  2. Scrutineers told me the same about avoiding SA2015 as it will have a very short life. in the past, I've always shopped for helmets at the Autosport Show where they had most manufacturers / distributors represented and sometimes good offers, but from what I heard about the show this year, companies like Demon Tweeks weren't there. All very frustrating (and expensive).

  4. Stuart Freeman very kindly send me his paddock shots to share and I believe he will be sending some track photos too which I will add when I get them. High res versions available if you let me know. A very enjoyable day of competition - we were definitely due a dry day after recent events!
  5. For what it's worth, Motorsport UK's definition of safe engagement of wheel nuts is that they must be "in thread contact over a minimum length of 1.5 bolt/stud diameters". (Guess who got pulled up on this when I was slightly borderline a few years ago...)
  6. Caterham's all-electric coupé concept car will first be shown in public at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from Thursday 13th July. The press release and photos are out now: Project V is a fully-electric coupé concept vehicle that draws on Caterham’s driver focussed DNA of lightness, simplicity and agilityCreated by Chief Designer, Anthony Jannarelly, and built by world-renowned ItaldesignEngineering and manufacturing feasibility conducted during the development process – production model could arrive in late 2025 or early 2026Powertrain uses a 200kW (272PS) rear-mounted electric motor with a 55kWh battery packTarget 0-62mph (100kph) in less than 4.5 seconds and WLTP range of 249 miles (400km)For more information, visit https://caterhamcars.com/en/models/projectv Dartford, Wednesday 12th July 2023 – Caterham has revealed Project V, a lightweight fully-electric coupé concept vehicle that has the potential to arrive in late 2025 or early 2026. Designed as an electric vehicle from the start, Project V is the creation of new Chief Designer, Anthony Jannarelly. His vision has been brought to life by world-renowned Italian engineering firm, Italdesign. Project V uses a battery electric powertrain, powered by a 200kW (272PS) single motor mounted in the rear axle. This is paired with a 55kWh USOC lithium-ion battery pack with advanced thermal management, and the ability to recharge from 20-80% in as little as 15 minutes using a 150kW DC rapid charger. With acceleration of 0-62mph (100kph) in less than 4.5 seconds, Project V will reach an estimated top speed of 143mph (230kph) and deliver a target WLTP range of 249 miles (400km). The minimalist design philosophy means Project V, just like the Seven, is lightweight and simple. Caterham has targeted a kerb weight of 1,190kg (2+1 configuration) which will be achieved by using an innovative carbon fibre and aluminium composite chassis. Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham Cars Ltd and COO of the newly established Caterham EVo, said: “Project V is not just a concept or design study, we’ve conducted engineering and production feasibility throughout the development process. “An electric Caterham of any shape and size has to stay true to what sets us apart from everyone else: being lightweight, simple and offering an unparalleled driving experience; that’s our DNA.” He added: “Project V fulfils our ambition to sustainably grow the company and explore electrification simultaneously. Subject to the next phases of development and technical capability, Project V could be brought to market towards the end of 2025 or early 2026 with a target price starting from less than £80,000.” Anthony Jannarelly, Chief Designer for Project V, added: “A Caterham Seven’s design is simple and minimalist, it’s designed for its intended function, to be lightweight and fun to drive. With Project V, we’re applying this philosophy to the sports coupé architecture to create a seducing and timeless silhouette. Every single feature has to justify itself from a weight perspective to maintain lightness and optimise driver engagement.” The Project V show car uses a 2+1 seating layout – 2+2 as optional – which optimises ingress and egress, provides more comfort for the rear seat passenger and offers greater flexibility in how a prospective owner may use the car. At the centre of the interior is a simple, driver-focussed infotainment system featuring smartphone mirroring, and a digital instrument cluster is used to display key information. Drivers can choose between Normal, Sport and Sprint driving modes that intelligently adjust the acceleration and steering for different environments. The concept features double wishbone front and rear suspension with fully adjustable geometry, electrically assisted power steering, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres (19” front and 20” rear), and brake discs all-round with high-performance calipers. Andrea Porta, Business Development Manager at Italdesign, said: “We’re delighted to have partnered with Caterham and Anthony Jannarelly to bring Project V to life. At every step, we have applied our experience in producing commercially viable concept and prototype vehicles, to ensure that any future production version can be brought to market at pace.” Laishley continued: “Project V isn’t instead of Seven, it’s complimentary to it, and we believe that by retaining the core Caterham values, it will appeal to both our existing customer base and attract new fans to the brand. “By using a more practical coupé body style and by exploiting the packaging benefits of an EV, this is a car that works as well for trips to the shops, or the school run, as it does for Sunday morning sprints.” Kazuho Takahashi, President and CEO of VT Holdings, said: “We are honoured to be able to unveil two new vehicles from Caterham at Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new models are a result of an uncompromising fusion of two seemingly contradictory requirements: retaining the Caterham values that must never change, while evolving to meet the changing demands of customers, such as the shift towards electric. We express our deepest gratitude to all those involved in this project and to everyone who has supported Caterham over the past 50 years.” The Project V show car will make its public debut tomorrow (Thursday) on the Caterham stand at Goodwood Festival of Speed. To support the aspirations of this venture, Caterham EVo has been established to handle all relevant business and investment interests related to Project V. 10. Fantastic! Great looking car!
  11. Funnily enough, there was quite a lot of chat in the paddock about who had been spotted "interfering" with the sheep. A marshal even had the temerity to wave a red flag at me because he thought I might be about to
  12. Good find Dave, thanks for sharing! Great videos but they don't do justice to the Welsh weather that got chucked at us at times!

    Great job LMC!

What a great job Liverpool Motor Club did to give us all 8 runs at Aintree, despite a number of stoppages. I wish all event organisers had their same 'can do' attitude. Great to see everyone for an enjoyable day of competition in the sunshine.

    Crossflow Noise

Mike Riley (RaceCo) hand makes the silencers so they can be customised to the car. My 1700 Xflow has a Raceco silencer he made for me, and the inlet is similarly offset. I'm not quite sure what information you need but the internals are effectively a perforated pipe that runs the length of the silencer around which is welded a metal gauze and around that, the silencer packing material. Since fitting my Raceco silencer 15+ years ago, I've never had a noise issue at any of the tracks we've been to.

  18. In its 50th year, Caterham is moving to a brand new facility in Dartford, KentFacility for the British lightweight sports car manufacturer is due to open later this yearMajor investment by Caterham owner VT Holdings will increase production capacity by 50% to approximately 750 units per annumNew headquarters will house the production, engineering, motorsport and commercial teamsDartford, Thursday 13th April – Caterham has announced it will open a brand new manufacturing facility and headquarters later this year as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Still located in Dartford, Kent, the new state-of-the-art building will be home to Caterham’s production, engineering, motorsport and commercial teams. The multi million pound investment from owners VT Holdings – one of Japan’s largest retailer groups – will see Caterham increase its production capacity by 50%, meaning around 750 units could be built annually. The 54,000 sq ft facility is situated in a brand new nine-acre industrial park development called Dartford X. It is within close proximity to the existing factory, enabling the retention of the skilled workforce who are responsible for hand assembling all cars. The new building will undergo a full fit out in the coming months with completion anticipated towards the end of 2023. In the future, Caterham plans to offer a range of customer experiences at the site including factory tours, events and vehicle handovers. Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham, said: “It’s fitting that, in our 50th anniversary year, we can invest in new premises to facilitate our ambitions, for the future of the Seven and the brand as a whole. “The site not only increases our production capacity but enables us to advance our manufacturing capabilities into a modern setting. It will be a fantastic new home for the brand, our employees and our customers past, present and future to visit.” Alastair Dawson, Senior Asset Manager at Railpen, said: “Caterham is a British manufacturing, engineering and marketing success story with a longstanding connection to Dartford. We have worked closely with the brand in its search for a new home, with Dartford X meeting all of Caterham’s criteria to support the business’ continued growth over the coming years, while retaining local jobs and the vitality of its supply chain partners.” The South East of England has been home to Caterham since it started building cars in 1973 in the town of Caterham, Surrey. In 1987, production moved to Kennet Road in Dartford where its cars have been assembled ever since. This year marks the brand’s 50th anniversary.

  21. Stephen, Burghfield Alternators near Reading are excellent for refurbishment: Unit 2, The Forge, Reading Rd, Burghfield Common, Reading RG7 3BL I went through a phase when I was cooking an alternator every other trackday on my Crossflow Seven. I had Burghfield fit a slightly larger pulley to reduce the maximum rotation speed, lagged the exhaust primaries, and fitted a nylon bracket from Wilcox and I don't think I've had a failure in circa 8 years. The trouble is, I can't tell you which of these three actions did the trick!

Oh, goody, more competition in class 3, just what we needed No, seriously, the more the merrier :-) Look forward to meeting you Kim
  24. Hi Sean - I'm sure others will be along soon to provide chapter and verse but let me answer a few of your questions. Look forward to seeing you in the Championship by the way! Clicking on the "Competitors" tab on the blue bar above should give you access to all of the details you could possibly want. You will see that our Championship comprises a variety of events, most of which are organised by other motoring clubs to which we are an invited class, plus the two events that we organise ourselves (at Curborough). I think you'll find that no clubs have their events open for booking yet as I don't think Motorsport UK has approved any of the regulations yet, but that will happen in time. Entry to our Championship is through LoveAdmin and I am sure the CompSec will announce that entries are being accepted soon. Your best seven scores are counted for the main Championship, but you are free to do an many or as few events as you like. Last year's regulations here explain in detail how the scores are calculated and the range of different categories that are up for grabs. Hope that helps a bit. See you on track soon!

    Cadwell Park

Not sure if it's a good thing or a real shame that the sprint layout at Cadwell doesn't include the Mountain (or at least it didn't when we competed there last...)
