  1. Many Thanks for your suggestions. Paul - with your suggestion to run without, would you do without the whole thing, or just the lower part? Elie - if you could check, that would be fantastic. It's only the bottom small bit that I am missing, so it could be posted easily if you do have it. Happy to make a contribution for it and to pay for postage etc. All the best, Michael.
  2. The Xflow has a dust shield between it and the bell housing. In the Caterham application, this is cut into two so that the sump can be removed with the engine in situ. Somehow, the small lower part on mine has disappeared, as I noticed when I took the engine out last year. Unfortunately, despite some promises, I have been unable to locate a replacement. The engine builder tells me that it was not uncommon to run without this part fitted, but I'd appreciate any thoughts... It effectively means that the 2 bottom bolts between the engine and gearbox will not be going through the dust shield layer. I guess I could find some washers to pad out the depth (it's only 1.5 mm) and maybe run a bead of silicon in between? Is there anything I have missed? Michael
  3. Hi Daz, you might be better posting this on ChitChat You might also want to drop a mail to Geoff Picken who is the Club trackday coordinator - (geoff.pickin@lotus7club.com) who I am sure will be happy to advise. You're wise to take tuition - always a good idea, whatever your level of experience Have fun whichever event you choose... Michael.
  4. Shaun - you may already know but Think Automotive are in the Club discount directory offering 10%-15% discount. With the amount of stuff I've bought from them over the years, I wish I'd noticed before... Michael.
  5. Can't believe how quiet it has been on here since the weekend. Are the heads still sore A great event indeed. Photos of the award presentations are here If anyone wants a high resolution copy, drop me a BM! All the best Michael Edited by - Mcalvert on 13 Nov 2012 15:48:12
  6. I'm pleased to say that Alistair (aged 2 until next week) still says - "that's David Nelson's car. He forgot to do his wheels up, and they fell off" every time he sees a blue Seven 😬 Anyway, have a BTTT on me! Michael.
  7. Thanks for the offer Rob but I think I'm sorted thanks. Michael.
  8. Did anyone take any photos at Shelsley Walsh this year? Could do with some for LF if anyone could please share? All the best Michael
  9. Well, somewhat as expected, it's a cracked block. There is a tiny crack low down on bore no 4 which was allowing water through (seemingly only when the engine was cold and only when the piston had stopped dead bottom). This explains the intermittent nature of the problem at least... However, I have actually been very lucky. Upon investigation, bore no 1 shows far worse cracks which have not shown any symptoms, but which would have probably landed me with a totally blown engine very soon... Can I please ask that no mention be made of bike derived engines for the next few months please Michael Edited by - Mcalvert on 14 Aug 2012 09:11:05
  10. Cheers Guys - head should be coming off in the next few days to determine if it's just a head gasket, or a cracked head or block as I rather fear... Ah, the joys of retro motoring Michael.
  11. Looks like the rather strange intermittent coolant loss problem H5 URF had earlier in the year might be more serious than I hoped, so no Loton Park for us . Haven't had a chance yet to work out if it's just a head gasket or something more sinister. See everyone at Curborough, car or no car Michael.

  13. Another entry on its way in ... However, Simon/Mike, there seems to be a problem with the link to the entry form from Competotors Korner - it still shows as "coming soon"? All the best - Michael.
  14. I believe Radtec offers a 10% discount to Club members - check the members discount section. Might help a bit... There's a story in next month's LF about another member's experience in doing just this swap... Michael.

A few shots from Llandow here and from Llys y Fran here Michael.
  20. Could be many things, but sounds suspiciously like the problem I have been chasing on my 1700 x/flow for a while and have just diagnosed. in my case, the bolt holding the trigger wheel onto the crank had come loose, meaning that the trigger weel was stopping in different positions each time I turned the engine over (it is keyed into the crank pulley, but the key pin had sheared under the strain) Worth checking? Otherwise, I suggest - checking that you've got a spark at the king lead and at each of the spark plugs - changing coil, rotor arm, distributor cap, plugs (all cheap parts, and if they don't do the trick, worth keeping in as spares anyway!) Best of luck Michael
  21. Many thanks YHM back! Michael
  22. Glad you enjoyed it Chris. I have to say, I rather enjoyed researching it I'm always fascinated by WWII stories and still can't get my head around how they engineered such huge and well-built facilities in such a short time. Michael
  23. Counting down to the start of coverage from Donnington on Motors TV. Hoping you get more attention from the cameras than Caterham did on their F1 debut Best of luck! Michael.
  24. James - Tillett does offer plastic washers in differing thicknesses for the purpose which I am sure are available in packs from Caterham. Might be a bit lighter than a stack of large metal washers but probably no other great advantage? All the best Michael Edited by - Mcalvert on 24 Feb 2012 11:25:05
  25. Hi James, I would be surprised if the petty strutt didn't fit with the passenger Tillet in place. That's probably the most common combination in the paddock, so unless you have some very unusual combination of spacers under the seat, I can't imagine you would have a problem? I'd just give it a try. Re fixing the petty strut together, yes, you'll need to mark and drill a hole and put a bolt through. You''ll also need a bolt to go into the chassis in the passenger footwell, and a nut and bolt to go through the mount into the roll bar. Sorry, don't have the sizes to hand at the moment, but thay are nothing unusual! Best of luck- Michael.
