  1. Thanks Elie, I've got a de-dion so maybe this is where the colour coding differs. I'll give Caterham a ring to verify. Mick
  2. OK so which one is it? Chris says a 22% rack is black & Eli says it should be silver. I've just bought a RHD 22% rack from Caterham & it's black (with no label). Mick
  3. Check the archives for details. Although mainly to do with all ali K's the principles no doubt are the same. Use a good quality antifreeze (Comma Coldstream), chuck in some water wetter & make sure there are no air locks Mick
  4. As Tony says: fix to rear seat mounting.
  5. Why not try 21R's? Whoops speed-reading again - I see you've been there! I think you may be into specialist wet racing tyres here which will be cross-ply. Mick Edited by - Mick Day on 29 Dec 2001 18:16:19
  6. Yes. Check previous threads on how to remove the thermostat as it can be a bit of a bugger. Mick
  7. Interesting this one. Before my engine change (standard MEMS) the engine used to "run-on". Now with new engine & GEMS ECU it dies the moment I turn the key. It also starts 1st time even after 4 weeks. I also have a Vecta Shadow. Could this be a symptom of a dying Vecta??!! Let us know how you get on after removing the Vecta. It would also be nice if you could post step-by-step info on how to remove said item. Mick
  8. Check your thermostat as it may have failed - shut!!
  9. Tony Can't agree more with what's been said so far. The Lumenition kit contains Jenvey TB's & a badge engineered GEMS ECU. Althought the GEMS is a well put together piece of kit (talk to Pete McEwen at Raceline, I don't think he uses any other ECU whether for Zetec "K" or VX.) the Emerald M3DK ECU has tremendous backup, not only here, but also from Emerald. You can get TB's which bolt to a separate manifold (try Southern Carburetors) which incorporate the coolant bleed. From my experience I would recommend as others have said, get a second hand engine (preferably with some provenance) & do the work at your own speed. All the details of the conversion are in the public domain so you should have few problems which can't be resolved by return of email. Good luck. Mick
  10. Amosian No, all 1.4 engines were quite old even before they found their way into a Se7en. Rumour has it that Caterham bought a job lot of 1.4 run-out engines back in 1992/3 which lasted until the last 1.4 left the factory (as a special edition!). The shift light may not work because the LED has failed/loose connection etc. My VDO tacho also has the wobblies around 5000 rpm etc. Probably knackered tacho! Robmar What a mouthful. From my recollection the original S/S shift light was driven by re-programming the A/C circuit as it was thought this would be redundent in a Se7en!! Article in LF some years ago. Maybe the new ECU from the EU3 will be as unfriendly as its predecessor???!!! Mick
  11. So many questions Tony. You can certainly have a look at mine any time. I did hear that Felix K was wanting to sell his (to change to a superlite screen) so you could try him. Mick
  12. Size 40R genuine Irvin flying jacket with Caterham Super 7 logo. A1 condition. Just the thing for those cold winter blasts. Would make an excellent Xmas present. Cost new approx £350, will accept £199. Mick
  13. I have a fresh air heater from a 1994 de-dion car in good condition for sale. Comes with heater valve & that lever thingy to fit under drivers side of dash.
  14. Why bother fitting a screen & ruining a good car???
  15. I had this problem from new gearbox install in 1996. Repeated returns to Caterham for fixes. In the end I accepted this situation as "they all do it Sir". During a routine service by Paul Harvey he showed me the problem: grasp the prop shaft & there was definite lateral movement. Diagnosis: failed tailshaft bearing necessitating new tailshaft housing etc all done by Phil Stewart. Phil also recommended jacking the front of the car to a crazy angle to pre-lubricate the tail housing bearing before driving. Good luck Mick
  16. Phoned Yoko yesterday & was reliably informed that 12" & 15" (or was it 16??) will be available "sometime in 2002"; other sizes??? I did wonder whether they would be an alternative to ACB10's but was told they're steel braced radials. However they may be just as good??!!
  17. Fix the number plate light to the threaded hole & fix number plate just below using industrial velcro. Mick
  18. Why go to all this bother? To remove all-in-one manifold: detach silencer, remove detachable chassis rail, undo & remove manifold studs, & if it won't lift out at this stage, remove water rail, lift out manifold. Mick Edited by - Mick Day on 23 Nov 2001 20:50:10
  19. Pierre I have a brand new exhaust protector, in black, for a 6" Caterham exhaust. Good price if interested. Mick

    SLR dashboard

Exactly that, don't fit a full screen. Far more fun without. However if you want to buy a full screen complete with hood & side screens............. Mick
