  1. A couple of years ago James Whiting was changing my cam belt. He prefers the old sort of water pump and put my original one back in rather than a new one after having a good look. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 14 Aug 2013 22:44:14
  2. *arrowup* *arrowup*Agreed. Anyone ever dropped their 7 on the floor? And will admit it? Jonathan
  3. ... while the Government and your ISP still allow it. ;-) Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 13 Aug 2013 08:34:25
  4. Lots of useful information in this thread, including links to previous threads. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 13 Aug 2013 07:57:23
  5. You have rights under the Sale of Goods Act that are independent of any warranty. You'd need to show that the goods weren't of satisfactory quality. There's an industry self-regulator called "Motor Codes": here are the FAQs for new cars. I'd also have a look at Honest John: there's often good advice there. Good luck Jonathan
  6. Sounds like you may have the answer already, but you can 'phone Caterham Parts if you're not sure. (It would be great if their website was as good as their 'phone advice.) Jonathan
  7. ... so far it's been cash only, but I'll think about it. ;-) Jonathan
  8. Thanks. That's about 11 requested and I expect the next batch will be 30 again. I'll order once we get near to that. Just waiting to hear from the last person for the current batch: you know who you are... Jonathan
  9. Would a passenger with a stethoscope help to locate the source? Jonathan
  10. *arrowup* *arrowup*That way (pulling the tail of the lap strap away from the buckle) works much better for me, see above. But it does seem to depend a lot on the exact set-up and preferences. You're welcome to look at mine in South Oxfordshire (or Abingdon airfield this Friday) and going to a gathering might be the best way to look at the options. Jonathan
  11. *arrowup* *arrowup*Agreed about the additives. So I'd reuse coolant only if it looked clean AND was new. Jonathan
  12. I've just been readjusting the heights of the pedals, and have fitted an oak block on the throttle pedal. I just couldn't get it right for the required contortions otherwise. To be tested tonight. Jonathan
  13. 12V? See Johnty Lyons' comments on voltage! Someone else had a similar problem recently where jumping didn't solve it although it did turn out to be a duff battery. That was probably because of poor contacts on the jump leads that couldn't carry enough current on cranking. Good luck Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 4 Aug 2013 09:35:18
  14. Disconnect, inspect and reconnect all relevant low and high current wiring including earths. What's the voltage at the battery at rest and while trying to start? Jonathan
  15. Rob's idea of using camping mats sounds good. They are often dense, and you could make the layers of different width to get a sort of chamfered cross section. Jonathan
  16. As above, two thick hard foam cushions, one under and one behind. In my experience you can get the leg position OK on the clutch for a 5' 2" driver with the seat right forward, the pedals in the closest position and a 50mm cushion. The driving position in the 7 is so different that it's hard for new drivers to get it right. It's not uncommon for them to be happier in a longer position after a few miles. Any chance of practicing somewhere private to make it easier to get started? Jonathan
  17. Can anyone write a brief spec of what the MFRU does? How many relays, load, other functions? Would something like this with a couple of wiring adaptors work? Thanks Jonathan
  18. Mole grips (as above) Cut a slot into the head with a Dremel or similar and use a straight screwdriver to unscrew Jonathan
  19. Not beaten yet. Apart from SM25T's solution... Can you tell us any more about the fitting, and post a photo, with the one that doesn't fit next to it? If it's threaded can you work out size it is by trying different bolts into it? Can you look upstream on the tube and see if there's another position that you could replace from? Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 30 Jul 2013 12:04:08
  20. Quoting Q102: ... what was the cats eye made out of 🤔That's the thought that crossed my mind: do you have a photo? Jonathan
  21. Quoting SKC: There is no separate sensor for the fan, it's controlled by the ECU water temp sensorHow can you test the fan comes on correctly with this set-up? Could you short the lead to the sensor or do you need to insert an appropriate resistor? Or is there a test mode? Thanks Jonathan
  22. Sorry: I don't know the details of the wiring on a Sigma 140. Someone who does will be along in a minute... Jonathan
  23. Yes, you need to sort this out. If the fan isn't cutting in by itself then short the wires to and from the sensor to check that the fan then starts and everything else is working. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 27 Jul 2013 17:07:21
