  1. I'm not sure the rule is wrong, it just needs appropriate interpretation for a 7. We don't approve cars as suitable for use on public roads when driven by a specific driver. For the car to be safely driven by drivers of different sizes the seats (or pedals) need to be adjustable. The rule simply supports that. That doesn't take away any responsibility on the individual driver to ensure a position for safe control. And of course there are extreme sizes of people and parts of people for which there won't be safe solutions without modifications. Jonathan
  2. :-) Could you face getting some photos of the beam pattern with a traditional 7 set-up for comparison? Jonathan
  3. You're right: my error in copy and pasting, but mostly in not checking! I think it would be an unusual tester who failed a 7 on this. How about cars with adjustable pedal boxes... I think there used to be a Marcos that had that? Jonathan
  4. Yes, it's marked as a change in Section 6.2 of the Inspection Manual. 6.2 A 3 Check that the driver’s seat position can be adjusted forwards and backwards and secured in the selected positions.Reason for Rejection:Check that the driver’s seat position can be adjusted forwards and backwards and secured in the selected positions.Jonathan AMENDED: This is wrong, see below. 5. There's lots on this and related solutions in the archives. And there are warnings about getting the loads right on both the seat frame and the floor if you do, eg here and here. Jonathan
  6. Is it different on the uprated hubs? There's a thread titled "Front Hub Split Pin size". If they're the same that will help, if they're not the suggested tactical solution should still work... :-) Jonathan

  9. Do you need stronger pinions to do it that way? :-) Jonathan
  10. Quoting Q Catcher: OK, how do I upload a photo? You have to serve it somewhere else then link to that. Jonathan
  11. Quoting John Milner: There should be a way of putting 12V across the starter to check it spins. Not to be attempted unless you know what you are doing though.Agreed x2. I put that in my response and then deleted it until we know what sort of starter it is... Jonathan
  12. This thread gives sources and suggests that there is a difference in sagginess between the two products. I thought this thread might lead to us knowing if there is any difference between them, but it didn't. Jonathan
  13. Try online or a marine outfitter or a body shop. Where are you? Jonathan
  14. Battery voltage when it won't start?? Have you checked earths as well as feeds and cleaned the connections? What sort of starter is it? There are good experiences in the archives of getting starters and solenoids repaired. The advantage of that is that you'd get it tested and you might avoid finding the problem is something else... Jonathan

    Airlock ?

Too slow! But it was because I was thinking about fan switches... Jonathan

    Airlock ?

... I think there might be something in the archives on this. The behaviour of the fan might be the same problem but it might be something different. When were you last sure it was working OK? I'd check the sensor in a pan with a thermometer to avoid confusion. Jonathan
  17. If you can't find one this way there are some suggestions in the archives, including this and this. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 22 May 2014 10:13:26
  18. Can anyone do resistor colours in their head? Jonathan
  19. Thanks for the update. Did you measure the resistance of the bad fuse? Jonathan
  20. Quoting Barkalarr: Obviously, I can measure and drill the same holes as the old part into the new part, but it means I need to drill through the leather and the aluminium.... I'm a bit concerned the leather is going to tear, but I'm sure I can get round this.If you're worried about the drill twisting the leather you can make a hole with an awl, a punch or a soldering iron. Is there a hidden bit on which you can practise? Jonathan
  21. Did you adjust the cable this way? Could you post a photo of where the cable enters the pedal box, with the cover off? Jonathan
  22. From what others have written I think you need at least 9.5V while cranking. There are two issues: what the electronics need to be happy and what the voltage drop tells you about the state of the battery. Jonathan
  23. I think he's got it! :-) You can also make them appear as inline images if you want. Jonathan
  24. Do you need help with making the links work? Jonathan
