  1. 1400ss TB/plenum appreciation society? 😬 Maybe it's worth keeping all the 1400ss bits, they will become increasingly rare as more and more cars are converted to 1800 with DTH TBs, aftermarket ECUs etc! In 10 - 15 years time a car with its original 1400ss engine complete with plenum, 55mm TB, complete with a six speed gearbox might be a collector's car. Who then, will be the first of us to convert their car back to 1400? 😬 Malcolm
  2. Mark Thanks for that! I was just about to go and measure a spare belt in the garage! Malcolm
  3. Rear discs are same as standard front ie Triumph, not Sierra.
  4. Dominic The correct Unipart belt for a 1400ss is GMV40750 Malcolm
  5. But make sure it's a 6 speeder, the 1400 SS with a standard ratios 5 speed is not well matched.... Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 21 Apr 2007 00:08:52
  6. Before the gearbox mount, and NM not LBSFT....
  7. 25 lb/ft.........thats what you told me 2 months ago
  8. Red SLR Please give me a ring 07774 634924 Malcolm
  9. Getting Dave Andrews to fettle the sump pick up to block oilway and flow the passages in the oil pump itself seemed to eliminate this delay on my apollo installation. But not the simplest of things to do unless reassembling an engine ❗ malcolm
  10. Tony Sounds a bit loose to me . I don't use a press to get them in or out, just a hammer and a spacer, but they are not as loose as you describe. Malcolm
  11. Mav I have a brand new unused bell tank (but without unions, pipes and tower) for sale if you want to save some dosh (CC will sell the rest of the kit without penalty). The purple pump was fitted to the 1400 and has a lower pumping capacity than the gold pump. I understand the purple is marginal for track use on 1600/1800. The bell tank is a neat installation, but has a lowish oil capacity. Some people also have been critical of the tower's ability to de-aerate the oil, compared to a larger separate tank. But then you won't have to worry about removing the passenger footwell. Malcolm
  12. Danny The MOT tester is simply wrong for pre 98 car. Kenrick's Llangollen did mine last week and we had a discussion on this very subject. Smoke test regardless whether factory or kit built. Find another tester. Malcolm
  13. ChrisL If you blat mail me I'll email you back with a photo of the modified sump gasket. Malcolm
  14. Will the MAC increase the entries this year? If not, will they allow those without an entry to run on their member's day, like last year? Malcolm
  15. Ken I have some used red bushes, if that's any help. I'm afraid all my ARBs are narrow track. 07774634924 Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 31 Mar 2007 13:03:17
  16. Tom Ignore it and concentrate on enjoying the new engine!
  17. Ken I spoke with Freestyle about this very thing recently as I am thinking of buying an adjustable ARB. Gary May advised me that the fully stiff setting = red arb and the fully soft is very slightly stiffer than the orange arb. Malcolm
  18. Steve I'll probably be doing both Marsall's sprints. You probably know the May event is the 10th Anniversary and is a 3 lap event. This event was poorly supported last year and was close to minimum entry and was nearly cancelled. So, the more the better! malcolm
  19. Cashing the cheque and taking 3-4 weeks to send the goods seems exceptionally poor service to me
  20. Peter Thanks, I'll order a new set of O rings. I've mounted the catch tank low down in the chassis in front of the drivers footwell in the washer bottle mount, with the tank venting via a pipe under the car.
  21. I have recently installed a DS system on my 1800 K, and find if I thrash the engine it blows oil from the conning tower filler cap/dipstick. I have maintained the oil level slightly low to see if this helps, and minimal oil goes into the catch tank. I have dismantled the cap and checked the o rings. The bleed outlet to the catch tank is tight, but the top with the dip rotates ( which I think it's supposed to do) but seems a poor fit and I think this is where the leak is, instead of blowing into catch tank. Is this normal? Should I expect the system to be oil tight, or is it a case of TADT sir? Is the belltank pressurising? (engine running sealed).
