  1. Ok I've stepped back into history, moved away from Emeralds, 3D mapping, TBs, and fuel injection to a glorious sounding twincam in my Lotus Elan. BUT I need some help from the dark side from those of you with oily crossflows and prehaps even the odd twincam powered 7. Can I use standard unleaded? Do I need some additives? The engine was rebuilt less than 5k miles ago but in 1991. There is no way I can tell if the valve seats were changed (or indeed if they even needed to be changed for unleaded). I can check the static timing ( I forgotton about things like the timing light buried in my garage store!) - any idea what the static timing should be for unleaded? Should I use expensive Shell unleaded?
  2. Allen I'll fit the inlet / plenum and measure up Thanks
  3. I'm looking for a forward support leg for the 1400 k supersport plenum/inlet manifold. Thanks
  4. Back cover - best closed with anaerobic or RTV silicone type flange sealant? Vent tube - Inserted dry or with sealant? Thanks Malcolm
  5. Quoting Fred Gassit: Question that has been bothering me: Do the organisers just drag the wreckage to the entrance and dump it at the road side? No. My shunt at Anglesey took me off to hospital. Other competitors arranged getting the car onto the trailer (not easy on 3 wheels 😶‍🌫️). The organisers could not have been more helpful in securing 7, trailer and tow car in a locked pit garage overnight. They then arranged access for me to the circuit the following day to collect. In the situation of not having a trailer, as Mark says, people will pull out the stops to get you home
  6. I got them from the plumbing section in B&Q
  7. Ive bought wings/nose cone from Dartford Composites previously. I found they are a good fit and reasonably priced, but the f/g lay up is very thin. In my view they are suitable for racing or hillclimbing but they will not last long on the roads.
  8. As Shaun suggests. However, if you are going to continue to compete, I would suggest you put the refurbish on hold until you decide to stop. I refurbished mine with a full strip, repanelled new paint etc., then only a year later I put it into a tyre wall at considerable speed, with the car requiring a big rebuild...... Also, I see you mention a rollbar (and I guess you are using a petty strut too). If you want to spend money now I suggest it is well spent on a SLR type cage, far safer and you can sell it on when you stop. When you ultimately refurbish the repanelling will delete the cage holes in the side skins. Hope that helps! Malcolm
  9. I ve also upgraded by way of a new long front. An expensive change unless one has already rearranged the front end by way of a tyre wall or such ☹️
  10. You can use some small washers between the rivet and nose of the riveter
  11. I ll take the front wing stays if Roger doesnt want them
  12. I wouldn't bother, Jon, they wont make you go any faster at Harewood, especially as you' ll still miss a gear up the hill into Quarry ........ 😳 Good luck at Loton this weekend Malcolm
  13. Paul (Provided ignition is on!!) I had this and turned out to be a faulty ECU-PC connecting lead. If so don't buy a new one - Maplins sell the identical wire and easy to solder up a new one.
  14. Sorry, although progress has been made on the rebuild, it is unlikely to be finished then ☹️
  15. David Given all the aggro, especially if you have a race chassis without a removeable crossmember, it might be easier lift the cylinder head off and do it on the bench? Malcolm
  16. Hi Steve I'll take them both off you. YHM Malcolm
  17. I have a spare used one, not sure if Racetech or Lifeline. I'll dig it out and blatmail you. Malcolm
  18. I have one, no cut out and in British Racing Green. Has 2 small dents which would easily repair if you are planning to re-paint. Otherwise serviceable and located in North Wales. Malcolm
  19. It works fine, enables easy airlock free coolant refills but is expensive. Otherwise I'm not sure it has any advantages over the standard thermostat.
