  1. Quoting Jonathan Kay: My dip switch is a toggle switch which wouldn't be too hard to... invert.Or swop the leads on the terminals. Or would you prefer a push-push switch? Jonathan
  2. Nice diagram, Andrew. Mental models are crucial in ergonomics. The selector for the electric windows on my Espace controls Left-Null-Right. I still turn it the wrong way because my model is 10 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 2 o'clock. And theirs is 8 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 4 o'clock. The picture on it shows their view, but mental models beat instructional pictures. Jonathan

  8. Have you got any description of the ECU? Model number or make and serial number? If you can't get an answer could you do this experimentally? Connect them up as is and calculate the error factor? Possibly measure the engine speed with a stroboscope? Jonathan
  9. *arrowup*Is there anything like powder coating that would give a choice of colour but wouldn't be damaged by the wrench? Jonathan
  10. Good morning. I don't like to think of you suffering: Quoting john aston: Driving my 2007 Seven at night the other day I was reminded how much irritates; not only the random lighting of some switchesIs it possible to fit bulbs to the unilluminated switches?Quoting john aston: but the counter-intuitive 'dip switch',,,My dip switch is a toggle switch which wouldn't be too hard to... invert.Quoting john aston: ... and the stupidly bright shift lights.Factory or an added module?Quoting john aston: On my car and presumably lots of others there is a green light which stays on constantly at less than 3500rpm- the 'econometer' or whatever- which is stupidly bright...Remove that bulb?Quoting john aston: if not as bad as the main beam light , which is stronger than the bloody headlights and which I have now taped over as it was so distracting...The Imp and derivatives had little eyelids that you could roll over to dim the indicator. I wonder if they are available. Or weaker bulbs. Or variable dimming... Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 4 Sep 2014 08:11:55
  11. Quoting Roger Ford: Quoting Jonathan Kay: How about asking AUTOtechnik? I think I can see everything other than Black/Slate.Good find, but:I'm looking for small cut quantities, not 100m reels. That's why I said "asking" rather than "ordering from"... ;-) Jonathan
  12. How about asking AUTOtechnik? I think I can see everything other than Black/Slate. (Where do you use that?) Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 3 Sep 2014 22:07:04
  13. Quoting david oakes: Driving home late last night I noticed the oil pressure gauge was almost at zero. The oil temp also dropped to 40 degrees. How familiar are you with the car? Are you sure that this was new behaviour? I'd check the earth to the instruments and that the fuse is correctly seated. (I'd also check the connections to the three sensors and probably short each out and watch the gauges, but anything of that sort would need multiple simultaneous faults.) Jonathan
  14. Which model and what sort of dash? (It's unlikely to be a fault with two different gauges... Occam's razor.) Jonathan
  15. Did you find this thread? Jonathan
  16. :-) It was mostly because I felt so dumb! Jonathan
  17. Kojaycat might have them or make them for you. AMENDED: Doh! But it does help if we put something more informative on the link... Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 3 Sep 2014 14:20:45
  18. Quoting Roger Ford: Quoting poolec7: Painted & GrillThink that should read "Painted 7 Grill".Or "Painted 7 Grille". Unless the cooker from the BBQ thread is included. Jonathan
  19. You can do a quick check that is much better than the Mk1 Eyeball by jacking the car up, taping a pencil to something fixed such as an axle stand, crate or piece of furniture and adjusting it so that the tip is against the rim, and spinning the wheel. I'd guess that would spot variation of less than 1mm. (It's how bike wheels are trued.) Jonathan
  20. Nice work... you must be choked. Jonathan
  21. *arrowup*That's what I'd do too. I don't have access to the wiring diagrams until Wednesday night. Can anyone say whether that pattern of things that have failed points to a cause? Jonathan
  22. 1 Have a good rest. Remember how good you're going to feel when you've solved both problems. 2 Which model? Which instrument panel? Post a photo if you don't know how to describe it. 3 The most common cause of this sort of stuff is a bad earth connection. Has any work been done on it recently? 4 Do you have a multimeter already? Jonathan
  23. The diameter of a Coke can is about 66mm. Jonathan
  24. Quoting NedK: Some poor sod is going to regret his sticky '9' key:-) Does that come from bitter experience? Jonathan
