  1. What are the internal dimensions, please? Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 21 Jan 2012 17:04:16
  2. Nail polish remover used to be acetone, sometimes with a few additives. The over the counter stuff isn't based on acetone any more. I thought the change was to avoid sniffing, but Wikipedia suggests it was because acetone removed artificial nails. It also says that most of it is now based on ethyl acetate. That wouldn't be anywhere near as effective for workshop purposes. Remember not to get acetone near valuable plastics etc. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 21 Jan 2012 11:59:41
  3. But Google is there to help... Link Another link Jonathan
  4. Ground clearance? Jonathan
  5. Quoting BenF: If Caterham changed their advice (and said don't fit it), then wouldn't they be liable for claims from people who had suffered engine damage as a result of the foam breaking up? Not necessarily. But if it could be shown that they knew of a problem and didn't tell customers it would count strongly against them in a claim for damages. They have to comply with UK contract law and EU regulations (which drive quite a lot of car recalls) but even apart from statute law they have to act in good faith and reasonably. I don't know if there have been relevant recent cases about cars. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 19 Jan 2012 22:15:16
  6. Could you try one of those listening things that doctors use... perhaps it would be best to stick to Shanks' pony until it's sorted out... Jonathan
  7. SM25T, you don't know what you've started... Is this a new machine and could the noise come from the interstellar overdrive? Jonathan
  8. Quoting Colin Cooper: I realy tried not to go the bolt route, but after the left had to be retained by a tiewrap on the 50th around Hethel, the right tied to the roll bar back from Cornwall a few months later- then the left again back from Goodwood, it had to be done. I spent a lot of time scraping the old stuff off and prepairing the underside prior to resealing, eventually to no avail. I even complained to Caterham re the first failiure, but didnt get a reply. Col Did you have adhesive all the way round the stay, or only as a sandwich? Jonathan
  9. Sounds like progress. Has the battery lost so much charge playing that it can light up the electrics but can't start the engine. What's the voltage drop on cranking? Jonathan
  10. I bought mine from Classic Silicone Hoses, and was very pleased. The clamps they supplied were the same as the original from Caterham, and have worked fine. Jonathan
  11. There's lots on this in the archives. Some of the points that come up: * Preparation of surfaces before the adhesive is applied. Otherwise your weakest bond is metal to paint... * Looping the Sikaflex all the way round the stay to make a tube, rather than just making a sandwich. Jonathan
  12. Yes: you can see when it's working. Jonathan
  13. Quoting simonpa: Trying to reverse copy from an ipod is a nightmare as all the filenames are changed and it keeps the original naming in a database (ish). However, I've used MediaMonkey to download from an ipod before.. I've think you've got two problems: 1 Finding and reading the files: advice as in the thread above. 2 Getting the music organised as you want it. That's why I asked about iTunes. Simon has described some of this problem. If you want to do this the iTunes way and you've solved the first problem it might be easier to ask iTunes to read the whole disc/ partition/ appropriate folders and do the work of finding and making a library of the music for you. On iTunes for OS X this is done by "File" then "Add to Library... " Could someone post the similar actions for Windows 7 Professional. Good luck Jonathan
  14. What OS are you using on the laptop? Are you trying to do this the Apple way, using iTunes, or some other way? Jonathan
  15. Could the hole become a feature, following good DIY practice? Anything you could usefully attach there? Jonathan
  16. Torx dimensions Jonathan
  17. Just had a look at the Jubilee web site. They do specify torque settings but I have no idea how they compare to what feels right by hand. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 7 Jan 2012 15:19:48
  18. I'm not an expert on this. Whenever tightening silicone hoses comes up on BC: * Some people have no problems with leaks, others do * People extol band-type clips over those with line or thread contact * Lubrication is thought to be a good thing I don't think I've ever seen quantitative torque settings specified. Jonathan
  19. As above, but are you sure there isn't a public sector worker trapped in the nosecone? Jonathan
  20. Classic Silicone Hoses Highly recommended Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 5 Jan 2012 18:41:56
  21. What Ian says about modes. So it's worth learning the switch sequence that resets them. Jonathan
  22. B and Q cheapest. Some last well, some don't. If they are hard to access I suggest putting a waterproof plug and socket in the cable near the light so you can do all the fiddly wiring somewhere convenient rather than when you're up a ladder. Jonathan
  23. Quoting Titanium7: Use some clear silicon {PedantMode ON} That might be bit rigid. Try silicone. I try hard not to do this, but I've been sensitised by recent journalistic reports about breast implants. {PedantMode OFF} Jonathan
  24. Before doing that I suggest you take a piece of wire and make a good earth connection from the bulbholder to chassis or battery earth. If it works then but not otherwise it's an earth problem, if it doesn't work then it's something completely different. Jonathan
