    Tonneaus

Why not take the half doors off, stow them in the footwell & fit the tonneau? Alternatively if the doors are screwed to the sides, get the tonneau modified by Jill Judd & popper to the top of the doors. Mick
  2. Myles Looks as though you've sorted it. There can't be many variations of Leda rear dampers for a Caterham. My de-dion has the through the tube mounts only & I didn't have too much of a problem fitting them a few years ago. The only concern was maybe the tube was touching the chassis on full droop. I showed it to Gary May who said no problem. Has passed 2 MOT's since. Mick Edited by - Mick Day on 27 Jan 2006 18:27:09

I'm sure it was Gary: he does "moonlight" as an extra from time to time.
  4. Manx Just re-read my last post: it's supposed to read that as it is a passenger side harness it hasn't had a lot of use. From what I understand they are not handed. Send me an email via Blatmail & I'll send a pic. Mick
  5. Giles Unfortunately your return email address doesn't work. In answer to your question: I think the BP270H cams are very similar to the 1600SS cams. To be sure contact Piper on 01233-500200 or Dave Andrews on 01908-322652. Yes they're still for sale & I would sell separate to the head. Mick
  6. I've got a 4 point Caterham branded Luke harness available. It's a passenger side harness so it hasn't had a lot of use. Edited by - Mick Day on 26 Jan 2006 08:49:59
  7. It does if you fit it like this here. I modified my pick-up with a few whacks from a hammer to make sure the clearance was correct.
  8. Phil & Linda I'm sorry to hear of your problem with the tube. This Blatchat thread here might be of interest.
  9. 98RON costs more; no damage to the engine only to your wallet 😬
  10. Use 95 RON. There is advice from Caterham that under higher stress (track days etc) using 98 RON will help keep oil temperatures under control. Have a search in the archives; posted by Simon Lambert, Caterham service manager.
  11. James Whiting does a kit, but no doubt this is sourced from Think
  12. Steve Have a look here. Often have 2nd hand laptops in stock, but I see thay don't have any at present. However worth filing away as they do brilliant service on repairs. No connection just a satisfied customer. Mick

  15. Angus My pump is out & I will be rebuilding with an R500 pump. I'll bring it along to the WH on Thursday. James Whiting does an uprated pump gasket ; it's a bit thicker so I suppose it doesn't leak; I hope! Mick Edited by - Mick Day on 13 Jan 2006 18:49:48
  16. Thanks RJ, I caught on to that one. The head is sitting on a shelf at DVA's at present. Probably the easiest thing to do is if Franky wants the head & you want the cams then it goes to Franky & he could remove the cams & send on to you. However I'm sure though that DVA would do this for his usual fee if Franky doesn't want to do it.
  17. Dave's your man for accurate advice as to what each of these cams will produce.
  18. Franky Reading from DVA's website, with the valves, porting & BP285M (740 mechanical grind) cams it should produce about 185BHP in a 1.8. With your 1227 cams & roller barrels it should produce more.
  19. Both heads are fully assembled & ready to roll. They are both K16 heads. Franky: Paul Ivey valves 29.5mm inlet & 26mm exhaust. It is suitable for a 1.8 k & will produce about 185BHP RJ: If someone buys the head on it's own then yes you could have the cams & followers.
  20. Delbert Are you still interested? Mick

    Oil Surge

Have a look at Jason's site here for instructions. After removing the foam thingy I installed the baffle & found there was no difference in surge. After modifying my pickup, as per Jason's instructions, this improved considerably. How did I modify it? Well I used DVA's technique & just knocked the pickup pipe with a drift to create the required 3mm clearance . Having stripped the engine only one big end shell shows signs of wear & that's after 5 years of hard use in a 175BHP engine that's been regularly run to 7500rpm. I too am moving to a dry sump so have a Hellier baffle & modified pickup, plus sump & windage plate all in good condition for sale. Edited by - Mick Day on 10 Jan 2006 17:26:25
  22. 3 years & 12350 miles ago, when I uprated my engine, I put in a standard clutch. It coped very well with 175BHP. On stripping the engine for further changes the clutch plate looks as new. It's a light car so you don't need a "strong" clutch especially if you treat it gently & don't "drop" the clutch or indulge in donuts! What am I fitting now? The AP version to cope with the higher torque & power, but would be more than happy to refit the old clutch if there were no changes.
