  1. The flat chassis tab in the centre of the picture, nearside rear wheel arch? 1994 Universal dedion chassis. Thanks, Malcolm
  2. Rob, I changed from Speed Nat A to Speed Nat B this year and I was assured one does not require the signatures again to change back. Malcolm

    Thanks

A big thank you to everyone who helped trying to fix my car, especially Dave Gemzoe for getting under the car to diagnose a dead fuel pump (although I’m not sure about the suggestion from the former Club Chairman about taking a 12v supply for the pump from the brake lights!) A big thank you also to Dan for the loan of his car with its ’new’ engine...I especially liked the new colour scheme! Malcolm
  4. My 1400 SS EU1 (I believe you are correct) had the smaller sump to engine fittings and I had to drill out the sump holes. If you have a later sump with M8 drillings it is just a matter of sourcing the correct length M8 caphead bolts. Make sure the two rear fixings are the correct length. (The 2 horizontal sump to bellhousing are unaffected). I fitted the complete 1400 SS induction system with stepper motor TB, engine loom and ECU to my 1800. The only change was increased capacity injectors (cream) and the system works fine. I pretty sure there are differences/problems if you try to fit an EU2 engine loom to the earlier Caterham loom. The gearbox first motion shaft requires careful measurement and cutting. Correct flywheel needed to suit ECU as above. Difficult running/idle in a 1400 ss is usually caused by a worn TPS, sticking stepper motor gears (needs clean and lubrication) or faults in the TB engine loom extension (check the multi connector plug, TPS and stepper connectors). If you have no further use for the new TPS (JZX) I would be interested in buying it! Malcolm
  5. Anyhow Tom, it all looks far too clean and shiny for a 20+ year old car, so it deserves some grease splatters!
  6. I'm looking for 2 Loton guest season passes - if anyone has these left over from yesterday and are unwanted, I can use them for the British Hill Champs later this summer. Thanks Malcolm
  7. Stu, I thought your engine failure was due to a lack of oil rather than a dead scavenge pump
  8. ‘Clucking’ and K series DS system. Take a look in the archives, there’s loads on this. It really depends upon the engine ventilation setup and a lack of ‘clucking’ does not necessarily mean a poor performing scavenge pump. But given the relative low cost of refurbishing the pump, as others have already said, it’s worth getting it done, especially if it’s age/mileage is unknown. Malcolm
  9. David It was a challenge, but go to Competitors > Hall of Fame > Records to 2015 > link is at the bottom of the page. Malcolm
  10. Jon you are welcome to leave it here LL16 4EU if that helps. I ve sent you a PM. Malcolm
  11. Dan, you have a PM for your address. I recall 2 occasions with difficult running, one was a dead TPS and the other responded to cleaning and lubricating the gears in the TB stepper motor drive. Malcolm
  12. Danny, Tried swapping the ECU ? - I can send you my EU1 spare if you need one. Malcolm edit to add I guess you have checked the vacuum from TB to ECU and the flame trap?
  13. Mike, I would sack your car engineer. He really must learn how to attach the fuel rail to the injectors.......Jolly scary at the time, though!
  14. Michael, I know not a standard sump but UK Ford engines of pre crossflow and crossflow type used American NPTF pipe threads (but 1/4 is small for a sump plug - this size is used in the oil gallery plugs). They are however very close to BSP threads, I think 19 v 20 TPI or similar. But I’m not sure if that helps?
  15. I had a quote once when I was competing in someone else’s car. It was prohibitively expensive, similar to Chris’ post above, £100 with about a £2000 excess with the engine and transmission excluded.
  16. Clive, I use it to set the idle mixture on the carbs on my Elan, works well. Malcolm
  17. rj, SLR cage for my ‘94 car was made by Caged Laser https://www.cagedlaser.co.uk/wp/ Malcolm
  18. Last of the Lifeline 2017 stock with 6mm tubing. 2018 (onwards) stock is 8 mm.
  19. Thanks, Paul, I’ll give them a ring. My information above was the result of trying to buy a new cylinder from Demon Tweeks last week.
  20. Lifeline cylinders need servicing every two years and cannot be serviced beyond 10 years. If your system is plumbed in, Lifeline have conveniently changed the diameter of the pipes ( for improved performance) so the new cylinders don’t fit the old pipes, and no step adapter is supplied. Whole new system needed or fit a hand held. At least I have a nice big cylinder for my workshop.
  21. See #64 - James states that he is not making any further comments. Malcolm
