  1. Have you tried WD-40? Jonathan
  2. Before anyone else says it... in terms of bangs per buck... performance driving instruction! Jonathan
  3. Quoting TomB: Ive not noticed if Safari has a spell checker on the Macs at home I'll have to look.It uses the system-wide checker. Jonathan
  4. In theory you could do it by layering the unknown on the known two possibilities and seeing if it mixes. Or by seeing if it separates after being mixed with water. In practice I wouldn't rely on either of those if it were my brakes. Jonathan
  5. Good idea. I already get that from by browser (Safari on OS X). Who else does, using what? Jonathan
  6. Use the little speech balloon icon as the first action in replying. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 5 Mar 2013 20:35:34
  7. Was it this: Quoting ric: Have heard good things about both of the above, I've also used Vauxshop in Witney. Whilst not a Caterham specialist the owner, Steve, is/was an owner and runs a local area meeting Jonathan PS: Searching for "Whitney" would have missed this. Or, to put it another way: "Houston, we have a problem". :-)
  8. Can you swap the feeds from the sensors to see where the difference originates? Jonathan
  9. I've just measured one from the batch. The exterior length of the canister (excluding the bottom bracket) is 312 mm. Jonathan
  10. We're talking about these storage canisters. I'm happy to import some more but they come in batches of 25 and we're not up to that number yet. Cost of the first round came out as: Purchase and shipping for 75 was $747 on 11//11/2012, which I make £477 Import duty was £48.35 + £68.73 Envelope £0.24 Postage £2.20 I think that's £10.36 each to you. Jonathan PS: Any more photos of them in use?
  11. Won't acetone dissolve rather than degrease ABS? Jonathan
  12. There's lots on this in the archives. Search for "bighead Sikaflex". That also gets to threads which discuss adhesives other than Sikaflex. Jonathan
  13. Brake maintenance from Alcester Racing 7s, includes the piston trick. Jonathan
  14. What Paul and Charles say: have a good look at all the high current wires and connections. Clean and reconnect all those connections. Jonathan
  15. Please keep it coming. Earlier on you discussed the various ways of publishing your thoughts. I'd encourage you to put them on the web with free access, good proofreading and lots of pictures. You can then have informal discussions (like this one) on whatever forums you choose, but the more definitive bits can look good, as in traditional books. Two people who have done this well are Sheldon Brown (although I don't like the design) and Edward Tufte. The extra effort and cost of producing a traditional book made from dead trees doesn't seem worth it, unless you want to try and make money from it, which is very hard. 16. How long will it be before the asymmetry stops catching your eye? :-) Jonathan
  17. Quoting madmaninshed: The person who sold it to me on this site (I'm sure in good faith) e-mailed me before I bought it confirming that it would fit my Caterham providing I was using the Caterham flywheelBut it doesn't, from what you are saying. So you and he should rectify the situation by you returning the starter and him returning the money. Jonathan
  18. Thanks. Here's how it looks to me. 1 The word "standard" is getting in the way of sorting this out. Presumably you can define starters either by which other starter they replace or by the technical specification. There might be some meaning in "Compatible with what is originally supplied by Caterham" but that probably also changes over time as well. 2 "I purchased a new Powerlite geared starter motor from someone on this site a while back, which was sold to me to fit a duratec engine with standard Caterham flywheel." As above on the word "standard" although that is a tighter definition. But the wording you have used is ambiguous. Did he say it would fit or was it your inference that it would from the description. How has your subsequent conversation with that person gone? 3 I don't see anything inconsistent or wrong in the Powerlite literature and it explicitly warns about the many variations. But maybe I've missed the point. Please can you have another look and see what you think is wrong without depending on the word "standard". That would probably need something being wrong with the models it could replace or with the technical spec, see 1. Sorry to be so cold-blooded. Jonathan
  19. Is this the relevant document? Jonathan
  20. Thanks. Are there any experts who can say what "Ford Duratec engine with standard flywheel" with no reference to Caterhams means. Aren't there lots of different engines called "Duratec"? Jonathan
  21. Can you post a link to the documents from Powerlite that you think are wrong? Jonathan
  22. Are they asymmetric but don't have a recommended direction of rotation? If so they should only have a marking on the sidewall that says something like "inside" and "outside". Jonathan
  23. In Cheshire? 30 day outlook is cold. Put them on now. Jonathan
  24. *arrowup* *arrowup*I wouldn't attribute that problem to a temperature of 1 to 2 °C. At least one of the relevant bits (battery, cables and connections, starter relay) is U/S. Do you already know all about the relay click problem? Jonathan
