  1. My recent experience is that if you are not fitting the original differential, you may find you have to re-centralise the diff (to within 2mm) with the packing washers. Measure from the diff to the side chassis rail. Malcolm Edit: I managed not to spill ANY oil taking the diff out.........Until a week later when I walked into the full plastic basin which was still on the garage floor Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 9 Apr 2006 22:45:04

  3. Why change the oil? Gear oil doesn't get contaminated with combustion products unlike engine oil. Just keep it topped up. malcolm
  4. I've had excellent friendly service too! Malcolm
  5. Bruce Sorry to hear about your emission woes. I 'm not sure I have an answer, but interestingly my car is a 1400cc 1994 factory built car (confirmed by CC and used as a demonstrator) but the 6th VIN digit is 'K' . Passed the MOT test on Saturday with a smoke test only. I was worried about the new MOT and which emissions test would apply, as this is a re-engined car with an 1800. Seems the VIN numbering is inconsistent. Malcolm
  6. Darren Very impressive !! *thumbup* Malcolm
  7. Thanks Dave, I'm glad about that, as I filled it yesterday without giving the grade of oil any thought!! Malcolm
  8. David Yes I retained the 1400 SS ECU, the only change was to the injectors (blue changed to cream). The cams, plenum, fuel rail, FPR, engine loom and flywheel were from the1400. The car is a 1994 with a high port head which is identical to that on the 1800. Malcolm
  9. Is EP 90 ok for seirra differential with Quaife LSD? Thanks Malcolm
  10. David I retained my complete 1400 SS induction setup when I fitted an 1800, plus retaining the ECU, loom and flywheel. The only item I changed were the injectors. Seems to work fine. Malcolm
  11. I run without the foam, but no signs of cracking....yet! Malcolm

  13. Danny My CC build manual for de dion 1994 vintage cars states the correct gearbox is the XR4i, Ford part number 1645418. There is no statement of the ratios. Malcolm

  20. Rob I think you mean ''you're'' But that doesn't answer the query....... Malcolm
  21. Rob: ''if all your oil is in the engine an none in your bulk supply tank then no oil will be fed back to the oil pump and be pumped around the engine until such time that the scavenge pump has been able to shift enough oil into the bulk tank to get above the outlet and feed the engine pressure pump.'' Isn't that the point for cranking the engine (with plugs out and crank sensor disconnected) until you achieve pressure? ''Because oil putting 4l into a dry sumped engine will result in the oil level being high enough to contact the pistons when the crank rotates '' With the wet sump set up with appollo (after oil / filter change both will be empty) one needs to add 7.5 litres, all into the engine. Surely there will be oil in conact with the pistons then? Should I be putting half in and cranking the engine to fill the appollo, then adding the remainder? No doubt I missing something here?
