I am in the process of trying buy some new dampers and springs for the Blackbird and am struggling to understand certain aspects of what I need.
Currently my car is on Bilstein M0 dampers which seem good in the dry but no very complient over bumping roads and too stiff in the wet. I would like to try some adjustable alloy bodied dampers around the Nitron R1, quantum price point, I think Ohlins are too expensive and talking to a Koni dealer they would need to custom make them which again is tto expensive.
Just a few questions someone may be able to help me with:
I notice some pictures of Nitrons come with helper/tender springs on the rear shocks, are these for progressive damping or just to keep the main spring tight? Nitron reckon they are not needed?
Nitron say they do 3 valving options, light road, fast road and track and them recommend light road for me as it is a BEC and I do occasional track days. Anyone have experience of the valving.
I did speak to some one who said they always run with their Nitrons fully wound off on the road and about 6 clicks on track out of a possible 24 click range, this does not seem right to me as only part of the damper range is used, anyone comment?
Eibach springs or standard Nitron springs? Is it just a weight saving?
Spring rates for my car, talking to Nitron they recommend 225 front, 140 rear which seem a bit stiff for such a light car(460kg), does this seem OK, or do I need a bit lighter? Subjective I know.
Meteor Motorsport Nitrons are £200 more than direct from Nitron, are they worth the extra? Meteor = £1195 + vat vs Nitron = £995 + vat.
How much does it cost to have the Nitrons revalved? Serviced?
I have looked at Quantum and they look good and are DIY revalvable, anyone have experience of this and does it work in reality?
Any help, experience would be much appreciated.
