    MIRA Hints...

Well, I am just glad that I'm not the only sad bod thinking about next week at this time on a Friday evening ... Thanks for the input - Adrian, I may take you up on your offer (although unless Caterham deliver me the steering column bushes I have on order, we could yet miss 3/3 MIRAs... ☹️ Michael. MIRA Hints...

MIRA seems to be the bogey track for H5 URF. The last 2 years, we have been unable to attend despite having been booked, because of mechanical maladies. So, what is the key to getting MIRA right - I appreciate that there are no videos available, so can someone please talk me round? Michael.
  4. For years I admired a 7 at ARM's offices in Maidenhead. Muct bethe same one? Michael.
  5. Ray - YH(4)Ms Regards - Michael.
  6. Yesterday, on the way back from doing a trackday and two days of sprints at Pembrey, I had exactly the same failure Luckily, about 3 miles away from the circuit on the way home, at low speed pulling out of a petrol station. My upper steering column was the QR type, probably 8-9 years old. Again, the cutout for the clamp was not radiused. I would strongly suggest that people check to see if their cutout is radiused or not and if of a similar age, consider changing it. For the cost of the part, the consequences of this happening when at any sort of speed are not worth thinking about. Michael.
  7. My turn for the thanks - both to club members and to some "greater power" 🤔 A cracking weekend as has been said by everyone else - a relaxed trackday, and two days of closely competitive sprinting around a fast and demanding course. My "Yellow Trowel" award on Saturday way certainly deserved - travelling sideways at high speed down the grass, looking at the approaching tyrewall was a sobering experience, but no damage other than a bit of gravel-rash and a pounding heart. Today, an alltogether more successful start to the day for H5 URF, which stayed on the grey stuff until the end of the day. 😬 Then, drove a couple of miles to fill up - pulled put of the petrol station, turned right and ... the steering wheel came off in my hand. The upper steering column had sheared and I was left at 90º across the road. Thanks to Nigel Fox, & Alan Johnson for getting me off the road, and especially to Adrian & Dom who took Adrian's car to bits so I could drive home. What a great club Roll on MIRA - Michael.
  8. Please Sir - Is this worth any extra points in the championship? Michael.
  9. [hunts for java lie detector plug-in to work out if D. Nelson is winding us up or not] The lure of Le Mans not enough for you next weekend David? Michael.
  10. No Geoff, there are definitely no places available and I heard the trackday was likely to be cancelled anyway so I'm sorry but no sneaky practice is at all possible before the next round. Even if there were to be a day available, the trackday is run on a totally different circuit so it would not help you anyway. Oh alright, see you there on Friday Michael. 11. The stantion is a Caterham part so probably only available from them or one of ther outlets. For the screens themselves, you can go directly to Kimble Engineering here/. Michael.
  12. I will be there on the Friday - unfortunately not possible on the Thursday before however. Michael.
  13. Brent - I saw in a London Maplins store this week that they were doing a laser-pointer temperature gun for £30, down from £50... Michael.
  14. I thought the PCD was different? Michael.

Kevin - nice shots. Any chance you could email me the hig res versions of the shots of H5 URF - the 5th, 6th and 7th on your page to mcalvert at aastra dot com? Thanks -Michael.
  17. I have a feelingthat I may have - I'll check tonight! Michael.
  18. It's a bu**er of a job to get in. Having failed to get mine in last year and given up (got James Whiting to do it in the end) - I read of what sounds like a cunning plan to make it easier. The suggestion was to close the circlip down by knotting cotton through the eyelet holes. You then pop the circlip in and cut the thread for it to open up and locate in place. Haven't tried it, but sounds like a useful hint? Michael.
  19. Thanks Mark. Subject to the weather being OK, and my being able to get some new engine mount bolts in time today, Tam & I should be there around 8 - 8:30pm Michael.
  20. Kipper - send me your email address and I'll see if I have any of you to prove that there are all fully above board! Michael.
  21. Rob - can you Blatmail me your email address please? If anyone else wants copies of any pics, please send me an email to mcalvert at aastra dot com. Michael.
  22. A selection of photos from Llys y Fran are here My favourites are 203 (just look at the eyes!) and 247 (evidence for a trowel). A FANTASTIC weekend - good weather, good friends and good fun Michael. Edited by - Mcalvert on 12 May 2008 13:41:53
  23. No problem Top hint at the Llandow campsite is that the chinese take-away in Llantwit Major will deliver to the campsite for a very small fee. So, you can sit back with a glass of something cold and have dinner come to you! Looking forward to the weekend already, Michael Founder Member of Drowned Rat Racing
  24. There is an excellent campsite right next to Llandow. Belongs to the same family as the circuit so worth mentioning you are coming for the sprint. I'm pretty sure there is a link to the campsite from the circuit website. I'm pretty sure the Llandow final instructions mentioned camping but I don't have them in front of me... Michael.
  25. What's the coefficient of friction of a Guinea Pig? Wouldn't they squeal? Michael.
