  1. Is this the electric sort on the gearbox or on a driveshaft? Have you checked the relevant fuse? Jonathan
  2. You're not alone, Steve, every time I see it! Jonathan
  3. It depends... what are you reading? ;-) Jonathan
  4. Here's what I was told when I asked! Jonathan
  5. Perhaps someone who already has an S-Max could do a double blind test... ;-) Jonathan
  6. Anyone? Or any comments on the price? Thanks Jonathan
  7. The orange light has checked out as oil pressure warning light That's a relief. Honestly! Yes, looks like the feed is from Fuse 2. Does the heater fan come on when asked to? Paul: Would it be a good idea to make a dummy direct "Brown/ Yellow" connection as a test? Jonathan
  8. 3) Wiring on the starter motor, I have a black lead attached to the terminal closest to the chassis which has a terminal ring and rubber boot on the other end. Any ideas where is meant to go. looking at it there are 2 brown leads in the car wiring harness attached to the chassis and the red power lead from the battery that is meant to attach to this terminal of the starter motor, am i correct ? should i disregard the current attached lead? Commonly used wiring colours. That thick black lead is the earth lead that takes the high current from the starter. It needs to go to the chassis or the battery earth terminal. Jonathan
  9. I've given the final numbers to the supplier and am waiting for a date. Sorry for the delay, and thanks for the reminders. Jonathan
  10. 1) When trying to fit the rear calliper carriers there is about a 6mm gap between the carriers and the 'ears' I have tightened up the hub nut but still there is a gap (same on both sides). The diveshafts seem to be fitted correctly but still no joy. Does anyone have any ideas? Does yours need spacers between the callipers and the ears? Component 2 in Figure 131 in the Assembly Guide. Jonathan
  11. Garth: Which colour bags, please? Jonathan
  12. Lower mass and lower self-discharge rate. Jonathan PS: I don't think that's contrary, yet. :-)
  13. Thanks. I'm intrigued by the reticence, including mine, in switching to these. Mostly neophobia? Jonathan
  14. There's another thread where a member is selling a Skyrich HJX14. That includes some discussion of cranking current and high-compression engines. But that Skyrich has a CCA of 240 A. My PVR25 is probably a typical small lead-based battery for a 7 and has a CCA of 220 A. Is there any accepted view or personal experience of a systematic difference in cranking current between lithium-based and lead-based car or bike batteries? Thanks Jonathan
  15. Clayton "Climate Control". Jonathan
  16. Have you tried Rimmer Bros? I'd take a photo with a ruler next to the seal and ask them what they've got. Jonathan
  17. Friend drilled a hole through the long bolt and attached a very small padlock as the bolt just poked through the nut inside the boot That's clever. With the right lock or bit of chain you could also use that to secure the steering wheel. Jonathan
  18. The simplest (other than cable ties) might be a U bolt: http://www.multifixsupplycompany.com/images/ww/product/merlin/pp05296-mn.jpg but I'd like a split clamping bracket with half of the tube section recessed in each piece, and a flat face that sits against the lamp. Aluminium or 3D printed. Jonathan
  19. Disconnect the oil pressure sender and test again. Jonathan
  20. ... and the ignition light is still on before starting and goes off immediately after starting? Jonathan
  21. It's usually described as just enough to roll a can of Coke underneath... which was 66 mm the last time I checked. From memory the most commonly quoted value for road 7s is 80 mm. Jonathan
  22. Here's how I did mine, copying a photo which was in the archives.: Find a nice place for the jack (mine's a factory scissor jack but this should work with others) on the horizontal section of aluminium in front of the heater. Drill through the base plate of the jack. Drill through the aluminium section. Put rubber well nuts in the section from above, and machine screws down through the holes in the jack into those nuts.Jonathan
  23. What Paul says. Still the same alternator as Post #7... do you have a wiring diagram for it? Jonathan
