  1. That popper tool looks great £179.99 UK price $139 US price(£86 at current exchange rates) Would be a good tool for each area to have that could be temporary loaned out when you need to refix a popper. Nick
  2. Clive I have split the crankcase on my Blackbird and contrary to the manual the head does not have to come off but to get the timing chain off you need to remove the camshafts. I removed the clutch, clutch basket and a few other bits and then undone all the bolts to eventually split the two haves. Have you thought of getting a second hand engine off Ebay and fixing the one in the car in slow time? Expensive but cheaper than fixing a K series. Don't forget that gasket sets and other spares can set you back a decent amount anyway. Nick Nick
  3. Ian I think this is OK. The AP Suretrac is a bit strange in its operation. I can check how mine is at the weekend although I am sure someone more knowledgable than me will be along to explain it fully. Nick

    Avon CR500

I have siad this before, why have Caterham not got any in stock and Avon have loads? Seeing as they are supposed to be manufactured for Caterham exclusively and their manufacturer has them in stock it does seem odd to me? Nick
  9. Gary I always used Gary May and like you will be looking for a new place to have my car set up. I think that if you are going to use it to Race or are a serious track day driver then Andy Jupp at PGM sounds like a good bet. I spoke to him at The Plough and he sounds like he has a very good pedigree with Caterham and some race teams, he also seems like a very nice chap. I can thoroughly recommend Richard as well, and I believe he has all the equipment to set up the car as well, would be interested on how you get on with whoever you choose. Nick

    diff noisy

As others have said the diff is going to be noisy compared to what you may have been used to but they are not always set up as well as could be. Road & Race Transmissions are good for sorting out the noisy ones although I would just get an aeroscreen and wear ear plugs and you won't even notice it after a while and plan to remove it next winter for a set up by R&R. WRT your fuel question I would say if you are giving the car beans most of the time then use 97 but if you are touring then 95 should be OK with the occasional tank of 97. Nick
  11. Laurence Any time just blatmail me and we can arrange a weekend you can come up. It would be ideal at the moment because it is up on stands so easy to get to everything. I probably have a spare pulse rotor or two lying round I will check. Nick
  12. Laurence Not sure how accurate i needs to be but if you need to borrow a standard cover with the timing hole cap then let me know and you can borrow it. When I was stripping down my spare engine I thought the marks are not all that accurate from what I remember, although it was some time ago. If you need either a Haynes manual or Honda Manual I have both. Nick
  13. Why bother with carbon when you are going to stick on heavy 16" wheels?
  14. £252.36 😳 Caterham charge £93.50 +vat per tyre =£224.40 for two. Think I will wait and save nearly £28 on postage.
  15. Ok, the other supplier in Dartford. Nick
  16. As the only supplier of Avon CR500s have none in stock after I drove there today , I am after two fairly new( Nick

    Wet Sump

This one any good? here I regularly travel to and from Hants/Kent if you need a GONADS. Nick
  18. Both the Caterham tillers, Kevlar and composite are not FIA approved but Tillet do other seats that are. Look on their website for details - Google it. Not sure if MOG Racing do an FIA homologated seat? Nick
  19. One of my front indicator pods has failed so I thought I might replace them with a pair of carbon ones(tart - I know 😬) so on the off chance that someone might have some lying in the back of the garage please contact me if you do. Nick
  20. I strip both wires back about 10mm to be joined, push some heat shrink on one wire, twist them together and then solder, trim if necessary and then pull over the heat shrink and shrink it onto the joined wires. Nothing wrong in using solder if correctly done and supported by heat shrink. If you are joining together lots of wires in a loom then it is best to stagger the joins so they do not all end up in the same place. Nick
  21. It will be the ignition warning wire from the alternator to the ignition warning light. Nick
  22. 3.14 in mine. Apparently ford fitted them to a diesel Sierra briefly so they are fairly rare. Nick
  23. Insurance companies usually require a Cat 1 or 2 immobilisers to be installed by a registered installer to make sure they are wired correctly. I think your immobiliser is required to have a permanent live if installed as per manufacturers instructions. As it was not installed by a registered installer(VSIB?), but DIY I do not think it really matters, in fact I would bin it as you have no power in your garage to make it viable and go for some hidden switches on the fuel pump feed/ignition circuit, or just remove the relay you are installing for the fuel pump when you leave the car. Nick
  24. Martin Sounds like you might have been talking to Alex "Wight Skipper" about his lovely new car. Nice day for a trackday Nick
  25. I rang Stack today as my dash is 11 years old and I do not think it has had a new battery sinc new, oh and it mists up as well ☹️. The guy I spoke to was not very sure what I would be charged for the battery replacement and new seals but after some pressure he indicated a price of around £150 -£200 Now just need to save up and remove it from the car. Suppose its scuttel off time again Nick
