  1. Quoting David Lynch: Certainly wouldn't use then without side repeaters.Just what I was going to ask. Thanks Jonathan
  2. Two foot* crowbar Jonathan * Metric equivalents are available.
  3. Thanks. Yes, the second link in the first post is public... but I can only get to one photo. Jonathan
  4. I think you need a OneDrive account to see those photos. (There's also something about a single-use licence.) Jonathan
  5. *arrowup*Have you checked which way it's blowing... ? Jonathan
  6. ...as if it were the only time! ;-) Jonathan
  7. Quoting Dr Slotter: The point of jacking up the rear is to get the coolant that gets trapped at the bottom of the circuit (like in a u-bend) into another part of the circuit were it doesn't get trapped.Agreed, but isn't that "air"? And my best guess is that the difference between cars with a problem and cars without is the existence of a trap like that somewhere. But there is a theory in a recent thread that attributes the difference to the operator rather than the machine. Jonathan
  8. If you're having problems (some 7s do, some 7s don't) I'd recommend fitting a bleed t-piece at the top of the circuit (typically in a heater hose) and jacking the rear as high as possible when filling and bleeding. Jonathan
  9. What's the relative height of the radiator port where you're filling, the highest point of the circuit, any bleeding point and the expansion tank? Did you raise the rear when you first filled it? I can't see the difference between what you've observed with the trailer and starting it closer to home except: * One came after the another * There will have been some shaking in the trailer. Jonathan PS: Quoting TomGaval: Way quicker than my 195bhp Rover k S3.... that will be mostly due to the improved cooling system... :-)

    Top end speed?

*arrowup*No. Power needed to beat drag goes up as cube of speed. At high car speeds nearly all the marginal power goes on drag. What's the fastest recorded speed in a 7? Jonathan
  11. What colour are the wires? Jonathan
  12. The batch I ordered were: 11.45 mm internal bore throughout Base section 19 mm outside diameter, 4.7 mm height Upper section 14.21 mm outside diameter, 5.2mm height above base. Jonathan
  13. The batch I had made were: 11.45 mm internal bore throughout Base section 19 mm outside diameter, 4.7 mm height Upper section 14.21 mm outside diameter, 5.2mm height above base. For me the crucial dimension was the height of the upper, thinner section. My new Titon belts had thicker plates than the originals and I needed taller spacers to allow them to swivel. 5/16" = 7.94 mm 7/16" = 11.11 mm Jonathan
  14. Shorting the sender is useful for diagnosis. But if that does turn the fan on and you want to drive with the fan on then leaving it shorted there is as good as running a new wire and a lot easier. Jonathan
  15. Quoting simpy: Is it actually overheating? From memory the fan on my R500D does not come on till about 105 degrees is displayed on the stack dash. It never feels good to see that but never had any issues and I have also been told that its fine and working correctly.I don't know enough about R500s to comment. Has the fan ever cut in and now it doesn't? Shorting the sensor will throw some light on what's going on. I'd suggest a 15A fuse unless someone knows better. Don't forget the cable ties if you decide to fit a new feed. Jonathan
  16. I've tried the heater trick several times on cars other than the 7 when they overheated. The only effect I noticed was that I was even sweatier than usual when I took them in to have the head gasket fixed. But still worth trying. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 23 Aug 2014 20:58:43
  17. *arrowup*What was the sequence there? Jonathan
  18. *arrowup*Yes. You should add an inline fuse and can easily add a switch in the cockpit if you want to be really posh... Jonathan
  19. Recommendations for meters in the archives: let me know if you can't find them. You can test the fan by running a new feed directly to it. (Shorting the sensor does something similar and is quicker but assumes the fuse and wiring are OK.) Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 23 Aug 2014 20:42:27
  20. 1 Do you have a multimeter? 2 You need to localise the problem: Have you shorted the sensor to see if the problem is the sensor or the fan (or the wiring)? Just say if you don't understand. Jonathan
  21. I find it really hard to locate the sources of noises on the 7. I'd get someone else to listen and point (or swap seats) and widen the areas you're inspecting. Take the wheels off and have a good look at the discs. The handbrake cables often slap other bits, but not with the effect that you've described. Jonathan
  22. Thanks. If it was mine and the seat had been moving a bit I'd remove it and check that it hasn't opened up the other holes in the floor. Jonathan
