  1. Quoting pug7: thaks for the replies - its not the getting the fluid in thats the problem, im struggling to get a small plastic tube into the fill holw to try to fill it ! The centreline casting mark of geardbox (Standard 5 speed) is centered to within 0.5mm of the casis frames so pretty central - but a right squeeze to get anywhere near the hole thank god i loosened it when gearbox was out. ... but you have the clearance to remove the filler plug OK? How much clearance do you have between the face of the hole and the tunnel? Quoting pug7: round two this morning.....along with trying to work out why the side lights/full lights switch works, the headlamp flasher switch works full beam lights flash, but full beam switch doesnt... That sounds like the switch. Can you get the leads off the switch and test it with another switch? But of course it could be cables. Where do the leads from the flasher switch and the full beam switch join up... is it near the switches or near/ at the relay? Have a good morning. Jonathan
  2. Other options include taking the lid off or fitting a lid with a filler. There's usually enough room to get a pipe down: is your gearbox central, or in any way unusual? Jonathan
  3. Haven't seen a paper version for years. Do they still offer a CD version? Jonathan
  4. *arrowup* They didn't include that when we were taught about what happens in labour. ;-) Someone on BC might have some props doing nothing... Jonathan
  5. I thought you knew a lot about them. :-) The risk seems to be low, but no-one will quantify it for you. How about adding a few props under the exposed joists and go for it? If you can get those directly under the pool you should be well within limits. Jonathan
  6. Are the undersides of the joists visible from the garage? Jonathan
  7. Do birthing pools come with instructions on how to spread the load across several joists, or beams in the base to do that? Jonathan
  8. Interesting comparisons. Pressure isn't really the key metric, unless the failure mode is puncturing the floor locally. The failure modes of breaking a joist or dislodging a joist from its footing would depend on load and distance from fixing, as already pointed out. Jonathan
  9. Difficult now you've thought about isn't it? 730kg is roughly 9 adult Britons. Add the weight of the midwife and anyone else who might join in. Would you be happy to have 11 people standing in that area? I can't find any reports of floors giving way. I'd conclude that it's very unlikely to cause any damage if the floor is in good nick, and then put the pool downstairs. Hope it all goes well. Jonathan
  10. Yes, earth potential should be the same everywhere, but I'm not yet convinced by your electrolytic theory, and would like to remove some variables... Jonathan
  11. Quoting Myles: I measured the volts at the fan when I got back (engine running) and it was actually higher than st the battery!!! I've seen this before and can only guess that I've electrolytic corrosion going on between the rad and chassis!!! Was that using the same earth point for both tests? Jonathan
  12. I was thinking more of inhalation than education. Unless you're working on a diesel engine... :-) Jonathan
  13. Quoting Dignity: Oops sorry John I thought this was a post requesting Amyl Nitrate As the weekend's coming up can I just remind you all that it's amyl nitrite you're thinking of... Jonathan
  14. I would guess: * For many cars the bleed tees will make filling and bleeding easier * For some cars it won't remove the need to massage the big hoses at the bottom to get the air out I've never understood the reported diversity of behaviour across cars. Jonathan
  15. Do you have a manual? What are common faults for this sort of kit... dodgy switches, cracked wiring near terminals, failed components on PCBs... Switches: Good dose of contact cleaner, check connectivity after throwing them a few times. Is there anywhere very near the generator itself that can you can get a voltage reading, upstream of as many switches, breakers etc as possible? Usual safety warnings. Jonathan
  16. Use a GPS device to get true values. Then Letraset to add a few marks to the glass. Jonathan
  17. I had and loved a 1.6 GTi. If you drove one now with no nostalgia and no context how would it stack up against a modern cheap hot hatchback? Jonathan
  18. Multigrade oils still get thinner as temperature increases, just less than other oils, as in the picture. Jonathan
  19. :-) The hours I've spent going through ballpoints looking for the right size spring: most recently for a roller blind after the original had done the escape trick. But I bet there's someone out there who has little springs already sorted by size... Jonathan
  20. I'm going to have say it... Thomas is a tank engine, not a tank. Better now. Jonathan
  21. Set to "9 months"... I get 3 seconds What browser are you using? Try deleting caches in the browser... is it faster now? Jonathan
  22. *arrowup* Do you two do this professionally? :-) Jonathan
  23. "My big hen's gone" Jonathan
  24. I'd try it without a scoop. If the 'phone is hotter than the air then just stirring the air will cool the 'phone. Jonathan
