  1. Bizarre. I'll keep an eye on it. Mike
  2. > I've got a drain plug fitted into my blue plate Snap! Much less hassle. I also baulked mightily at paying 4ukp a pop for the O-ring... although I'm told they're much cheaper now. Mike
  3. Have our profiles been restored from an old backup recently? Someone just pointed out to me that the profile attached to my recent postings contain an old email address. A posting I made on 8 Feb this year does have my current email address in the profile, but on editing my profile today I found it contains an old one. I've re-updated it. Mike
  4. "They told me that standard Rover parts don't even try and fire for the first 4 rotations to allow it to build up some momentum" - that's BS, stock Ks start almost instantaneously, more quickly than anything else I've experienced. Mike
  5. Couldn't find any starter motors at www.birse.co.uk, they've got some nice big cranes though. Try www.brise.co.uk.
  6. With regard to the engine "jamming to a stop", how much start advance have you got dialled in to the MBE? Too much cranking advance (or whatever it's called in the MBE system) can cause this - it can also break the starter motor. Mike
  7. Steve, I run 6.5x15in fronts with 205x50s on them, they don't foul the stock 13/14" wingstays. I guess your wheels don't have the 'right' offset, where the definition of 'right' in this case is 'the same as the Prisoner wheels'? Mike
  8. Well you'd be a bit pissed off if you had to pay for it... Mike Edited by - Mike Bees on 8 Feb 2002 12:47:58
  9. Maybe we could persuade Karl to wrap the cases in fake stick-on carbon-fibre-lookalike wink.gif Mike
  10. AFAIK Johnty the R500 clutch is the same AP one that's fitted to the SLRs and some Superlights. Just 'phone Caterham parts dept. and ask for an AP clutch for a K. Last time I spoke to them they said they R500 flywheel wouldn't go on any other K, I suspect that's not entirely true although I do remember hearing that there were starter motor compatibility issues with the R500 flywheel. Mike
  11. Micheldever Tyres, Winchester or Newdigate Tyres somewhere in Surrey - sorry, don't have their numbers to hand. Both will buff. Mike
  12. My original starter motor got decidedly tired - it was OK when then engine was hot, but struggled to turn it over at low temperatures. Initially I thought it was the battery, but putting in a 40quid exchange starter motor had it whizzing over like it hadn't for a couple of years. Mike
  13. I boil the fluid (AP600) in my std rears in 10 minutes at Lydden. Mick Smith made some DIY ducting for his rear brakes - he emailed me the pictures but I can't find them now. Mike
  14. QED? Or Performance Parts @ MG Sport+Racing Ltd (you need to be registered as a competitor - try 0121 475 6217)? Mike
  15. My part numbers were from an old MGF parts list micorfiche printout, so maybe they've been superseded. The EVO engine uses a stronger-than-standard cast crank, as do the SLR race cars these days I suspect. I think it's described on the PTP website. Mike
  16. Grade A: LCJ 100170 200 Grade B: LCJ 100170 100 Mike
  17. Swap your axle stands for these old housebricks I've got? This really isn't getting Richard anywhere, but at least it's keeping his ad at the top of the list... Mike
  18. Boats & their spars are made from pre-preg these days, and they do get repaired to be as strong or stronger than the original, so it is possible. Either way one wouldn't expect a Caterham nosecone to be under too much stress. Mike
  19. Arnie - if the blues did come from a Vx injection then it must have had a different ECU/map, otherwise it would have been so over-fuelled it would be lucky to run at all. Maybe they came from a turbo? No references to 743s here. If they're cream-topped like the 744s and 749s then it could be the same as those. Mike
  20. Achieving an invisible repair is going to be nigh-on impossible if it's unpainted. If you use the right resin then getting a strong repair isn't an issue, plenty of carbon fibre boats & masts get repaired - they're too expensive to scrap. Mike
  21. I have: 0 280 150 427 437 cc/min Blue 92bhp per cylinder (43 lbs per hour) These as 'Cosworth blues'. I assume the rate quoted is at 3 bar. They're low impedance. The 744s are standard Vx 16v fit, also the same as the 749s (apart from the number...) fitted to 1.6/1.8Ks. They're high impedance. Mike
  22. You can mod the 1.4 but the 1.6 is a much better bet. OTOH the 6-speed 'box is a must! Tricky decision. Cheapest option is probably to swap the 1.4 for a 1.6, especially if you're going to tweak it. That way you can acquire a scrappy 1.6 and work on it whilst still using the car. Shame about the flared wings though. Mike
  23. Yup, mine was the DIY job in an earlier issue. We got very good results with a 4-2-1 with ~25" primaries (a bit short IMO) and 12" secondaries. Mike
  24. Oh well, you were right to start with then smile.gif I've never heard of a failure of that seal before. Mike
