  1. This has come up again in another thread. Any new evidence or opinions on the benefits in practice? Jonathan
  2. :-) I think that's the manufacturer's site: our discussion is here. I'm still totally unconvinced: I just don't think the benefit has been shown in practice for our sorts of engine in our sorts of use. But I'm open to persuasion. I'll go and bounce the other thread. Jonathan
  3. IIRC, when I first used Comma Xstream (in 2008), it was based on propylene glycol rather than ethylene glycol. I'm surprised by that: can you remember the type (G30, G48 etc)? It might be a classic with a 200bhp track day screamer for all I know... In which case the benefits of Evans waterless coolant would be... ? Jonathan
  4. And the absence of any evidence of benefit for a K series engine in normal use? Jonathan
  5. Comma XStream G30 or equivalent. The last time I looked the cheapest source was Amazon UK. Jonathan PS: AFAIK colours aren't consistent across suppliers and products.
  6. Does anyone know if George Polley has any E marked Yokohama AO21's left?? I bought a set from them just before Christmas: info@polleymotorsport.co.uk Jonathan
  7. On balance I'd make all the forums members-only, with carefully exposed tasters from TechTalk and the Technical Guides and the special offers to encourage people to join. I don't know enough about events to know which would be better. Jonathan
  8. :-) What are you going to do until July? Jonathan (14" and about to fit A021Rs)
  9. I prefer not to use glossy emoticons, for me the whole point and the pleasure was the improvisation from ASCII characters. But that's trivial compared to my dislike of thumbs-down or Dislike buttons. They encourage lazy polarisation when the least you should do is give a reason. Thumbs-up and Like are excellent sentiments. Jonathan
  10. Does it work if you're south of the river late at night? Jonathan
  11. There are/ were pictures of a fully ducted system in the archives. Was it from Uncle Fester? Jonathan
  12. Thanks for the update. Does any 7 have a fuel pressure sensor that controls the pump? Jonathan
  13. Is it sealed or the sort you can top up? Any possibility you didn't have a good connection with the second charger? You can save a lot of time and occasionally some money with a multimeter: current recommendation. (Guesses aren't worth much without the voltages but I'd guess your battery is shot.) Jonathan
  14. Welcome Any views on which tyres you'd like? What ground clearance are you aiming for? Very low? Jonathan
  15. When I said "Goriilla" I meant "Tiger". Doh! Jonathan
  16. The most common name is Sikaflex (beware: multiple varieties) but there are recent recommendations for others, including one species of Gorilla. I have a feeling that the preparation might be more important than the adhesive. I used Sikaflex 221 and would do the same again. Jonathan
  17. I agree with your thinking. Start with a good look at and wiggle with all the wiring in the engine bay. Then, one at a time, for each connector in anything that looks like it might be relevant to the ECU: Wiggle and gently pull each wire that goes into the connector and see if one is loose. Disconnect the two halves of the connector. Soak the whole thing in WD-40. (It's not good for long-term protection but it's great for short-term water displacement.) Reconnect. Test after each one: is the engine still running, has the problem gone away? You won't do any harm with this. Jonathan
  18. Do you particularly want the type that Caterham supply? Jonathan
  19. Given that most people take pride in having assembled their car themselves it seems odd to then hand it over to somone else to service it. I can't comment on a the specifics of a 140 cambelt change but oil changes, brake fluid, filters and the inspections that make up the rest of any service aren't exactly rocket science and you have the satisfaction and confidence of knowing what was done. Read up on what the service actually consists of maybe think about having a go yourself. I don't have much mechanical background but I built my 7. Changing the cam belt (mine's a K series) is precisely one step too far for me. It needs special tools, I won't do it that often, I won't be sure I've got it right, and it will be expensive if I get it wrong. I've got the manuals and I've watched the video. It's just the Eastwood principle. What would help me take that extra step? A buddy standing next to me. Jonathan
  20. Keep them coming. Ian: I'm happy with the supplier's unit costs but we're negotiating the shipping rates from China. More soon. Jonathan
  21. ... do you have any tool tubes left from the bulk buy? Yes, please add a request to that Bulk Buy thread, Jonathan
