  1. I suggest that you do it properly - the add on bits do sap LOADS of power and are not a proper solution. Fit a better silencer and resolve the problem for good. Raceco sell what I believe to be the best - far quieter, excellent performance, light, repackable, and good looks. Not cheap, but the best. Michael.
  2. Redline in Caterham sent me the kit last year - £14 or so rings a bell. Didn;t notice any difference to the feel Michael.
  3. Hi Geoff - I don't seem to have received a mail - should I have done? Regards - Michael (mcalvert@aastra DOT com)

    Heater Hose

Looks like my memory isn't as good as I thought it was Just been down to the garage and on my 91 Xflow, both inlet and outlet are 16mm bore. Hope that helps! Michael.

    Heater Hose

What type and age of heater? On my 1991 XFlow, it was 18mm from memory, but there have been at least 3 styles of heater, possibly with different diameter hoses... Michael.
  6. Great information - Thanks! This should really go into the FAQ. Michael.
  7. Zak, Shaun's just been around to my place and it looks like the Radtec will fit my Xflow just fine. So, I'll be calling them in the morning. Thanks for setting this up! Michael.
  8. James Whiting converted mine to a switch with a neat right angle bracket in front of the top of the pedal. Works a treat, and much more reliable than the pressure switch. Michael.
  9. Any hints for stopping leaks around my top and bottom hoses? I got a set from Caterham recently and I am having real problems stopping them seaping, particulatly the bottom hose at both the radiator and the water pump end. I've just tightened up the jubilee clips again as tight as I possibly can, and hopefully this will cure it, but I'm not very confident as I have already done this several times. It's almost as if the hoses are fractionally too large. Should I be wrapping the radiator and water pump ends with something - perhaps self amalgamating tape? Any bright ideas please? Thanks - Michael.
  10. Curses 😳 I would have got away with it, if it weren't for those pesky kids ... Michael.
  11. Graham, Sorry, meant Maxiflow II head, indeed, with bigger valves. Regards - Michael.
  12. Graham, I had the conversion done by Vulcan about 2 years ago when my engine was at the 25K heavy breathing stage. I went for their "stage 2" head and swapped to a 244 cam with Accralite forged pistons. The car is now fantastic. The last rolling road claimed 160 bhp which I am sure is optimistic, but all the same I absolutely love the conversion. The Alpha 3D ignition was the icing on the cake. I see you are down the road in Reading - if you fancy giving my car a try to feel what the conversion did for me, let me know! regards - Michael.
  13. The job centre was closed. A sign on the door said "Closed, due to staff shortages"
  14. Angus - I can GUARANTEE that you will like Cadwell. (OK, so I've never done the 'Ring, but Cadwell is fantastic fun...) Michael.
  15. There are some pictures of mine here if that helps at all. Mine is smaller than "strictly legal" oo, but don;t have the car here to take the exact dimensions. I know that I made it the same size as the plate on the rear wheel carrier though... Regards - Michael.
  16. Hurrah! *cool* Look forward to seeing you there Shaun! MC (BTW, have you looked up on the Map EXACTLY where Anglesea is? - I hand't until we booked it). Michael.

    Battery Options

Steve, What did you use to make the homemade bracket? I'd imagine just some bent metal strip? As I don't easily have the facilities to cut a strip out of sheet metal, is this available in strips off the shelf? Thanks - Michael.
  18. Yes, they are clearly marked. It's worth a search through the archives as this has created quite a lot of discussion in the past. The concensus (backed up by a brochure from Yoko that I now cannot find) is that for rer wheel drive cars, the rear tyres go on the "right way" in relation to the directional arrows, and the front ones go on the "wrong" way. Regards, Michael.

    Weight Loss

Chelspeed, £150 for an ally bellhousing sounds good - who provides these at this sort or price? What model do I need to fit a standard 5 speed box as supplied by Caterham? Thanks - Michael.
  20. Can you post a description/dimensions of the heater that you are looking for? I've got one of the old ones on a shelf that you would be welcome to if it is the right type. Regards - Michael.
  21. How flexible are silicone hoses to take up different sizes? I'm planning to replace a number of rather perished existing hoses over the winter. Some of them such as to the heater (I know, I shoudl lose it...) are 5/6 inch. I calculate this to be the equivalent of 21.1582mm. The closest that SAMco does is 22mm - can I assume that this is close enough and that a good jubilee clip will seal this OK? Also, does anyone have any experience with the Samco flexible hoses to go around corners? Thanks - Michael.
  22. There's a grub-screw in the side of the fan which you undo and it drops off. It'll probably be tight, but it can be levered off with the grub screw removed. The motors are expensive from Caterham (been there, done that). I saw identical ones for MUCH cheaper at the Stonleigh kit car show last year (after I had bought mine from CC 🙆🏻). Sorry, I don't have a record of who they were though. Regards - Michael.
  23. Or for my standard model? Thanks! Michael.
  24. Emerald is well known on K series, managing both ignition and injection. For Xflows where only the ingition timing is in question, the Weber Alpha system is very popular. I have fitted one to my Xflow with 234 cam and the results were excellent. The basic view is the more wild the cam, the better the imporvements from the 3D system. Regards, Michael.
  25. How about using the Samco Superflex hosing for the heater? here I've not used it but I was considering it same as 1m should just reach for me (X-flow in my case). Any opinions? Regards - Michael.
