  1. Mike, you can flatten the radius arms a little, thats what I did when I had the same problem several years ago. It didn't cause any problems, but do it carefully.
  2. When do you need them? I have virtually all of those but can't make them available for a week or so.
  3. Why not get quaife to fit it? Thats what I did, and frankly, the further away you are the more important it is to make sure it's correct first time. I live in Dubai and did not want to chance having to send it back to uk if it wasn't right. Better to pay the carriage cost up front and not take the risk.
  4. I have the Hi Spec ultralites on the front of my car, but with 280MM discs. I believe I was one of the first Caterham owners to fit them, it did take a bit of messing to get the fitment right. They have been superb, very powerfull braking. I can't lock the rears before the fronts and have had no soft pedal issues with the standard master cylinder. What size pistons are in the calipers? I recall there was a choice, and that may have some bearing on the issue.
  5. Neil, is it collectable from your house? I could get it and take it into the repair shop if you want to be sure of making the trackday on Friday. Mike.
  6. Neil, I can get it checked for you if you like. We use several local auto electrical repair shops for our deisel engines. Mike.
  7. Nifty, I have them on the front of my car with 280MM solid discs. Fantastic brakes, and the service was not bad. Am also going to use them on the new car.
  8. I agree Peter, and you'd better be sure it's the right thread! Once there was a man with a corckscrew ***K who travelled the world from pole to pole to find a girl with a corckscrew hole When he found her he dropped down dead Because she had a left hand thread!
  9. Dave, I have a Quaife ATB in my 225HP car, and it works really well for me on fast road work and trackdays. From previous posts I recall that there is an issue regarding serious racing use where if a rear wheel lifts, say on the apex of a corner, and youve got some power on, then damage can result when it hits the track again. Since you suggest that you will only be doing trackdays it's probably not an issue. One more thing, the Quaife is fit and forget, plate types I beleive may need adjustment/set up now and then, mind you I'm no expert, I'm sure more knowledgeable blatchatters will be along later with more definitive info.
  10. RST is 330-340HP in 2 litre guise. 2.4 litre is 400HP.
  11. RST is 330-340HP in 2 litre guise. 2.4 litre is 400HP.
  12. I have been towing for many years, and with much heavier trailers than we are talking about here. 1. Single axle trailers tow much better than twin axle. 2. It's twin axle trailers that get the "snakes". I've ben thrown frown from hard shoulder to fast lane and back again quite a few times (very scary) but never with a single axle. This phenomenem is very speed sensitive, it always seems to happen at the same speed with the same trailer, and it differs trailer to trailer, even if they are identical. Where you are loading something onto a trailer, as in this case it is VITAL to get the nose weight right, this is a critical safety factor. Re different manufacturers, We are going to be buying PRG for our equipment to be sold in Europe. Very good quality, and decent people to deal with. Don't know the other crew so can't comment. Having said that, occasional towing with a seven on board is hardly a heavy duty task, so both should be fine.
  13. I've got the Hi Spec 4 pot ultralites with a 280MM grooved solid disc mounted on an aluminium bell centre. Very powerfull, very controlable braking, and 1KG lighter than the standard solid disc set up. Fits under 13" rims. Strongly recommended.
  14. You could fit a dual oil pressure/oil temp capillary tube guage in lieu of your existing guage. Real time read out, and more reliable than an electrical guage.
  15. I run 250 lb fronts and 200lb rears. This combination works well provided you are prepared to experiment a bit with front/rear rake, 9assuming adjustable platforms)and tweaking the adjustment till it feels right. Better still get it set up proffessionally. I did try 300 lb fronts but these were too stiff. Good luck, Mike.
  16. The quaife unit will handle that power no problem. I've had one in my 225HP car for 7 years. No probs yet.
  17. Not exactly private peter, they are public roads, but many of them are often almost devoid of traffic. No AA or RAC here, private recovery companies only. Never used them from the desert but did have to "hitch a ride" from my first trackday after a wire broke inside the starter motor. Other than taht the car's never let me down.
  18. Peter, 3.92 diff, Quaife six speed sequential with the highest available six gear ratio. Don't have my gearing figures here at the moment, but thats moving a bit. Yes, we can run like that here, not legal, but nobody cares. There are speed traps close to cities, but through the desert its a free for all. One time while doing this along with some bikers, my altenator fan split in two, one piece fracturing the nosecone, and the other going out through the sideskin.
  19. I have this tank on my 225HP VX and have run the car in this form for several years now including long hard motorway type driving at 7000 rpm +, sprint type driving, and recently two trackdays on the new circuit here, the last one being five X 20 minute sessions. No problems, no high oil temps, 90C max. I do have a cooler, but also remember that ambient is relatively high here in Dubai.
  20. Try opening all of the connections that feed signals to, or from the ECU, including the main one in the back of the ECU, and cleaning them with electrical contact cleaner. Apparently they can develop a bad contact over time, even if they are not dirty. This cured a misfire on my VX. Could also be the coil or ECU, or plugs, leads.
  21. I have the high spec 4 pots but with 280mm solid discs with aluminium bells, and they fit under 13' rims. 1KG lighter than the standard set up, monster braking power, and more controlable due to the big disc diameter. I found Hi spec to be very helpfull, and they gave me an excellent service.
  22. I'm going to buy a new Caterham soon, and would very much apreciate some advice as follows. Given that a (very) powerfull motor will be used, I need to decide between the following chassis options. Standard chassis, but fitted with SV De dion tube and Freestyle SV width front suspension. Or, SV chassis with freestyle front suspension. Which will handle best? Is the extra length of the SV chassis desirable or advised given that the car will be SV track? Are Caterham selling the CSR chassis yet. (without motor) And does anybody have any opinions on how it compares with the de dion chassis? Anybody driven it yet? Thanks, Mike.
  23. A VX at this power level should be reliable, and not need any "special attention". The mileage is not high, and the VX is a very robust engine. The normal checks should be made, chassis corrosion etc. The price does seem high, despite the fact that someone has clearly spent a lot of money on the car.
  24. Ford now have a concentric slave cylinder. Raceline are using it, so you could get it from them.
