  1. Flymo Keeping up the stanadards - that depends on whether you are able to refit the driveshafts. Sneaky new diff ratio and LSD eh? Happy New Year Malcolm
  2. Best long term solution( probably no help as you've already fitted the gearbox ) is to ask BGH Geartec to fit their bespoke lid with a filler/dipstick and to fit an oil drain in the underside of the tail housing. Makes future draining and refilling a 10min job Malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 3 Jan 2009 18:22:15
  3. neil doesn't need to be horizontal and if everything is undone (have you undone the bearing carrier?) it will simply pull out of the diff and withdraw the DS through the de dion ear. Give me a ring (07774634924)if you can't do it malcolm Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 3 Jan 2009 09:19:23
  4. Depends whether you wants to risk failing scrutineering and wasting your time and entry fee Malcolm
  5. A wet sump gasket trimmed to the dry sump flange works well, is leak free and is reuseable.
  6. Dave So after your outing at Harewood this year, are you not going to run the 1400 and have a crack at class1? Malcolm
  7. I had a front L side leak from the cam cover gasket, and the oil ran down the front and side of the engine, so worth a check. Not as bad a leak as compared to when the front oil seal poped out Malcolm
  8. When you have it out modify the fuel filler hole by removing the part that goes between the filler and the rear skin. Makes for easier removal and fitting, the cost is loss of some rear impact protection for the filler neck. Malcolm
  9. Dave Fitting the over-slung ARB is greatly eased if you remove the boot floor first
  10. You should be able to source original equipment through your motor factor, and will be cheaper than CC, but I'd agree not to purchase a cheaper equivalent.....learn't that lesson with oil seals 😳
  11. I've been disappointed with AVO as their service life is short, and need to be refurbished frequently as they start to leak.... ☹️
  12. Angus This is the situation I was faced with ( after grinding the bearing carrier off as it wouldn't come off the driveshaft). I used a dremel with a thin hard cutting disk and cut 2 slots at 180 opposite each other 9/10th through the inner race, and then used a hammer and chisel to finally split it off the driveshaft. Go carefully with the cutting disk to avoid going all the way through and damaging the driveshaft. Malcolm
  13. Angus Same happened to me, I replaced both rear wheel bearing 2 years ago and the n/s failed at 65mph on the A5 near Betws y Coed last July.....heart stopping moment as the car tried to jump into the hedge As Rob says, a faulty batch, apparently. The bearing welded itself onto the drive shaft and I had to cut the bearing and carrier off. I shall replace the potentially faulty off side bearing this winter. Malcolm
  14. Michael As discussed on Sunday, what are the ET and backdepth diamensions on your new 2.5/5" MBs? thanks Malcolm
  15. Yes, loads of dust. 'Fit for purpose' springs to mind.....Piper not interested and state 10k miles is the expected life of the items. (although not published to customers) Edited by - Englishmaninwales on 26 Nov 2008 13:49:21
  16. Thanks eveyone. These are the older red anodised ones..... ☹️
  17. I was a bit surprised to find there was between 0.008 and 0.009" wear across the top of the teeth, the exhaust side worse. Is this normal or is this caused by over/under tensioning the belt? Or just cr@p metal? The engine is 1800ss and has done 15k miles over 2 years use. Malcolm
  18. Got my 1800ss engine onto the stand yesterday to start prepping for next year, and I was a bit surprised to find there was between 0.008 and 0.009 in wear across the top of the teeth, the exhaust side worse. Is this normal or is this caused by over tensioning the belt? Or just cr@p metal? The engine has done 15k miles over 2 years use. Malcolm
  19. What's the difference between a VHPD and MS2 VHPD cylinderhead, and is there a casting identification? Malcolm
  20. Gnasher2 BaT did a beginners day on the Coastal circuit at Anglesey last Easter. My son did his first TD and throughly enjoyed it without feeling pressured. This was an OPL format, within instruction available. Worth keeping an eye on their calender Malcolm
  21. Roger I went to great lengths to get the seal level (as the old ones were fitted) only to have the bearing fail within 5 k miles (bad batch, apparently) and destroy the bearing carrier. The new fully assembled bearing carrier from CC had the pre installed seals driven into the stop leaving the gap....seems to work ok with no grease leak ❗ Malcolm
  22. Dumb question....what's the difference between a VHPD head and MS2 VHPD, and is there a casting identification? thanks Malcolm
