  1. The diameter of a Coke can is about 66mm. Jonathan
  2. Quoting NedK: Some poor sod is going to regret his sticky '9' key:-) Does that come from bitter experience? Jonathan
  3. *arrowup*Are you saying that "Persil Small and Mighty non-bio" is unsuitable*? Thanks Jonathan * Sorry!
  4. Quoting Titanium7: Big tip for the nyloc nut removal for the tillets. Hacksaw screwdriver slots into the bolt ends before trying to undo them. Removal and replacement of the nyloc nuts becomes simple. Is that because the bolt is free to turn, and doing it that way means you don't have to get to the head? Thanks Jonathan
  5. Yes, it's a detergent. Jonathan
  6. No. But please could we have a photo of you active on the left wing? :-) Jonathan PS: It's a bit early for Christmas in the Subject line.
  7. Andy's sump Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 31 Aug 2014 09:19:55
  8. Put the photos on a server! If you go on grinding the sump then at some point a hole will appear and will need application of five pound notes. How are you going to detect that before it happens? Point about engine mounts made above. Similarly how are you going to check their condition? Jonathan
  9. What's your ground clearance? Can you post a photo of the bit that makes contact? Jonathan
  10. That's: Hand wash Do not bleach Medium temperature iron Dryclean with PCE only. I think you'll be fine with: Remove stains Hand wash with detergent or machine wash on a wool setting with detergent. (Wool wash because it's gentle and low temperature). Jonathan
  11. If it's dirty then it's better to soak/ prewash than to use a different reagent or more intense washing conditions. Quoting Farmer_Terry: ... but I’ve not found that S&M n-b fades stuff that much...I think you'll find that everything turns to various shades of grey... :-) Jonathan
  12. Always happy to distinguish soap and detergent on request. Here are the international laundry symbols. Can you post an image of that label? Jonathan
  13. Quoting Pendennis: Without engine running, remove nose cone, unbolt and raise header tank, fill it halfway, you need to vent for a while maybe an hour, initially remove top rad plug, but when water comes out the rad is vented. Leave header tank cap off whilst tank is highest point of coolant circuit, occasionally squeeze top hose to rad, should be job done. Then reinstate tank but ultimately you should be looking at relocating tank to highest point of scuttle bulkhead. That trick with the expansion tank is clever. If you have to do this a lot you might be able to use something like a bike quick-release skewer to hold the tank in place... Jonathan
  14. Washing fabrics in general: 1 Most cleaning stuff is either a soap or a detergent. They're different. 2 Some detergents are "bio". Some aren't. "Bio" detergents can help in removing some dirt and need to be used below defined temperatures. 3 There are also softeners and bleaches. These can be separate or included in the primary product. 4 There's an international system of labelling that links clothes, cleaners and washing conditions. 5 Most people waste money by using too much cleaning product. 6 The most reliable source of information is Which? For your suit: 1 Is there a label, as above? Or any instructions from the supplier? 2 Do you need to remove any specific stains? If so it's nearly always best to do that before washing. 3 If your suit is coloured and you don't want it to fade you might be better with the "Colour" version of that Persil. 15. Thanks. I didn't want Phil relying on the powers of dichloromethane... then there not being any! Jonathan
  16. *arrowup*Was that using the old or the new formulation? Thanks Jonathan
  17. As above (but without the Christmas typo). It will either be shot or not. Fill it, charge it and test it before you rely on it. How smart is the charger... and what will you do to prevent it from happening again? Jonathan
  18. Quoting Smiffy7: of course..... RAKE!!! One of those moments you ask something which you later you realise you already knew!!Progress! ;-) Jonathan
  19. Difference in ride height between front and back. You also need to decide what clearance you want under the sump. Jonathan
  20. Quoting Smiffy69: Based on Grenpayne's feedback I might just do the ABA test ...... even if its only to satisfy my own curiousity. It's the destruction of the gearbox that is the worry though ...... I was thinking of a standard run, and a questionnaire on feel etc to be filled in after each run. Then you'd need a standard time between runs, during one of which (and you don't know which) the oil is changed by someone else. As above x2 it won't help with measuring wear. That would need a long study and probably lots of cars. Jonathan
  21. Go on, change back and see what happens... I've been looking forward to someone doing an ABA experiment. I can just about see how you could do the next transition blind... but it would need a friend to do the change and several hours in which to hide it from you. Jonathan
