  1. Please could you add a side view showing the exhaust. Thanks Jonathan
  2. PS: I recommend putting the question in your blog in the TechTalk forum. Jonathan
  3. I have a large collection of Assembly Guides, Handbooks, wiring diagrams etc. Please send me a Private Message with your email address. Jonathan
  4. John: Do you have the information on where to look for the resistor and how to recognise it? I'll find it if you don't. Thanks Jonathan
  5. Clutch. Transmission tunnel cover. Jonathan
  6. Please can you add photos of the face (to identify the type) and the rear (so that we can look for switches and settings). Thanks Jonathan
  7. Some have switches that allow setting for number of cylinders and whether there is lost spark ignition. These are often inline switches on the back of the instrument. If that is the problem then the indication will blip up and down nicely even though the numbers are wrong. Jonathan
  8. Does the indication move at all when you blip the throttle? Does it drop to zero with the ignition on and the engine stopped? All other instruments now OK and the instrument lights working? ... There's not much that you can adjust... check the connections on the instrument and to the ECU. Jonathan
  9. Thanks for adding the update. Jonathan
  10. Thanks. Recommendations on diagnosis unchanged. Jonathan
  11. "Second problem is the oil pressure gauge. It's reading around 2 bar with no ignition. When I turn on ignition the gauge cycles through 0 and then settles at full deflection 8 bar. I haven't yet started the engine but cranking over with no fuel added yet gauge still reads 8 bar." IIRC on modern Sevens they go full scale and back when the ignition is turned on. But I haven't got a modern Seven to play with... anyone? If you disconnect the battery does it show 2 bar or zero? Locate the sensor and disconnect the signal wire. What does the gauge show? Then touch the disconnected signal wire to a good earth such as the engine block. What does the gauge show? Jonathan
  12. "firstly neither front indicators are working. Rears and side repeaters are both OK. The don't wok on the Hazard light switch either. I am stumped to think why both sides wouldn't work!" First checks: Are the bulbs working? Is the feed in the lampholders coming up to 12 V when they're on? Are the earths in the lampholders doing what they should? Check resistance to a good earth, not just continuity. If you haven't got a multimeter (yet) then jump a wire from that side of the lampholder to a good earth and see if that makes a difference. Jonathan
  13. Welcome. Do you have a multimeter? And a wiring diagram? If you'd like the appropriate version please send me a Private Message with your email address. Jonathan
  14. The relevant section of the MoT inspection manual. Are the indicator lamps amber? Do the position lamps (side lamps) stay on? (I can't spot a non-compliance from what you've told us.) Jonathan
  15. Once that's sorted you have several options to make it easy next time: change the type of bolt (as you say), weld the nuts in the runners... and probably some others. Jonathan
  16. It's a well-known problem with a lot of solutions in the archives. From your current position: if you can't wedge the head with a screwdriver then cut a transverse slot in the free end of the bolt (eg with a cutting disc in a Dremel) and use a screwdriver in that to hold the bolt still while you run the nut down. Jonathan
  17. Discussion from 2021 including what Banner say. Jonathan
  18. Typically 2 mm. Here's a 3 mm hole in a K thermostat (thanks, Ian): Jonathan
  19. Is that one of these: Powerlite Lithium Ion 12 Ampere Battery? Thanks Jonathan
  20. Sounds great. Thanks for sharing. Our last tour crossed yours at Basel and Andermatt, although it wasn't in a Seven. And we didn't have a dog. We nipped out of Switzerland several times for campsites, meals and to buy food! On the photos: There are three ways of posting images: two by uploading them to this site, and one by linking to them on another site eg Dropbox. They're all described in the Forum User Guide: https://www.lotus7.club/forum/chitchat/forum-user-guide Most Members now use the shortcut upload, as suggested by Ian above: https://www.lotus7.club/comment/2252151#comment-2252151 That's quick and comparatively easy, but it does limit the resolution of the image. Not usually a problem for photos but can be for screen dumps, images of documents etc. The other two methods don't have that limitation. Please let me know if you need any help or want to practise. Jonathan
  21. The explanation is linked in post #4 above. Jonathan
  22. Andrew Revill did some measurements of drain. It would be great to have more, and I suspect that there are systematic variations between models. And that these affect the conclusions that have been drawn about batteries and the need for chargers and for isolation switches. Jonathan PS: For typical car batteries the battery voltage at rest is a rather insensitive measure of residual energy. Load testing is better. And the only convenient load that most of us have is a starter... ... Previous discussion of drain: /forum/techtalk/how-guide-investigate-parasitic-drain includes Andrew's conclusions on Ks, and Roger Ford's method of measurement.
  23. Recent discussion of experiences with different batteries. Current (!) discussion of best practice with master switches. Jonathan
