    Battery

I try to keep two threads up to date with specifications, prices and experiences: "What's the best battery these days?" "Li ion batteries" Jonathan
  2. Which model of Seven? And does it have one or two telltale warning lights for the indicators? Jonathan
  3. Suggested settings are in the Assembly Guide. Table 28 in your copy. Jonathan
  4. Do you have some fat jump leads and another vehicle or battery? Jonathan
  5. Multimeter set to 20 V DC or similar. Check the battery voltage at rest, and the minimum as you try to start. Jonathan PS: Would you like a wiring diagram?
  6. Thanks for adding the solution. Jonathan
  7. Welcome. Do you have a multimeter? Would you like the wiring diagram? Have any lamps been swapped from incandescent to LED? Jonathan PS: I'll suggest some ideas on diagnosis after today's walk.
  8. Discussion of causes and suggestions on diagnosis. Jonathan
  9. Thanks And what type of Seven? And if it's pre-K what ignition sytem? Jonathan
  10. How is the power supplied? Jonathan
  11. "The 32mm plug (blue, probably) retains the finger filter. The sump plug is the other side of the sump (15mm), and rather than a washer, it has a rubber seal under the head." Jonathan
  12. Not much in the archives: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site:caterhamlotus7.club+locking+wheel+nuts but a few references to McGard: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site:caterhamlotus7.club+mcgard+nuts Jonathan PS: Just in case anyone doesn't know: there are safety precautions with wheel nuts. Enough thread needs to be engaged, and if the nuts are closed then the stud mustn't bottom out. These are particularly relevant to Sevens because of the range of components and interesting histories of some cars. (Antony and Cleopatra, innit?)
  13. Previous discussions and opinions. Jonathan
  14. It's often called kangaroo or, as an ironic joke, kangaroo petrol. Previous discussions... and there's a long list of possible causes including cable runs, sensor problems and engine maps. Jonathan
  15. The factory recommendation in the Owner's Handbook is MOTUL Inugel Optimal. (Please let me know if you'd like a copy.) Before that it was "Red antifreeze or Ford Super Plus Anti-freeze". Comma Xstream G30 and Comma Super Longlife Red are both ethylene glycol coolants with OATs. Jonathan
  16. Wheel balance weight? Speedometer sensor? Jonathan
  17. I'm wary of diverting For Sale threads. I'll pick this up elsewhere. Jonathan
  18. You're not alone: /forum/chitchat/petty-strut-again Jonathan
  19. "The next challenge will be lining up the Petty Strut to the mounting holes, as a "dry fit" looks like the chassis mounting hole is about 5mm off center, so guess I'll have to loosen the roll bar bolts to get some additional play...grrrr!!!" Is that lateral... if the roll bar is nicely positioned already could you pack the strut with washers? Jonathan
  20. So I'd start by having a look at that female thread... is it nice and clean or does it have paint or swarf up it? Jonathan
  21. The 2015 Assembly Guide has 7/16" bolt (fastener pack ZPS01 Item 2). I can''t find any note on changes from a quick search of the archives: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site:caterhamlotus7.club+petty+bolt Jonathan
  22. I used steel angle, probably something like 40 x 40 x 5mm. 1m might be a bit short. And I drilled it so that I could fix it on the studs with nuts. Jonathan PS: Check that you're forcing the car into the ground rather than lifting it off the stands, the LH nut has a LH thread, some now need a 42 rather than a 41 mm socket, and sockets and torque wrenches are available in the Equipment Register.
