  1. What model of Seven? Which type of speedometer drive? Guide to Speedometers. Is the speed indication OK? Has it ever recorded distance correctly? Jonathan
  2. I'd start with Redline. Jonathan PS: Please could you add a photo to show the type.
  3. Thanks I'd get the alignment checked. Jonathan
  4. 1 Incandescant lamps or LEDs? 2 Do you have the wiring diagram and fuse layout, and if not would you like a copy? 3 Did you remove the fuse before doing the work? Check that it's there, seated and not blown 4 As above: Ignition ON then connect the two wires at the switch... do the lights come on? 5 Ignition ON: what's the voltage between the input side of the switch and a good earth? With the same setting what's the reading across the battery? 6 Ignition OFF: set the meter to some resistance range and measure the resistance across the switch with the plunger relaxed and then pressed. 7 While you're there watch the action of the pedal on the switch: does it look adequate? And does the switch feel smooth when you close it by hand? Jonathan
  5. "It's not getting power to the switch, so maybe just a fuse. Bypassing the switch directly brings the ights on." That's with a test jump wire to the lamp unit? Jonathan
  6. Well done. If the tracking is out you might get unnecessary tyre wear: how old are they? Jonathan
  7. "Is the problem experienced on old/new cars or both?" The crucial difference is whether the reversing light switch in the gearbox has one or two terminals. Jonathan
  8. Doh! Spare WHEEL! Sorry Jonathan
  9. Some dimensions. Jonathan
  10. "Is it simple plug and play?" It might not be. There's a possible problem with the switched-earth circuit of the reversing lights. Discussion with solutions. If you have a spare WHEEL (corrected) there's an extension available for the subloom. Jonathan
  11. There are three ways of posting images: two by uploading them to this site, and one by linking to them on another site eg Dropbox. They're all described in the Forum User Guide: https://www.lotus7.club/forum/chitchat/forum-user-guide Most Members now use the shortcut upload: https://www.lotus7.club/comment/2252151#comment-2252151 That's quick and comparatively easy, but it does limit the resolution of the image. Not usually a problem for photos but can be for screen dumps, images of documents etc. The other two methods don't have that limitation. Please let me know if you need any help or want to practise. Jonathan
  12. Please can you add a photo. Thanks Jonathan PS: Be prepared for recommendations to swap to a mechanical system...
  13. Power steering could affect this by including some damping and modern systems might also include some smart control stuff. But I suspect that the biggest reason that we suffer it on Sevens more than on production cars is the variability of Sevens that's produced by their history and their modifications. Perhaps we should think of each as a work in progress... Jonathan
  14. Have you found the diagrams in the Assembly Guide? I've just emailed the "standard" wiring colours. Jonathan
  15. "arvo"?? Afternoon: Australian English and rarely spotted elsewhere. Jonathan
  16. "There were several different Sierra diffs. I'll look up which the Seven uses if someone doesn't post it soon." Start here. Jonathan
  17. I've got the factory specs for a large number of Sevens, please let me know if you'd like the ones that are appropriate! Jonathan
  18. Paul Deslandes: "Measuring and Correcting Bump Steer on a Caterham 7 Using Cheap Home Made Gauges." But how about adding a nose-on camera-horizontal photo showing the angle of the track rods? Jonathan
  19. "Any advice welcome, and any tips and tricks for the change appreciated!" Detailed notes from Alcester Racing Sevens. (That's now on The Wayback Machine.) But I think that most of the points are now covered in this thread. There's a very large number of threads on this exact topic. Some notes on searching, as many of us can't find what we need using either of the site's two built-in search functions. I suggest trying the one that's in my Signature at the bottom of this post. Jonathan
  20. As above + ... on many Sevens you can cut an access hole in the transmission tunnel to give direct access to the plug. (On some there's a chassis member in the way.) ... if you use a ratchet wrench on the hex key stub make sure that it's the type that you reverse by moving a lever and not the type where you have to turn the handle over... I may have related this saga before... ; -( Jonathan
  21. Welcome. If one doesn't appear here you could see if yours can be repaired: "Speedometer and Instrument Repairs". Jonathan
  22. Lack of slack is just what many of us want in a Seven! But are you describing bump steer? Does it feel as if you have to correct the steering when you go over a bump? A common cause of this in Caterhams is inappropriate height of the steering rack. Roger Swift's Guide to Bump Steer, and some previous discussions. Jonathan
