  1. Tom, I guess it all hinges on how you use the car. If you are mainly using the car on the road, I wouldn't bother either. Martin, how much is the tank? Malcolm
  2. From DVA, standard mains and big end bearings are £100, bottom end gasket set £22, plus sealant. Add to that rebuild labour, oil and coolant. And you'll be tempted to upgrade something else in the engine whilst it's out 😬 Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 9 Jul 2005 20:10:23
  3. see PC's method, http://www.blatchat.com/T.asp?id=83927. I learned the hard way....
  4. I found that the Hellier baffle ( with Apollo but without foam) makes no difference to surge. I'm surprised I have any bearings left after Oulton T/D. Dry sump is the only answer...... Malcolm
  5. Richard, I expect you've got loads of these now. Maybe keep some for me, as it is ony a matter of time..... Malcolm
  6. IIRC, about £90. But I needed the job doing in a hurry. Next time I'd put that towards a nice ali rad.
  7. Just you wait, Nick... I've got a camera too...... Malcolm
  8. You can get it refurbished, complete with a new core and pressure tested, but is expensive and may be better to put the money towards a new radiator. My local Serck Intertruck did mine.
  9. Thanks, Nick for reminding me how big the stones were. At least I missed the cone . Thanks to everyone who helped getting my engine running again, and to BB for organising a great day Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 27 Jun 2005 11:19:07
  10. Richard Don't forget to take spare rear wing fixers as you know those Llandow cones jump out at you Malcolm
  11. changed mine last winter- It certainly needed changing, after removal I blew through the filter outlet- loads of crud came out.
  12. Colin I've never had anything but rapid helpful responses from CC (both sites), by phone or email. Maybe it was the way you asked? Malcolm
  13. Graham Yes please! I've emailed you via profile. Malcolm Hickey
  14. Graham What about a request for help on Chitchat.....? Malcolm
  15. Dave You've been working late..... Have you executed the Ford dealer yet? Stu New batch of hens in situ, but not laying yet....Customers not happy!! Batch of ducks yet to come from Pentrefoelas....thanks Justin and Sara. Malcolm
  16. Well, seems I have the same diagnosis, at last. All of the oil drillings on the exhaust side of the cylinder head are poorly aligned, and 2 completely miss the oil groove in the cam follower altogether. Inlet drilling are in perfect alignment. This will come as some relief to those of you who are fed up having to ask me if it's fixed yet......Time to get the Dremel out. Maybe in the future cylinder head machining in China will better than Brum.(Virtually brand new cylinder head, but I won't let on who I bought it from 😳) Malcolm
  17. Well, Nick, when you've sold that you could buy a few more sevens..... Malcolm
  18. Bruce The best bits of the 1400 ss are above 6k rpm ❗ Thrash it, it's virtually indestructable. The Haynes manual is ok. Rover belt is fine. malcolm
  19. Stu Maybe we can persuade Tom B to join?
  20. *thumbup*Now that is a good idea........
  21. Jono I'm with Daniel with this...... go 1800. Easy upgrade and not too expensive. Makes a big difference, although mine was a 5 speed 1400 which is significantly worse than your 6 speed. Email me if you want some details, costs etc Malcolm
