  1. Interesting comments. I would be in favour of allowing Zetecs into Class 3, so long as a fairly level playing field is maintained. This needs to take into account more than just "peak power", as I believe is recognised by the fact that currently, 1800 Ks in class 3 are capped at 140 bhp, compared to other smaller capacity / 8 valve engines being allowed 160 bhp. I have no personal experience of driving a Carb equipped Zetec, but would be concerned that a 2L 16V engine may have a significant advantage over other types? Michael.
  2. You can all keep guessing until the cows come home re middle names beginning with B, but I'm actually a Michael Andrew Calvert (not tooo embarassing, and I really should join MAC as a namesake!) No idea why I was down as Michael B, but I can confirm I was at Curbs both days and am in class 3... Michael.
  3. Sorry Simon - I was planning on leaving earlier - mid afternoon - to avoid the M6 traffic. I don't know what the Elwell's plans are though? Michael.
  4. Have been playing with camber / toe this morning and would like a quick double check I haven't done anything too stupid if possible. (Mind you, as someone who didn't notice anything felt wrong when driving Curborough with 3 of one type/size of tyre and one of another type, how likely am I to notice a few degrees here or there?!?) Michael.
  5. As you can see, Tam & I are great communicators 😬 Michael.
  6. From Burnham (jn 7 of M4 if that helps Richard?) Regards - Michael.
  7. Do a Google search for a free application called Gearcalc. It#ll allow you to model the effect of different gears on your particular car's combination of diff, wheel size etc! Also, Ask for advice from BGH - they have a lot of experience of this conversion for 7s. Regards - Michael.
  8. Another recommendation for BGH here. They very successfully rebuilt, and modified the ratios in my 5 speed box a few years ago. Their website and price list can be found here. All the best - Michael.
  9. Al - the competitor parking is seperate from the spectator parking, but it's all very close. Do you have tickets? Most of us have got spares so it seems silly to spend extra money getting in. My mobile is 07902 472360 if you wanted to give me a call from the gate - Michael.
  10. OK, Ok, this could just as well be posted in TechTalk as here, but I'm asking the Speed fraternity... One of the benefits that I have heard many people refer to when running wider front tyres (Kuhmo's in 215 profile) is that the braking is much improved, to the point that locking the front wheels is not easy to do. I've unfortunately never really found this, and really noticed at Harewood yesterday that I seemed to be locking the fronts pretty much everywhere. Now I'll readily admit that this may be hamfistedness on my behalf, but it could also suggest that the front is over-braked / the rear under-braked? H5 URH is fitted with Alcon 4 pots at the front, running (I THINK) RS15 pads. The rear are "standard" Caterham pads, What are my options? I'm thinking of either more aggressive pads on the rear, or a brake bias system? Thoughts appreciated - Michael.
  11. Rob - I'm sure someone living closer to you wll offer, but if not, no problem! Michael.
  12. Hope you're having a good trip - The "Alice (who the **** is Alice) seveners are staying down the road. Unfortunately we are already 2 cars down, being repaired/recovered. Enjoy the wine & sun but who are you :-) Michael

    SHRAPNEL

Great stuff Grahame Really chuffed for you. Looking forward to a proper Class 3 battle at the weekend 😬 Michael.
  14. Nice one Chris :-) Another success for a Xflow. Michael
  15. Who's the driver adorning the June calendar photo, and what's the venue 🤔 Michael.
  16. Sounds silly but are you sure you haven't left any tools by the bulkhead? I had exactly this when I was interrupted putting the car away after doing some work. I had left a stubby screwdriver under the bonnet which was just the right size to block the upper steering column until I forced it out, but of course rolled back in again to block it again later. Michael
  17. Dmw - do tell us more? Was this grassy excursion on your second timed run? Oh, and are you going to Epynt? No particular reason for asking of course, just idle curiosity :-) Michael
  18. Well, I'll start off with what happened with the Class 3 and 4 records. On the first timed run, Tom Price not only beat his dad, but broke the class 3 record (Mike Sankey, 52.00) with a 51.98. Second timed run, Richard Price went one better and lowered the record to a 51.8 something I believe (sorry, don't have exact time in front of me). Mike Sankey then reclaimed a MIRA class record for himself by winning class 4 with a new best time. A great, hot, day, only marred by somewhat chaotic morning practice sessions where cars were encouraged to go out in "random" order (which just meant long queues).

    Mira Passes

Gary I think the official policy is that the 3 passes are for you and 2 pit lane assistants, as "spectators" are not supposed to be allowed. Never seen it enforced however although I think the 'no under 18s' is. I've got a spare pass if you need one - let me know! Michael Edited by - Mcalvert on 17 May 2010 14:18:05
  20. Only a very few since it was not easy to photograph and compete, but still a reminder of what a beautiful venue this is. here Again, Blatmail me if anyone wants a full resolution version. Roll on Curborough 😬 Michael.
  21. Happy to help out in class 3. Michael

    Llandow Photos

Photos from Llandow here If anyone wants full resolution copies, feel free to Blatmail me. Cracking weekend - Roll on Curborough - Michael.
  23. If those checks are OK then it's probably one of the internal throttle return springs has broken and is blocking the butterflies in the carbs from closing. Not a job to fix at the roadside unfortunately ☹️ Best of luck and let us know how you get on. Michael.
  24. DO NOT TRY TO GO FLAT INTO "NO NAME" AND TURN IN TOO SOON Michael
