  1. Tak I'd never heard of either Wienerkalk or Vienna lime. Jonathan PS: It's hard to find anything on the Web about "Vienna Lime" without being reminded of zithers...
  2. Wienerkalk Product - Vienna Lime Vienna lime, 125 g shaker. Vienna chalk - like waxed. In older women, and artisans that old plaster and care products available in the highest esteem. It exerts its effect fantastic especially for metals (steel, stainless steel, silver, brass, etc.) and is actually indispensable in the home and workshop. Vienna lime is a mixture of about 25% kaolinite and about 75% crushed quartz. The exceptionally finely ground quartz and kaolinite fans the causes Schmitzol's Vienna lime works ultrafine polishing without significant material removal. He is so toxic that cat, child and dog might mistake him safely with milk powder. Withstand the test of time. Good 'things come to those who wait, and - even if it is made, and later when it is needed. But to develop a quasi horticultural ratio of "fostering and care" even to things has been revealed heavy. (At most collectors can do that yet.) Hardly decidable whether this is due to the things that do not earn more "care", or to the people who shy away from the time involved. We have resources to blunt the ravages of time, care and Hege funds for good things out of metal, wood, leather, porcelain and rubber. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 17 Oct 2013 13:48:08
  3. Would you consider using a mounted smartphone rather than a dedicated device? Jonathan
  4. Quoting Dr Slotter: ToothpasteAgreed: it's a really useful very mild abrasive. Jonathan
  5. Are they made of plastic or glass? Is the clouding on the surface or all the way through? Jonathan
  6. As above: soft cylindrical trekking bags. Jonathan
  7. ... and that's the end of that batch with, I think, no outstanding requests. I'll ask the supplier again about P-clamps. More photos of where you've put them, please. Jonathan
  8. The tyre manufacturers usually list what they consider to be compatible sizes of wheel and tyre. What are your tyres? Jonathan
  9. Where are you? I'll open the bidding with James Whiting, TW15 1JL. Jonathan
  10. Sounds good. I was admonished at my post-build check for leaving little sharp ends and have subsequently used a soldering iron to smooth them after cutting. Jonathan
  11. *arrowup*Yes, that would be better, but the sensor has to go somewhere. How about a manual dimmer switch? Unless someone can find a lamp holder with those eyelids... Jonathan
  12. Is there a tested electronic solution to vary the brightness with eg an input from the main light switch? Would two different LEDs per signal be the easiest way of doing this? Jonathan PS: My mother's Sunbeam Stiletto had eyelids on each light to make them less bright at night.
  13. Does the temperature rise after the fan starts? Have you checked that the fan is pushing air in the correct direction? Are you sure that there isn't air in the system? Jonathan
  14. Current MoT Inspection Manual, Section 1.7 does not instruct the tester to check that self-levelling is fitted, but does require testing if it is: Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted. That would explain the comment from the tester. However the VOSA regulations apply and it is therefore illegal to use a car on the road which has aftermarket HID headlamps without "headlamp cleaning and self-levelling". Jonathan AMENDED: Crossed with Pezky's post and makes the same point, I think. Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 10 Oct 2013 11:31:45
  15. Aftermarket HID headlamps: current UK regulations. Includes: Therefore a HID headlamp unit sold in the aftermarket should: 1. be type approved to ECE Regulation 98 as a component; 2. when fitted to the vehicle should enable ECE Regulation 48 to be complied with (although no government inspection will take place); and 3. comply with RVLR as far as "use" is concerned. In practice this means: 1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. - who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory. 2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam. 3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly in the same way as any other headlamp. 16. Previous discussion with solutions and suppliers, but some of it is about the warning lights in the instruments rather than the big ones in the dash: 1 2 3 4 Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 10 Oct 2013 09:44:30
  17. How about a solid wood shim that mimics the profile of the top plate on the manufacturer's jack? Jonathan
  18. *arrowup*Good point. When a supplier says "1 tonne" jack do they mean SWL of the weight of 1 tonne, or safe to jack a 1 tonne car? Thanks Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 9 Oct 2013 15:40:37
  19. This thread has the Ford part number. Jonathan
  20. Lots in the archives: low-entry (that one's crucial), light weight if you want to pick it up and take it somewhere, and fast action if saving 5s on jacking would improve your life. There's usually at least one in the Demon Tweeks catalogue that meets all of those for the 7, but if you want to lift 2.5 tonne of VW you'll have to sacrifice the light weight criterion. ... but if you go the Sealey site there are two that meet all the criteria: RJA2500 and RJAS2500. I hope the discount is as massive as the Tiguan... Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 9 Oct 2013 14:19:53
