  1. Stevo. I'm very sure you are not alone. My wife asked me last night if I was buying a kit by stealth, as a package has arrived every day recently. At least I was able to intercept the new spring/dampers this morning (thanks for quick delivery Freestyle) ❗ Malcolm
  2. Calling Len Unwin.... any ideas? Malcolm
  3. Any bets that this thread will be longer than the one on HT leads? 😬 malcolm
  4. Martin May I come and play? malcolm
  5. I now have a refurbished steering rack returned from Chris Wheeler's 7 Workshop. Great service Malcolm
  6. Paul re oil pickup cheque in post malcolm
  7. I think just using cable ties is asking for trouble, if not dangerous. Think of that tank coming loose at speed, full of 120 degrees (hot) oil close to the alternator belt and exhaust. The tank should sit on the alloy platform. Use both the formed metal rectangles, firmly rivetted to the chassis. Secure the tank to the rectangles with the jubilee clips supplied. Keep the cable ties for tying cables ❗ BTW look at the assembly guide for decent photos, as suggested Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 20 Jan 2004 19:22:40
  8. Thanks all for your responses. The rack is now on its way to The 7 Workshop for open heart surgery. I decided I was not brave enough for this one. Malcolm
  9. JP thanks. The wear is in the inner joints for sure. I don't think shims will resolve this. The rack type is identical to that on P.99 of Tony Weal's book. I guess the ball cup is worn. Any more ideas anybody? Tom B - I hope you didn't omit to go up Nant y Garth 😬 Nick - Pit stops here always welcome See tel no above. I will miss Daresbury this month as I will be working ☹️ Stu - I now have an estimte for the engine build from DA. I hope to do this in early summer. My main concern at present is getting it through the MOT Malcolm
  10. TomB Thanks for that ❗ You are welcome to call in for a coffee stop (and you could give an opinion on this rack) Call me 01824790495 Malcolm
  11. Phil Use a centre punch and hammer. Pick two positions say 3 and 9 o'clock, and with the punch angled slightly back towards yourself tap each side progressively until the cap comes off. No need to use excessive force. Takes 30 secs and leaves a punch mark for next time. Malcolm
  12. 1994 Supersport. Rack is black steel tube type and looks like those on my Minis 25 years ago. The steering rack is sitting on the workbench. It has play in both inner ball joints (not the pinion). Search of the archives indicates that tightening the nut inboard of the joints may resolve the problem. Is this correct, or does the rack need to be overhauled? Does anybody know of an exchange/reconditioning service in North Wales/Chester area? Surely I don't have to spend £200 on a new Caterham rack ❗ Malcolm
  13. Stu I guess you will be starting a 7 consultancy soon Malcolm
  14. I see the Zetec boys have got jealous of our discussion. See Tech Talk. ( can we have a Master Class on how to create a link?) Malcolm
  15. Beagle How did you undo the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts? Malcolm
  16. 52306 CLT K16 locking tool. Draper Tools. £2.95 see www.drapertools.com Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 4 Jan 2004 17:08:07
  17. On my list too. I think we need to buy a job lot from somebody...... Malcolm
  18. Dedion? I thought this is responsible for tube cracking. See www.blatchat.com/T.asp?id=28977. Look at PC's comments.
  19. Oliver I replaced mine recently. As Stu states the correct way is to rivet from above..... but you can rivet from underneath, then file away 1/32 to 1/16'' or so of the protruding rivet until you have a enough clearance, without risking the intregrity of the rivet. Worked fine so far malcolm
