  1. Have you got an Assembly Guide already? Brake maintenance is covered on the Alcester Racing 7s site. Jonathan PS: I think you'd get more answers in the TechTalk Forum...
  2. How do you upload pictures on here? Do you want to post a link to them on a server or upload them to the site? Jonathan
  3. Do the lights work and does the ignition light come on? Then (as above) check ECU fuse. Jonathan
  4. Are you at home or do you need help on the road? Can you check battery voltage while cranking? How near to the fuel pump and wiring did you get while in the boot? Measure voltage on the feed at the pump (with the ignition on!). Jonathan
  5. What are you going to use it for and will it ever need to pass an emissions test? Jonathan
  6. I find this functionality frustrating. The simplest fix I can think of is to add another tab which means "All" so that you can see your own contributions. Jonathan
  7. Good outcome. So the stainless steel wasn't too rusty... :-) Jonathan
  8. Well done. Which alternator did you fit, please? Jonathan
  9. What elie says + measure voltage during cranking. Jonathan
  10. Well done... Phil. Please could we have a diagram to help the next victim? Jonathan
  11. What Duncan says: how much do you value the lower engine speed when cruising at 70 mph: 3,280 v 3,550 rpm? Jonathan
  12. Is it this thread or the closed one to which you refer in that one? Jonathan
  13. You'll be fine. The only issue is that they have low capacity compared to most car batteries, so don't overcharge. Jonathan
  14. Nothing special. Are you going to use a conditioning charger? Jonathan
  15. Any comparison photos, please? (Sorry if you've posted them already.) Jonathan PS: "Reflect"?
  16. If you are using a conditioner, the water does tend to evaporate much quicker. Wouldn't that be due to more more hydrolysis releasing hydrogen and oxygen rather than more evaporation? Jonathan
  17. No; they don't self level. They are simply a Bi-Xenon kit retro fitted inside a Cibie lens. The next bit took some time... I thought there had been some discussion somehwere that they had to be self-levelling. But the MoT manual only says that self-levelling has to work, not that it has to be fitted. Finally I found this DfT statement on aftermarket HIDs . It's dated 2010 but I can't tell if it still applies because it's not in the MoT manual nor the version of the Regulations that I can check. It says that you aren't allowed to retrofit Xenon HID lamps to conventional units and that Xenon HIDs must be self-levelling and have cleaning systems. Jonathan
  18. Confusion with manually-switched reversing light is a better theory than mine about high-intensity rear lights. but if you have a switch to turn on a reversing light then that has to have a tell tale, usually it was a switch that lit up. Panel with a switch and a light, finished in black crackle, and strategically positioned to penetrate your patella? Paddy Hopkirk spotlight on the back? ;-) Jonathan
  19. I think these are the relevant regulations. The instructions to MoT testers say it's no big deal, but not in those words. Jonathan
  20. I find plastic Pasteur pipetttes very convenient to top up cells and similar. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTAwWDUwMA==/z/Nt0AAOxykmZTOuB8/%24_12.JPG In the past I've also used water which gathers at the bottom of the freezer after de-frosting. I was told this is just as good, but not sure. Water that has evaporated will be fine unless it's been subsequently contaminated. If I had to I'd chip the ice off the top and sides rather than using the meltwater that's run across the internal surfaces. Jonathan
  21. - is the randomness of the ignition light to be expected with a failed alternator No, I would typically expect the light to go on as usual but then stay on. But there may be faults in the alternator's electronics pack that could cause this. What was the engine speed when you saw that voltage? I'd do the following before concluding the fault lies in the alternator: Check alternator belt. Check alternator spins nicely with the belt loose. Visual inspection and wiggle of wires and earths. With a charged battery connected (could be jumped) measure the battery voltage at rest, during cranking and at 3,000 rpm. With a charged battery connected check what the ignition light does ditto. Jonathan
  22. When I first got my Seven I also found the headlights appalling. I just didn't feel safe driving by them. I fitted a pair of these (with high intensity bulbs - which made very little difference on their own) and they have absolutely transformed night driving for me. As good as, if not better than, most other modern (non-HID) headlights on other cars. Cibie 7 Inch E Approved Headlight Conversions With Side Light H4 Any modifications needed to shell or connector or wiring with these? Thanks Jonathan
