless you want to use it to compare against the one used by MSV as a relative reading for keeping a check on the drop off in silencer performance over time. Test readings will vary depending on how close the gadget is held to the exhaust exit, angle of incidence to the exit. My Blackbird passed fine last year and I think the levels are the same. Nick

Andrew Walkers old car. About £400-700 for an engine off Ebay, pump rebuild/replacement £300-400, few hours to fit, result lovely car. Wish I had the money and the time at the moment. Absolute bargain if you ask me. Nick

Adam Camber -1.5 degrees, about 1.5 to 2mm of toe in either side so 3-4 mm total toe should be ok for road use although you can go more camber if you like and less toe but it may tramline a bit. Back end is only adjustable with different ears or shims/milled. Nick

Myles I am fairly sure you have the later Blackbird wiring loom and ECU with the lambda and cat in the exhaust( if standard factory Westfiled can fitted). This means you do not need to do anything on your car. My car has a 2001 loom which does not have the lambda and therefore to run a cat I need to lean off the fueling for emissions. I could go down the route of getting a later ECU and loom which was fitted after 2002, but this would be a winter project. Nick

Picked up a 2nd hand PC3 off Ebay and wondered if anyone has one on their Injected Blackbird and if so have they any maps I can try? Eventually I would like to get the car on a rolling road but would be interested in a map that someone has run with success. At the moment the car runs rich when connected to an MOT emissions tester which I would like to look at. Nick

Like most things it will get sorted eventually, and then you will hopefully have most of the summer to enjoy it. Lesson learnt, don't buy a kit from Caterham, but you have probably already decided that anyway. Sad that Caterham is operating in this way It seems that all the independent Seven places are picking up plenty of work as they all seem to offer the service Caterham can't. Had a fantastic morning at Boss Racing with lots of other 7 owners, brilliant service, loads of knowledge and detailed expertise. Once you have got the car up and running then there is a great deal of choice in the south and really once out of warranty you should never need to deal with them again: Boss Racing Automotive Engineering Redline Atree Autos PGM James Whiting Tech 7 Ratrace To name a few. Please don't ask for your money back, you deserve this great car, although Caterham do not deserve any more of your custom. Nick

Sounds like the thermostat is not right and the radiator is too big. Was talking to a fellow Blackbird owner once who had a standard Caterham rad fitted vs my bike one and his engine was running at very low temperatures to mine. On the blackbird the radiator fan cuts in at 105 degrees which always seemed a bit high to me so I now have it cutting in at 90 degrees, and car water temp normally sits around 80-85 degrees. Nick

Surely if you want a refined touring 7 you might as well buy an Roadsport or a lower powered superlight? I would have thought a sequential gearbox on a R500 would be fantastic. Yes it is noisy but that is what a car like this will be, wear some earplugs. I have seen some videos of Nigel Pugh driving his R500 and he might as well be driving an R300 and I am not criticising his driving only pointing out that he could go just as quick if not quicker in a lower powered seven, so not sure he would be the best one to ask about the merits of a sequential gearbox. If you want a quick seven then buy a H pattern car, any will do upwards of a R300/Supersport, but of you want a balls out car then an R500 with a sequential would IMHO be the answer. A previously said going down the box at a junction is not a problem and can easily be done at standstill. It takes a while to get used to a sequential box but once mastered they are brilliant on road or track. I always wear earplugs to suppress the clonking and whining. Nick

Matthew That is what I might do, but just wanted confirmation that is is possible from someone who has done it, before I commit to drill a 'kin great hole in my floor. Other thing is will it have room next to the floor to bolt to the chassis? Nick

Have just acquired an older style SIB that bolts under the floor into the knee chassis rail and up by the roll bar. Has anyone fitted one to a lowered floor car? If I were to fit it I would probably need to drill through the side of the lowered floor and pass the bar through and then attach it to the chassis. Will my plan work? Seems like Myles asked a similar question 9 years ago but there were no replies. here Nick
