  1. Sounds as though the main ECU fuse has blown. Have a look & check; it's a 30 amp one.
  2. What is overfull? The Caterham manual says 6.5 litres but I've seen up to 7.5 litres recommended by others. If you have to drain some off put a clean tray under the sump & drain some off into here. Easier to do cold & also easier if you have a spare sump plug.

    scholar engines

Dave assembled mine for me: 1.9K; single tang rods; standard crank; ported, modified VVC head; BP285H cams; GEMS ECU; Jenvey throttle bodies; balanced assembly; Pace dry sump. 227.6 BHP @ 7770 & 164.1ft/lbs @ 6416. Will break the 230 BHP barrier once an adjustable fuel pressure regulator is fitted.
  4. *idea*Why not a warning for when the engines been left on as well.

    gear knobs!

Ben Take the gear lever out, hold it in a vice & use mole grips to unscrew. May need to use some heat. Mike Yes the lever was 2 part on my 1994 car. Mick

    gear knobs!

Actually this is not a silly question. I had to remove the little extension fitted to the lever as the extension had a different thread.
  7. Allen That's an interesting one. When changing from my 1.4 to a 1.6 my gearbox input shaft was shortened & a spigot bearing /sleeve inserted. So what's the difference from the 1.4 to the 1.6 that requires the input shaft surgery? I'm curious.
  8. Caterham supply the felt seals as seperate items. I would assume Rimmer do as well along with Redline et al.
  9. You either have a slight oil weep from the cam-cover gasket or the join between the cam-carrier (this should be sealed with anaerobic gloop). Oil runs down to the bolt. If it's not too much live with it; if it's a lot then start with a new cam-cover gasket but do not over-tighten the bolts. Edited by - Mick Day on 10 May 2006 23:25:34

    Radiator

If anyone wants it I have a standard rad supplied in 1995 & used on my old 1.4K until 1999. It's the narrow version so it's free to anyone who wants to collect it.
  11. Why take the whole caliper off? Why not just undo the 2 bolts holding the caliper claw to the carrier. It's then an easy job to wind the piston back, refit the pads & replace the claw. I must adit that I used to remove the whole caliper until I saw a guy from Hyperion change the pads this way in 5 minutes; both sides!
  12. Kev I'm really sorry to hear this & after all your hard work with the recent Pace DS BB. Was this after you fitted the DS? I know this is a bit sensitive at the moment but would you care to say how it happened? Mick
  13. I live in Horsham, however I would only take my car to Track 'N' Road. Just across the Dartford crossing in Rainham. 07774-773824.
  14. Track 'N' Road *thumbup*
  15. Paul Haven't a clue on auto boxes but if all else fails try the following: King Automatics, The Chalk Pit, College Road, Epsom, Surrey KT17 4JA, tel. 01372 728769. Never used them but have heard good things from several independent sources. Mick
  16. Shaun 1st drive yesterday in my newly rebuilt car. I've got RS15 front, RS14 rear; 1st impressions are v encouraging in that they were v positive from cold. Alcon 4 pots at front & standard Sierra rear.
  17. T.A.D.T.S. (they all do that sir) Mines done it for the last 5 years. As Myles says use a little "persuasion" when separating. Undo all the bolts, get someone to support the end of the silencer, & start persuading. When re-fitting use a smear of coppaslip on the joint which'll allow it to come apart more easily. You can try some gum stuff to try & improve the seal but I think most peoples opinion is it only works for a short while. Edited by - Mick Day on 29 Apr 2006 12:18:09
  18. Yep, uprated fuel pump.
  19. Interesting & exciting day yesterday spent with the Steve Greenald & his mate Steve at Track 'N' Road. Dave Andrews built engine: 1.9 Scholar block; Pistal forged pistons; standard crank; single tang rods; VVC modified & ported head with BP285H cams; GEMS ECU; Caterham 4:2:1 exhaust; Pace dry sump. We were hoping for 210 BHP with 155 ft/lbs torque but came away with 227.6 BHP @ 7770 rpm & 164.1 ft/lbs torque @ 6416 rpm Using the standard fuel pressure reg the injectors were on maximum at over 7200 rpm. With this in mind it's expected to break the 230 bhp barrier when I've got the adjustable FPR fitted. Until then the limiter's been set at 7200. Oh yes; my worries about the starter were ill founded as my little Magneton starter & Odysey 545 spun the engine up hot & cold all day. So many thanks to Dave & of course the two Steves ❗ Edited by - mick day on 29 Apr 2006 09:47:16
  20. Alex Wong said: Very useful for doing up the connections on the fuel filter as I found out yesterday ❗
  21. Don't forget a knife. Why? 12 years ago when my car was 3 months old water sprayed over the windscreen. HGF you all say. No! The bleed hose from the front of the head had split as the clip was too tight. Cut the end off & re-fixed it in 10 minutes. Oh yes forgot to mention had to borrow the knife from a 6'6" 18 stone trucker so now always have a sharp knife in the car.
  22. I don't know whether the standard cam cover is any different to a VVC cam cover but my standard cover takes the following size hoses. Small breather: 5/16" Large breather: 1/2" Before you blank off have you considered this here Edited by - Mick Day on 25 Apr 2006 21:03:40
