What's the voltage across the battery at rest, and the minimum when cranking? Check all of the relevant cables and connections: battery, starter, engine earths. Try jump starting it from another vehicle, engine at 3,000 rpm, fat cables. Jonathan
Do you want the socket near the dash or in the boot? And do you have a multimeter? Jonathan PS: Most people who use the socket to leave a charger plugged in have it permanently connected to the battery, not switched with the ignition.
Installing a socket: • Do you want it switched with the ignition or always on (as above)? • Check the fusing as above. (I'll see if I can identify your layout tomorrow.) • It used to be easy... fit a cigar lighter socket. But do you also want one or more USB sockets? And a digital voltmeter? If fitting USB sockets in order to charge devices I strongly recommend finding some that will give the maximum 2.1 A. Jonathan
Finding them: some Sevens seem to have them installed, others don't. If you do find some spare wiring in the boot check that it is the accessory power feed and not the high-level brake light feed. The colours will distinguish them, then you can confirm this with a meter. Jonathan
Colours: N = Brown. Because too many colours begin with B! The full set of abbreviations. "Standard" functions: Caterham usually adhere to the "standard" British colours for functions. Jonathan
Thanks: hadn't heard that about the warranty before. "Will have another read of the coolant threads after a couple of wines tonight!" I recommend... red. : - ) Jonathan
When it's sorted please could you add the photo, the part number and the terminal identifiers to this thread. Thanks Jonathan PS: There are at least three layouts of relays on Sigma-engined Sevens. I have all of these for anyone who wants them... but not the types...
Image showing fine. There are now three methods for showing images inline: linking to them on another server, the shortcut upload (blue above), and the original upload (yellow above). The shortcut upload is quick and now widely used, but it automatically limits the resolution: not a problem for most images but can make eg text unreadable. The original image was on Microsoft OneDrive. For most external servers there's a way of finding the URL of the image without all of the navigation elements needed in albums and galleries. I add the workflow for these to the Forum User Guide thread. But this one defeated me, so I had to download and upload. Jonathan PS: Standing offer to help anyone with image management on this site.
Pretty similar to the 6 speed. Biggest problem is removing the filler plug with the restricted space to the adjacent panel. Check if someone has made an access hole. I use a stub of hex key with a ratchet spanner that can be reversed with a little lever. The wonderful Alcester Racing Sevens notes were on the Wayback Machine but now I can't find them... Jonathan
"My car won't start as the fuel pump isn't working but the pump itself is okay" The pump runs when its given its own test feed and earth? Any recent work on the car? Can you hear any clicks when you turn the ignition ON? Then I'd test whether it's the feed or earth that has a problem. Disconnect the pump from its connectors. Ignition ON. With a multimeter test in the car side of the connector whether you have 12 V on the appropriate pin and a good earth on the other. Please let me know if you'd like any wiring diagrams. Jonathan
This has come up in multiple threads so I'll keep it short. I wouldn't want to use a suboptimal coolant in the engine. I'm not convinced that coolant other than "blue" is responsible for the reported leaks in Radtec radiators. Jonathan
"I cant attach pictures here like I can on all my other forms." There are three methods: two for uploading and one for outlinking to photos on another server. They're all described in the Forum User Guide. If you'd like to practise please let me know and we can have a play in the Test area. Jonathan
"Just been looking at Moris for Track Day cover - anyone used them...?" I do:
