  1. No, but Redline in Caterham supplied one to me a couple of months ago - might be worth a try? Michael.
  2. Hi Steve, How is the manufacturing coming along - I'm looking forward to the news... Michael.
  3. Thanks Chris - that makes a lot of sense and may help explain part of why my car tends towards understeer. Does anyone have any recommendations towards good books on suspension theory that I could use to learn more of the basics? Thanks - Michael.
  4. I am keen to revise the suspension on my 1991 De Dion Crossflow to improve turn-in, with at minimum new springs and dampers, upper wishbones and front ARB. However, my car has never had a rear ARB fitted and I’m trying to understand what benefits adding one would bring. I understand that fitting a rear ARB would increase the overall chassis roll resistance, but can someone please explain the benefits of doing this via ARBs front and back rather than relying at one end only. Thanks!
  5. OOps- double post. MC Edited by - mcalvert on 4 Jul 2003 15:19:50
  6. Myles - It's EP90 oil, and you fill it up until it spills out of the filler hole (not very scientific, and rather messy, but there you go). I went to a tool shop and bought a metal plunger type thing that you can use to squirt oil up a tube which goes through the filler hole which was a great investment for a tenner. regards - Michael.
  7. CALVERT ❗ I SAW THAT. IN MY OFFICE AFTER CLASS.

  9. Mocal make nice annodised ones. Alternatively, I seem to remember seeing some very similar ones but cheaper at Autocross, London Rd Bracknell which isn't a million miles from you... Michael.

    Uprights

Thanks for that - can you get them from standard motor-factors with the right thread? Thanks - Michael.

    Uprights

Based on this, I went out at the weekend to buy a decent grease gun as the cheap one which I had previously never seemed to have much luck at getting oil into the trunnion grease nipple. Guess what, the new gun has the same problem - so what am I doing wrong? Is it that the fitting is wrong? The gun doesn not "snap" onto the nipple - should it? All I seem to get is oil on the floor. I have taken the nipple off and the spring valve thingy does push in OK... Advice please! Thanks - Michael.

    Gearbox Oil

Thanks. Can someone confirm that the gearbox (and the diff) should just be filled until they overflow? I'm noty going to cause any problems with the a frame bush getting oily if I fill the diff to the max am I? Thanks - Michael.

    Gearbox Oil

I have been trying to find EP80 oil to top up the gearbox, but the two motor factors I have been to only have combined EP 80-90 oil. Can I safely use this, or should I be looking for the "Real thing"? Thanks - Michael.
  15. Vulcan Engineering did a great job of rebuilding my worn Xflow into a 155bhp engine which I am now delighted with (http://www.vulcanengines.com/). Definitely worth having a word with them. Regards, Michael.
  16. I know that it's not exactly just down the road, but Vulcan Engineering Uxbridge Road, London, W7 supply the stuff. Regards, Michael.

    Dampers

Thanks - looks like a session with the "gentle adjustment tool" is called for tonight! MC
  18. 3D ignition without a doubt. Makes an amazing difference and also starts to pay for itself in lower fuel bills when cruising. MC

    Dampers

This is probably an old chetnut, but without the search facility, I'd appreciate your advice. I'm looking to replace my rather shot adjustable Spax dampers on my 1991 De Dion Xflow. What are the relative merits of the different options such as Leda/Spax etc etc please? Also, in the meantime I need to temporarily increase the ride hight of the car before Le Mans. Unfortunately, I don't have the proper C spanners and the collars look pretty rusty. Is there any trick to sdjusting them without the proper tool, or is it not worth trying? Is there anyone in the Berks/Bucks area who has a spanner they could nend me? Thanks & regards - Michael.
  20. This won;t help much but a couple of years ago, I was in the same situation. Not having found a better source, I ended up shelling out £75 ish to Caterham. About 2 weeks later, went to the Stoneleigh Kit car show and there was a stand selling them new for £20 ish. I wasn't happy, but I'm afriad I didn't take the details of the company... Good luck - Michael.
  21. Hi Graham, I've no experience in this sort of thing, but I'll be happy to help... Michael 07766 022864
  22. Angus, Tessa, What time did you finally get home last night - Sorry we ended up leaving you waiting for the RAC, but we'd long exhausted anything useful that we could add... Take care - Michael.
  23. Can someone confirm if MIRA has the same lenient noise limits as Curborough? Thanks, Michael.
  24. Have searched the web, but can't find any pictures or videos of MIRA. Does anyone have any pointers? Thanks - Michael.

    Which red?

I had a can mixed for me at a local motor factors, which is pretty much perfect on my car which is standard Caterham Red. The "formula" was apparently: TB40 - 61.0 11-65.3 54-82.4 59-101.7 No ideal what it means, but it did the job! Michael.
