  1. The latest Caterham FIA rollbar will fit a 1994 de dion but I'm not sure about the earlier type. Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 4 Jul 2004 23:17:18
  2. Nifty Can you tell me more about the existing loom wiring for the oil temp sender? Where will I locate this? (1994 car). Malcolm
  3. spigot bearing may require changing. Otherwise I'm not much use!! Malcolm
  4. 98 days to go. 😬 (bored at work) Whats the weather going to be 🤔 Rain, no doubt Malcolm
  5. Andy I used CMA Chester Ltd Factory Road Sandycroft Deeside Flintshire 01244 539500. They were recommended by Rover Chester ( Is that brave?? ). Skim and pressure check £50 plus VAT, same afternoon service. Seemed ok and efficient. Whether i would trust a VHPD with them is a different matter ❗ malcolm
  6. Before removing cylinder head drain coolant by removing thermostat housing and thermostat, otherwise the head will still contain some coolant. malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 21 May 2004 16:45:53
  7. Stu Not sure I know the answer about the water rail. Hopefully you will be able to fix it before Le Mans. I'm sure someboby will be along soon with the answer. Sad to say that I found a coolant leak in that corner last week, but from block /head joint due to HG failure. Should be running again tomorrow. Malcolm
  8. Yup. Carb cleaner works a treat. Thanks again for the advice Malcolm
  9. Tom I had my rack refurbished last winter by Chris Wheeler's 7 Workshop. Overhaul, 2 new trackrod ends, carriage and VAT =£139. Took seven day from sending it to receiving it back. CC not interested in refurbishment, will supply new current version ( which dosn't fit older cars very well according to Chris Wheeler) for £200 plus carriage. Malcolm
  10. Thanks for the replies Malcolm
  11. Despite CC's instructions, this is a pretty straight forward job. Do it yourself and save £200. Give yourself plenty of access: exhaust manifold off, alternator off, and I happened to have the radiator off at the time. For real security use top and bottom fixers, rivetted to the chassis. Do not rely on cable-ties alone.Only a small amount of metal needs to come off the block, but I did need to relieve the alternator bracket to clear the oil pipes (1.4SS). The angles of the flow pipes to and from the oil filter adaptor plate are critical -see photos on Angus and Tessa's web page. Trial fit and finally tighten the adaptor plate pipes whilst on the workbench and transfer to the car. Fit a spare alternator belt and clip it out of the way. It is possible to make the Apollo oil tight first time ❗ 😬 Malcolm
  12. The Rover manual suggests using a foam action solvent for removing old cam carrier sealant. Rover/Unipart don't sell it, and Halfords had never heard of it. What product do you engine builders out there use? Thanks Malcolm
  13. Mav Coldstream premix is £6.40 plus VAT for 5litres (min order 20litres) at Chester Exhaust Services (Sealand). I do not have the number to hand (at work tonight ☹️) but will email it to you. Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 19 Apr 2004 22:39:47
  14. Do not fit AVOs inverted. The damper adjuster on the inside gives more clearance. malcolm
  15. WD40 liberally every day for a few days. should come undone, but I've heard some horror stories. Fit a new caphead bolt and sleeve if corroded, and plug the hole with grease. Good luck!
  16. I also suffered a leaking non aluminium radiator with red coolant. I now use Coldstream. Malcolm
  17. Wrighty Excellent news. S*d the business venture and enjoy the car Lets hope next time that people with no intention to make an offer don't try to undermine your sale. Malcolm
  18. Bacon Butty: ''Not wanting to spoil your sale but .......'' Why post then? Unless of course, you have yet to declare your interest. Not very helpful, IMHO Malcolm
  19. Thanks Rob. It is a 1994 car, all standard equipment Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 2 Mar 2004 10:13:12
  20. I have entered the Club Lotus track day at Castle Combe in May. The noise limit is 100db (A) at 0.5m 4500rpm static test. The car is 1.4 SS with external 4 into 1, standard side exit silencer and standard induction. Is the car likely to pass? Thanks Malcolm
  21. Thanks Martin I gather there is a big brown parcel waiting for me at home. Sadly I won't get home until Thursday evening, so I will have to wait Also more parcels to explain away to my wife 😳 Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 11 Feb 2004 17:51:51
