  1. Hi David - I suspect that quite a few competitors (like me!) are watching from the sidelines, currently still unsure of what the optimum solution for the championship may be.

However, can we explore your comment that "I think we will see the end of list 1a and 1b tyres to just road going e marked".  Can I ask what you base that on?  Asd I see it, we have only ever had "Road going e marked" as far as the regulators are concerned, it's just been that the MSA has chosen to then separate these into List 1A, 1B (and now 1C).

Whilst I fully appreciate that over time, tyre marking regulations will become more and more stringent, I feel that there will always be a market for "pure road" and "track-biased" tyres, and that as ever, technology development will provide (maybe at a cost?) higher performance track tyres for those who want them.  Am I missing something?  Merging Classes 2 and 3 would be a major step, and I want to make sure that any action we may chose to take is for valid reasons.

    All the best,

  2. Hi Paul / All,

Iw we go Mod-Prod, you say "...you must run an approved cage of which there are numerous options but, since our regs already require this, there are no additional implications"  Does an FIA bar with Petty strutt comply or is a cage necessary (sorry, don't have Blue Book to hand).

    Cheers,

  3. Hi Chris,

I don't know how the torque curves and max revs vary between the Zetec and the Xflow, but when I had my 5 speed ratios changed, I sought lots of advice (and played with gearcalc over many evenings!) and settled on what they called the "sporting close" E7 gearset which is 2.75 1.75 1.26 1.0 0.86.  It certainly was a great improvement over the standard.

I went for the Quaife alloy box at the same time which has the filler in the lid and lops a few kg off.  I didn't have an improved drain plug or dipstick fitted, but in hindsight, probably should have done while I had the chance.

    All the best,

  4. Are you suggesting that wasn't the fastest way around that corner Simon *driving*

In my defence, I did come clean about my misdemeanour, particularly as (although you can't see it in the photo) I came perilously close to wiping out the timing equipment, which I suspect may not have made me too popular *eek*

  5. 8 valves rule *byebye*

In all seriousness, a great day of motorsport and those who haven't tried Epynt really should.  Coming from the South East, I am always surprised when I find that it's really not that far back to the Severn Bridge and then to home - Brecon Beacons may feel like another world, but it's actually not too far from home for me...

A great weekend, definitely helped by the good weather (again!).  I for one hope that we can keep this on our calendar.

  6. Small positive - looks like I will now probably be able to make it, so at least Class 3 will have 3 competitors.  Epynt is a great hill and I do think it's a shame that it isn't better attended...

Is anyone else from L7C planning on staying onsite the night before?

    Michael.

  7. Thank you SOOO much for pointing that out Simon...

Mind you, taking the view that attack is the best form of defense, I would point out in return that I was not the one who went home carrying the yellow trowel (for a change) and that at least I got a little bit further into the lap before spinning than Mr Elwell managed in practice...

    Michael.

  8. BEGGING BOWL TIME

Would anyone be kind enough to put their hand up to write an event report from Goodwood please?  it could be a competitor or a spectator and I'm happy if you want to come at it from any sort of unusual angle...

I'm not competing unil Hethel; I may be spectating at Goodwood, but you're all bored of having me wittering on and on...

    Thanks - Michael

  9. I've just traced my misfire to the fact that the wire to the CPS has been just touching the alternator fan, with obvious results!

I'm going to ty to get a replacement TPS and cable assembly from Webcon, but looking at their parts list, I may only be able to get this with a full trigger wheel and bracket assembly, which gets pretty expensive,  The other option is just to join the cut wires up again.  It looks like there is only a blue and a black wire to connect, although these are surrounded by more wire which I guess is shielding?  If I do reconnect the wires (bullet conectors?) am I likely to be leaving myself open to getting interference issues?

    Cheers - Michael.

  10. You'll probably get some more detailed advice in a moment, but a charging problem and a gauge issue would point to a bad earth to me. Your manual should indicate where the earthling points are and worth checking that all connections are tight and corrosion free. Probably worth loosening them off and using a bit of emery paper to clean the connectors up as a precaution anyway?

    Michael.
