  1. Rear end: Ford Sierra rear calipers & pads. Front end: Triumph Herald/Spitfire calipers & pads. Correct me if I'm wrong but standard front & rear discs are the same as from a Triumph Herald/Spitfire. Mick
  2. I always thought it a bit daft placing an intake scoop, at best, 80mm above the road surface. It's not only concrete dust from track use but think about a little minor flooding

  5. When I installed a 74deg thermostat (part no: GTS 1102) I couldn't get the car to warm up properly, so changed it for a 82 deg one (Halfords HTK 605) & now everything's fine. I treat my pressure cap as a service item & change it every year, but keep the previous one as a spare just in case.
  6. Do you mean Caterham will re-map it? If so it probably means they'll give you a suitable map which will get you through the MOT. You can then re-load the old "driver friendly" map until you have to go through the same game in 12 months time again. Mick
  7. I've used Mintex 1144 & EBC Greenstuff in my Alcon front calipers alongside standard Caterham (Ford?) rear pads. Personally I couldn't tell the difference between the two. The latest incarnation of Greenstuff appears better & now, at last, it doesn't leave too much brake dust on the wheels. Greenstuff is kind to discs as well. Not too sure what front calipers you're using but some people swear by Hawk metalic pads in standard calipers. The disc will wear rapidly but they're easy to change & cheap. All said & done it comes down to personal preference. If you've never used Greenstuff before & you have a set lying around why not use them? Hope this helps. Mick

    Have a look here http://www.headsetservices.com/ They're Autocom agents but also offer in ear speakers (ala F1) along with custom microphone solutions. Not cheap but very discrete. Mick
  10. Millwood Motors (01453 544321) do some very nice shaped C/F wing protectors which wrap around the wing. They are such a good close fit they could be stuck on.
  11. So Peter I get the impression you're saying the foam just reduces aeration (foaming). Therefore the foam has no part to play if an Apollo is fitted.
  12. Once the washer bottle is removed remove the pump & glue a grommet in place to seal the hole. You now have a convenient container for 2 litres of engine oil. Perfect for touring.
  13. When you remove the filter 98% of the oil in the Apollo will flow out. The little that is left will soon be well diluted with clean oil. A similar amount will remain in the main sump as well & we don't worry about that. Mick
  14. Hmmmm....... we can get a lot of opinions about these can't we. I suppose when it comes down to it we have to get on with what we have as few of us have tried others. My car came with a Motolita 290 mm as standard & that allows a good view of the instruments. The 260 mm in my opinion cuts off the top of the instruments & also increases the steering weight. Couple that with a 22% rack & it can get a lot more physical. Stirling Moss said to drive fast one needs good leverage on the steering wheel (or words to that effect), so it's a combination of wheel size, geometry & seating position (he doesn't like straight arms). I've now got a Momo 290 quick release with a 22% rack - suits me down to the ground. Mick
  15. Most of the problems with stone chips on rear wings is that they'll cover the whole front face regardless of where the minimal heavy S/S protectors are fitted! Millwood Motors (Caterham Agents in Glos?) supply v nice carbon fibre wing protectors which cover this v same area & wrap around the wing. My rear wings which have quite a few bits of damage above where the conventional stone guards fit are now nicely protected by these lightwight guards. Can be fitted with 4 black aluminium bots as well as detailed here

  18. Most 7's are not serviced by a Ford dealer even if they have a Ford engine! For piece of mind change it every 3 years or so regardless of mileage. Mick
  19. Bongo You should be able to set your phone to auto answer. With a Nokia so set, one hears it ringing & after 2 rings it auto answers. When they hang up so does the Nokia so completely hands free. Mick
  20. My control box is velcroed to the rear bulkhead behind the seats & I have aeros only. No problem so far but I don't deliberately drive in the rain. Since the heated screen switch is redundant I wired into this circuit; but if you do this remember to use a 3amp fuse.

  22. You need a minimum of 2 rear view mirrors, one of which I believe has to be on the off side of the car. The other can be anywhere as long as it gives a rear view.
  23. Roger The charcoal cannister is an emission thing. Petrol vapour from the tank is purged through here controlled by the ECU. If you can do without the cannister, a circular catch tank can fit in here. Mick
  24. It's not the Apollo tank that causes this, it's an overfilled sump; the crank thrashes into the oil & the friction heats it up. This thins the oil causing the peripheral resistance in the bearings to drop hence the reduced oil pressure. Oil pressure is the product of the pump output & the peripheral resistance. The reduced pressure is not too much of a problem - as long as it doesn't go below 2 bar & for not too long. What is a problem is 2 bar pressure consisting of a frothy mix of oil & air. The Apollo tank is a good thing as it removes any air suspended in the thrashed oil. If you want an Apollo tank I'll have one to sell come Easter as I'm fitting a dry sump.
