  1. Does shortening the input shaft (5 spd) prevent reinstallation of original 1.4 as suggested in Lawrence's posting? malcolm
  2. Chelspeed - Anticavitation. You are absolutely correct. This term has bothered me for a while, as I thought it was being used incorrectly. I even asked an ex-submariner. And he knows a thing or two about cavitation and propellers! The Russians used to chase him because of cavitation.
  3. Martin Sounds like a good idea. In fact I could get you and Stu to fit it together and I'll supply the beer Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 15 Nov 2003 18:38:06
  4. Stu This must mean you will be able to help me fit my apollo after Santa has delivered it Malcolm
  5. Alan Remove rear wheels and remove access panel in front of spring / damper unit. Inertia unit removed laterally after undoing retaining bolt and feeding seat belt thru slot. Malcolm
  6. Martin From Rover 214, my Rover dealer had difficulty in obtaining one so repaired it (new nipple at throttle end and inner cable)FOC, and I got a new one from CC. Saw loads in a breakers recently. Malcolm

  8. not tools, but I would add a clutch and accelerator cable . WILL be needed at some point. Think about starter solenoid wire - yes it happened this morning. usual story - hot engine in petrol station, late for work etc etc
  9. smegnoguk How did you guess? Prehaps you knew that vets use steroids for everything 😬

  12. Phil, If the pain is UNDER the heel bone and painful to walk on it may be inflammation in the broad band of tissue that keeps the 'arch' of the foot in shape, where it joins the heel bone. Known as 'plantar fasciitis'. Best way to treat this is with a steroid injection in the tender spot. Alternatives are: 1. Do nothing, chance it may go on its own. 2. Ibuprofen or similar. If the pain is in the Achilles tendon where it joins the heel bone, and painful on moving the foot up and down, it may be an inflamed Achilles tendon and its sheath. Rest, physio and Ibuprofen may help. Look for any aggravating factors (other than driving your car) to stop. Malcolm
  13. Bare, Peter and Captain Chaos. Thanks for the advice. Problem solved. New rotor arm, and now no misfire. Malcolm
  14. Apologies if common question. 1994 1.4 supersport. Current plug =NGK BCP 7ES. Seems to be prone to fouling eg after long overrun downhill or in slow traffic. Probably 6k old. Gap is correct. New HT leads. I plan to try a plug replacement. Any recommendations? Thanks Malcolm
  15. Almost certainly 3 rail box, although Plus 2 S 5 speed is a Lotus casting with Maxi internals. I have complete original workshop manual for Elan which includes overhaul of the 3 rail gearbox. Email me off line if you require copies. Malcolm
  16. Removal of the ARB is greatly eased by removing the boot floor(drill out the rivets in the plywood portion and lift out, replace rivets with self tappers)and carefully tilt the honeycomb portion rearwards, after removing all the self tappers. Beware that the rear panel can be dented from the inside if the honeycomb is allowed to contact it . You will find this will give you much more space to thread the ARB out. There are two different sizes of ARB bushes , and are colour coded. The new ones will go on easily, as per Tony's advice, with washing up liquid. Malcolm
  17. Thanks for the info. I feel a Piggy bank raid coming on ❗
  18. Graham Do you mean 95 GBP per corner Malcolm
