  1. I lied about the price to my wife when I (foolishly) unpacked it in the kitchen. Malcolm
  2. My oil pressure gauge indicated a significant drop in pressure on slightest provocation on the road after upgrading to 1800. Fitted a Hellier baffle today and I took great pleasure in putting the sump foam in the bin. Malcolm
  3. I made my own engine number up and DVLA have amended the Registration book Malcolm
  4. I'm not sure I would trust the average person behind a Rover Parts counter. They seem to have enough trouble with oil filters/fuel filters/cambelts and so on For the cost of the bolts and considering what they do, surely one just uses new bolts. Malcolm
  5. Yes, I was referring to high port heads 1400 SS MEMS and higher capacity straw injectors work fine. Forgot to add non CC cylinder block requires grinding for starter fitment - as per photos on on Myles' website. edited to say: My conversion was on on a 1994 car. I retained the existing 1400 engine loom as there I believe there are compatibility issues with later cars. 6. Straightforward swap. Search the archives, as there is plenty of info, esp Stu's document Retain your 1400 SS Mems, flywheel, plenum / throttle body /fuel pressure regulator, sump (check fixing size - may reqire drilling to accept M8, depends on age of 1400) and cylinderhead/SS cams. You will need 1800 short engine, higher flow 1800 straw coloured injectors, 1800 alternator and cambelt pulleys, wider 1800 cambelt. Non Caterham 1800 will require crank spigot and sleeve (from QED) and possibly require shortened gearbox 1st motion shaft (if 5speed - I dont know about CC 6speed). Good time to get the SS cams timed properly with verniers. Sadly, CC now sold out of LW 1400 flywheels. Suspect the CR is the same and the valve sizes are identical. Small increase in power, but lots of torque. Email me off line if you want more info. Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 5 Mar 2005 00:26:47
  7. Hi I afraid I'm not going to be able to help.... but I did search my old Elan S3 manual to no avail. Try CC or alternatively Club Lotus 01362 694459, www.clublotus.co.uk, or clubhq@paston.co.uk
  8. Beware of A55 excessive traffic westbound evening before a bank holiday , esp if weather forcast is good ( which of course it will be) Malcolm I suppose I will have to put up with Welsh mirth for the next 10 years after England's defeat.
  9. Brodie I will keep the day free. Please let the reserves know if there are any drop outs. 01824 790495 Malcolm
  10. Wahey Dunno about dry sump, but my 1400 WET sump had M6 fixing rather than M8 on the 1800, and therefore required drilling out. But then you have a dry sump..... Malcolm
  11. Can do 13th, 20th and 27th Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 10 Feb 2005 09:52:37
  12. Richard The sleeve on mine was a (tight) push in fit, locked with bearing adhesive. Try the suggested pre-freezing. How's it all coming on? Mine ran for the first time tonight!! Malcolm
  13. Never use the cam locking tool to try to lock the engine whist attempting to undo the crank pulley. If you do the belt will not only jump a tooth or two, but it is possible to damage the belt. Malcolm
  14. I' d be interested, Brodie. I need ALOT of practice to get off the bottom of class 2 ❗ Malcolm
  15. Maen ddrwg gen i, ond d'wi ddim yn siarad Franc! Ysgrifennwch yn Saesneg, os gwel yn dda!!! *tongue* Malcolm
  16. make that three for a price 🤔 malcolm
  17. Richard The 1400 rev limit is preset to 7600, shift light a nanosecond before (? 7400). Oily advised me to set the 1800 rev limit to around 7000. Trust you to make your own!! 😬 Malcolm
  18. 1400ss to 1800ss upgrade but retaining original distributor/cams/ECU/flywheel trigger pattern. I wish to lower the rev limit/shift light to suit the 1800. I understand the 'non reprogrammable' nature of the Rover ECU , but is there anybody out there who is clever and has successfully hacked one of these, or does this sort of activity leave one with a dead ECU? Will eventually go down the path of a reprogrammable ECU/other engine upgrades in about 2 years, so until then if the Rover ECU is 'tamperproof', is my short term solution only to buy an after market limiter/shift combination,e.g. Omex speed system, or separate limiters and shift lights from Armtech or Aces? If so, any recommendations? Thanks Malcolm
  19. There you are Mike...... the name I couldn't remember on Weds night was Judd. Malcolm
  20. Tom, Stu The gearbox input shaft will need alot of Viagra if it ever wants to be the same again, as it is quite a bit shorter now. What a lot of hot filings. 😬 Malcolm
  21. Stu better add it to my 'need list' I sent you last night! 😳 Malcolm
