  1. Trevor I'm aware what the sump foam (and apollo)is supposed to do. I'm asking for people's experience without the foam, as I suspect, as does Oily, that it's a waste of time. malcolm
  2. Two questions, 1800 K: 1.Foam block supplied with the Apollo for fitting in the cam cover. Does this serve any purpose or may I throw it away before it falls to bits? 2.Sump foam. Search of the archives indicates some people have suffered significant surge without the foam even with an apollo fitted. What is the general opinion/experience? 5. Myles and BOSS Thanks. The pressure plate surface is not scored or cracked, and the diaphram spring fingers seem ok. I shall just replace the friction plate. ( and CRB.....and then wait for CRB failure ) Malcolm
  6. Slightly surprised to discover a worn offside lower wisbone spherical joint after 12 months/7400 miles (definite slack in the joint rather than loose in its wishbone housing). Is this to be expected? No doubt they can be obtained from a bearing factor at a fraction of CC' s price? Thanks Malcolm
  7. Engine out at the moment, and I am fitting a new clutch assembly. On other cars I have always replaced the clutch pressure plate/cover along with the friction disc. Is it always necessary to replace the pressure plate? Is it possible to measure the pressure plate wear and if so what is the service limit? Thanks. Malcolm
  8. Happy Christmas Tom Relieve the dowels with fine emery so they are a snug fit. I did it with the dowel in a drill bit. Dont hammer them in !! Malcolm

  10. I'm afraid they are like gold dust , and people are unwilling to part with them. 'Sam' (only half a skeleton, with fractured jaw and a few missing teeth) is part of the family now, having seen three family members through medical school. Now waiting for the next generation. I expect your son has considered a job in an anatomy department as a demonstrator, but it is a sure way of learning the anatomy. Malcolm
  11. Dave Is failure of the sprocket common? Lack of a woodruff key, I suppose. Allen £65 for the cambelt sprocket alone? Malcolm

  16. Fill and bleed the system cold without the engine running. see http://www.blatchat.com/T.asp?id=52540&pn=2&ps=15&c= This describes PC's method which is effective and gasket safe. The first time I did it hot I got an air lock and was replacing the head gasket within a few weeks. 17. Tom As you know I have recently acquired a 1400 lightened flywheel , and I can confirm the clutch cover bolt size is the same as that for the standard flywheel. Malcolm
  18. Previous owner used copperslip everywhere on mine and the engine/bellhousing easily pulled apart.
  19. Rover list 2 coolant pumps for the 1800K: PEB 100510 without evaporation chamber. PEB 102510 with evaporation chamber. I don't have the original pump for comparison, as I am building up an engine from scratch. The Rover dealer uses more of the first one. Any ideas which one I need? Malcolm
