  1. I have successfully used a T cut and Wood Silk to bring mine back after Le Mans. You do need to give the T cut some elbow grease though. Nick

    Castor/Camber

Nick I am putting my suspension back together at the moment and am wondering what to set the castor to. The build manual says 2-2-2 left to right i.e. 2 washers between the rear of the front wishbone bush and front chassis, 2 between the rear chassis and front of the rear wishbone bush and two washers between the rear of the rear wishbone bush and the chassis plate. However on my car which is a BEC(Blackbird) I had 3-1-3, I assume because it is light on the front end and moving the wishbone forward gives more positive castor and therefore better steering weight and self centreing? I may just stick with this, not sure. So I assume this is how it goes: 0-4-0 Max negative castor wide track Caterham recommended ? 1-3-1 Half way house 2-2-2 Build manual, narrow track Caterham recommended? 3-1-3 Lightweight front end(BEC) for more steering feel, self centring. 4-0-4 Extreme positive castor. Nick
  3. Can you send photos to my Blatmail address please. Is it a Freestyle one or Meteor one? Nick
  4. Caterham CR500 in 15" are 195 45 15 for S3 cars and there are wider ones for the wide CSR rears, 245 I think Nick
  5. It's a fair cop I retract that statement, very dishonest. Sorry
  6. Pete If the battery is reading 0 volts then I would say it is knackered. Try returning it as faulty to the supplier. Did you say you have restarted the car since this episode? If so then everything should be ok? I would have thought the immobiliser may have been cooked but if you have started it then no worries. Nick
  7. Ian I have already lost a stone since New Year! Should have bought a pair of new ones last year when one disintegrated when reassembling, but bought a replacement and now the other one has fallen apart:-( . Carbon ones will at least be strong but £70 for a pair ain't cheap. Nick

    Check oil levels

I have overfilled my dry sump and it can have consequences, tank fills up and then oil started being thrown into the airbox. Normally as said you need space so best thing is to run it up to temperature with bonnet off, switch off and immediately check the level before all the oil leaves the tank into the sump pan/engine, this will give you an indication of how much oil is in the tank while it is running. I think on a K series it was about 9", not sure if a duratec would be about the same 🤔 Nick
  9. Anyone got a couple lying round in their garage they want to sell to me cheap *wink*ish Nick
  10. Laurence Perfect for me, count me in as a definate. Nick
  11. The significant difference with the Hi Spec brakes is the unsprung weight saving over the standard calipers. The Hi Spec ones are 0.9Kg each. Had no issues with mine on standard solid 232mm disks. I do have the upgraded master cylinder though. Nick
  12. Lemo connectors are really good quality but you'll need deep pockets. Nick
  13. Looking forward to the article Nick
  14. Laurence Good to hear you are nearly there on the rebuild Regarding shock rebuilding, revalving etc, are your Quantum shocks very similar to the Nitrons, infact would they use the same shims or are they completely different? It would be really good to look at different shocks on a dyno and dispell a few myths by revalving/shimming them. As I understand it from talking to you when you popped round you can set a shock up to what ever bump/rebound curve you want if you have the right shims. Would love to see a demo of this process. Nick
  15. Laurence Good thanks. Ended up getting some second hand Nitrons and am in the process of getting the suspension re powdercoated, rebushed and ready to go back on the car. How's the rebuild going, must be nearly there now? Nick
  16. There are some clever people. Nick
  17. Chris This is the video for the Quantum Shock revalving Ride Tech website is quite interesting. here Nick
  18. Chris I would be very interested in seeing this and getting more info on shims required to change the damping characteristics. It may well dispell some of the myths of how these shocks can be customised. I have seen a video of the Quantum shocks being revalved and it looked fairly straight forward. Not sure how you would know what you have achieved without putting them on a shock dyno though, apart from just fitting them and driving the car? Could be a time consuming exercise. 1 vote from me anyway. Nick
  19. Gary Order from Shaw Motorsport ABWT10, £49.26 for 2 delivered including VAT. Nick

  21. We have had a sealed pressurised system for the last 5 years and that seems to have sorted out the airlocks. Nick
  22. Why oh why do plumbers not fit isolation valves either side of central heating 2/3 way valves? Nick
