  1. I have a 12 year old niece who lives in Chile. She's getting interested in photography. Does anyone have a used Canon digital SLR camera and lenses that they would like to sell? Thanks Jonathan
  2. Please use a carbon monoxide monitor if you do this or something similar. Jonathan
  3. 100W light bulb in a Party 7 can. Jonathan
  4. What's the setting... general use in an ordinary car? Are you prepared to open the bonnet and put things in and out, or do you need something slicker than that? Jonathan
  5. When we got to 50 I ordered 75. They've nearly all gone out now. I'll tell you exactly how far down the list we got in the next few days. I think there are already about 11 further requested. Who would like one or more? Jonathan
  6. Quoting the.vet: I've now measured the threaded shaft - 10.3mm outside diameter. Threads/inch appears to be about 14 but I'm not very good at measuring this. I'm now wondering if I've got a weird size or have I been sent the wrong nuts... Sorry for mixing old and new measurements but as a child of the 80's, I'm neither fluent in imperial or metric There's an app for that Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 16 Jan 2013 16:57:58
  7. This was discussed recently: should be in the archives. This might be what I remember. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 16 Jan 2013 15:08:05
  8. Quoting IanW: Here are some ideas of where to fit them.Excellent Jonathan
  9. Was this part of the scheme for providing newly-released prisoners with other criminals as mentors? Jonathan
  10. To those who asked for one on or before 9 August 2012 and haven't been in touch with me since 14 December 2012: It's now a month since I wrote in this thread saying they were available and asking for details. You've also had a personal BlatMail from me as a reminder. On Monday I'll reallocate them to someone else. Jonathan
  11. IF "own meter" = FALSE AND "own 7" = TRUE THEN DO buy_a_meter Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 11 Jan 2013 12:03:48
  12. There are some recommendations in the archives: 1 2 3 4 If you're going to have a look it would be very helpful if you could post something about current availability. Jonathan
  13. Other possible causes from the archives include shorting from damage to insulation of the feed wires as they enter the headlamp bracket, and from exposed feed wires to the switch. Jonathan
  14. I'm trying to work out the most efficient route to find the problem. How often does it happen? Is there anything that you suspect makes it blow? What work have you done on the car recently? Jonathan
  15. Some suggestions in this thread Jonathan
  16. :-) ... but I don't have a personal attachment to that one! Jonathan
  17. Except for the two batches to be collected this week all of the first round (requested up to 9 August 2012) are now with the Royal Mail. It will be good to see the first photo of one fitted somewhere on a 7... Jonathan
  18. The two most likely causes of what you have been describing are * a battery that doesn't have enough oomph to turn the starter fast enough * a bad wire or connection that has high resistance when the current is high and doesn't leave enough oomph etc... You've nearly but not quite eliminated the second by changing the connections. Did you note the voltage when it cranked with the other battery? (Those A h (amp hr) ratings describe the nominal battery capacity and aren't the most relevant property for your problem.) Jonathan
  19. Please can everyone who asked up to and including Andrew Payne on 10 November 2012 and who hasn't already paid please confirm by BlatMail, including their delivery address. Thanks Jonathan
  20. What Ian says. That 7.5V on the starter terminal was while cranking? Suggest you check the voltage across the battery while cranking under the same conditions. J
  21. It's unlikely to cause any damage, but imagine how you'd feel if it did. Fit the cigar lighter socket (as above), then disconnect the charger before starting. Jonathan
  22. Quoting bluenose: Why oh why do plumbers not fit isolation valves either side of central heating 2/3 way valves?Yes. And isolators for the hot and cold feeds into each room. Jonathan
  23. Snap! Which? are pretty good at responding to technical questions (guess how I know) so as a new subscriber you could test the testers by asking them about the drain tests. But I wouldn't expect it to introduce any bias between designs as a test of how those designs would perform in a given real-world use. Jonathan
