  1. OMG not the EP90 v grease discussion again....
  2. #7 Thank you, John. I can see that will make the task much easier. Malcolm
  3. Agreed about extraction and recovery, but It was slightly tongue in cheek, as I suspect they'd never trust the competitors!
  4. Do you think competitors could be trusted to 'self certify' scrutineering checks on personal safety equipment, thus avoiding handling of equipment? (I know the risk is likely to be low, but one must consider the 'confidence factor' when a stranger has a contact with the inside of my helmet looking for the safety standard sticker). malcolm
  5. Two things to consider - try replacing the HT coil, if it is old it may fail when hot. Make sure you get one with the correct voltage rating (there may be a ballast resistor) otherwise it will kill an electronic ignition unit (guess how I know!) Hot starting can be improved with a wide open throttle. The pedal must be depressed to WOT slowly so not to activate the Weber acc pump jets and flood the engine. Malcolm
  6. Not sure what the current CC supplied fuse box is now, but consider some tape over the relays for security; mine had a tendency to drop into the passenger footwell after a curb or two...
  7. Hard pushed to get 200 bhp out of a VVC, especially on a plenum. Looks like Douglas Valley is back with his old b@llocks and wishful prices.
  8. The reason why the chassis lug is orientated that way on older chassis (mine is 1994) is that they were originally for the pre S Type seat mount bracket. Malcolm
  9. From what I recall (before I removed and dispensed with the rear arb altogether) the 'over the top' arb is close to the central rib on the diff. I filed a bit off the diff.
  10. David You could use a plug compatible Emerald, keeping the original EU1 loom, remove the gear cogs/ innards of the idle stepper (to prevent any inadvertent activity when powered up) and set the idle on your TB spindle set screw. Check the TPS is working (the wiring inside corrodes). Obviously you'll need a rolling road session cost to factor in. (I've not actually done this, so it's abit of guess work, there maybe someone along to correct me!) Alternatively there was a recent thread about fixing the EU1 stepper motor circuit board. Finally, I was able to get a brand new old stock EU1 TB on eBay, they do come up from time to time. Malcolm
  11. Yes the Merlin supplied pump is slightly wider than the plastic cradle, and I modified mine to fit.
  12. Come on guys, keep your virus conversations on the appropriate thread. Got to put the engine back in and fit a nice new Schroth 6 pointer. Malcolm
  13. The drain is in the aluminium sandwich plate, giving about a 90 - 95% oil drain.
  14. It is possible with care to remove the top cover, however, you are working blind for some of the bolt removal / refitting. The important / difficult bit is relocating the selector plate in the slot in the lid Just done this on another car, it's a bit of a pain, slow, but doable. My car has a drain and a top cover filler fitted with a cap / dipstick, fitted by BGH at a previous rebuild, and I can highly recommend both.
  15. Thanks, yes I went for that in the end, my local trailer dealer said that's what they use.
  16. I need to top up the tilt bed hydraulic reservoir, will Halford's jack oil suffice? BJ spares list doesn't show it (plus I've had my fingers burnt before with their prices!) Thanks
  17. You are also "modifying" the primary safety system (albeit with good intent) away from the manufacturers design. Have you advised your insurers of these mods? All I do at insurance renewal is attach a list of all modifications and changes to the car, including items such as brake pad material and brake fluid, plus get a confirmation of receipt. Over kill maybe, but the insurance company have never objected (but I haven't made a claim either!) Malcolm.
  18. CC parts previously indicated the narrow portion in the shoulder straps will allow a better fit on a HANS. CC also said have stopped selling the Luke 6 point (some old stock for the SV is left) due to Luke not applying for FIA Approval on the latest 6 point version. Has anybody fitted this specific one from CC, as I need a new set? Presumably this season Acadamy cars have this fitted. (apologies for thread hijack) Malcolm.
  19. Caterham also supply a complete 6 point Schroth https://caterhamparts.co.uk/seatbelts-harnesses/6490-schroth-6pt-rh-kit.html Not clear if this is the same?
  20. Thank you for your work Andrew, as always very interesting.
  21. Paul, I've run the QED remote for over 10 years with no problems whatsoever, rock solid temperatures. Added bonus is it makes coolant refills and avoidance of air locks easy. Downside is the price (I was lucky to get one second hand). Requires a small amount of plumbing work. Malcolm
